The brothers arent real, correct, but the idealization of incest and fetishizing it the way you people do is real and does real harm. It's illegal for a reason. People are jailed for a reason. When you create an echochamber that validates your beliefs it normalizes a dangerous concept. This creates victims. — Real life victims.
Pedophiles and zoophiles are an excellent example of this. Incestuosophiliacs, or inbreeders, are not excempt. All three are disgusting. All three are illegal. All three create victims that harm people.
All fiction has a base in reality. This includes your "fictional incest". Seek therapy, there is something deeply, biologically wrong with you. — This isn't an insult, this is a fact. Properly developed humans are repulsed by incest by concept alone. The fact that you aren't is a sign you developed incorrectly.
hello anon! What a lovely opportunity to clear up some of these allegations. Thanks/gen
You're absolutely right. Real life incest is vile, cruel and downright inhumane. The harm this causes the victims is inexcusable, and I can't think of anyone in the wincest fandom who thinks otherwise. I DO NOT CONDONE IRL INCEST AND NOR DOES THE WINCEST FANDOM. While the topic of the debate has shifted from fandom etiquette to the morality of shipping, I'll still address it.
You say all fiction has a base in reality. This would mean shows like Hannibal are wrong for romanticizing cannibalism, House MD. For condoning malpractice, marvel movies for romanticizing violence. I think it's safe to say that, as a consumer of media, the burden of separating reality from fiction is YOURS. The wincest fandom is one of the best examples of that. It's less of a kink thing (although I won't deny that also exists) but more of an analysis of the story and subtext. This is directly addressed in the show. You can't act like this is some sort of an underground cult of a few people that watch supernatural when there are 36k+ fics on ao3 about it. You can assume most of these people aren't pedophiles/incestuouphilliacs. There's worse things to inspire evil people. (Also, I sense that your suggestion for me getting help is somewhat genuine, but I assure you, I'm good. While I don't owe anyone an explanation about my family, I'll take one for the team and say I have an older brother and a younger sister. I love them both dearly, the most in the world (again, don't expect others to, but I'll tell you: me and my siblings have shared a lot of trauma that has bonded us inseparable), but not like how I think Sam and Dean love eachother. See, because I can separate FICTION fron my reality. If I can do it, so can a lot of other people.) Bottom line: it doesn't happen that often, and even if it does, wincesties aren't the ones perpetuating it.
How do you stomach a show like supernatural if you're so averse to topics like fictional incest? Mary Winchester kissed her father. Sam and Dean are often confused as a gay couple (and more than that, are PARALLELED by couples in the show, you can check out my blog for receipts but if not js tell me I'll link them). Crowley and Rowena have sexually charged scenes. Zachariah calls the brothers erotically codependent. None of us are deluded enough to think our ship is canon, of course, but there's enough incestual subtext around that "properly developed humans" such as yourself should be disgusted by the show and it's themes as a whole. Moreover, you shouldn't be surprised a show about "family above all else" (already, not healthy) would discuss incest. Once again, it's fictional, and (this is key) it's a theme of the show itself.
That's not the point. None of this is the point. You're welcome to not ship out ship, you're welcome to tell all your friends and hate in the privacy of dms, but do not tell people to kill themselves. That doesn't grant you any moral high ground. And, the wincest fandom was the earliest fandom supernatural had, which at least grants us the right to exist, as we were here first. That was the original point of the post, which I fear was lost during the debate.
I was one of the ones. I saw thor x Loki and I balked, because they're adopted siblings, they grew up together!! There's certain things I don't enjoy (books like Haunting Adeline, It ends with us, other incest ships) but I understand that, at some level, these things are fiction, and in fiction, you're allowed to explore topics you wouldn't be able to otherwise. I would never tell a person to hang themselves or to slit their wrists to see bone because of a KINK of all things. The original post was made because a lot of my mutuals were being harassed by people from the supernatural fandom, which is bizarre, since if anything, theyre the ones watching the Incest Show and complaining about how it has incest.
