I remember being in middle school and wanting to change many things in myself. I was shy, timid to speak in front of a group and self-conscious. Even as far back as middle school I was passionate about psychology and self-improvement. I used to make lists of characteristics I want to improve in myself, set goals and work hard to achieve them. I knew my strengths, but I was also aware of my weaknesses. To this day I make similar lists of areas I want to improve and strive hard to achieve them.

Self-growth and self-love takes time and effort. They don’t just happen. It’s about tackling one shortcoming at a time, shedding tears, finding courage and trying over and over until you achieve your goal. It may not be at 100% but as long as you keep trying you will improve. Even if you make 10% improvement it’s better than no improvement

One of the biggest issues facing our youth and even adults is a lack of self- love. Many people hate who they are which leads to depression, anxiety and substance abuse.

Here are a few suggestions:

1. You need to look within and be completely honest with your shortcomings and strengths.

2. Work on one trait at a time

3. Acknowledge your effort and progress

4. Seek support

5. Pray for guidance

If this is your daily habit imagine how you will improve exponentially each year. Start today to make that list and share a few areas you would like to improve.
