[so apparently my bf got me Les Mis tickets for Valentine’s Day bc he’s literally the best. But also he knows little to zero amount of the plot so it’s gonna be really fun watching him get invested in characters about to die.

Also I was going on a spoiler-free rant about the musical vs the book vs the movie, and he literally stopped me and straightup said the sentence “what is an Eponine”

It had been a few days since Eponine’s last meal, and as she lay collapsed, she struggled to pull her dizzy view into focus. “ ‘m trying” she mumbled to the voice echoing hazily in her ears.

“It’s alright.” Combeferre reassured, “It isn’t far, just a few blocks. It should be warm too.” He was admittedly relieved that she had accepted his help, unsure what he could have done otherwise - he couldn’t have left her in the cold. It wasn’t right.

Together, they shuffled along down the street, trying to be mindful of ice patches. As they walked, thoughts buzzed in Eponine’s mind. Marius had been the only person to extend any kindness towards her. But here comes this other man, who offers shelter, a warm meal, his friendship without a thought. Perhaps it was a student trait. Or perhaps Marius just attracted kind people. She couldn’t help the rough chuckle that escaped her lungs. How had Marius ended up finding her then? She was certainly no ray of sunshine.

She took the man— Combeferre’s arm. “Thank you m’sieur”

Montparnasse allowed the impact, such that it was, to throw him onto his back with a teasing grin. His hands clasped over his heart. “You wound me with your sarcasm,” He teased. Then he stretched out one arm towards her, just brushing her sleeve with his fingertips. The curve of his mouth said he was still playing, but his eyes were more serious, almost plaintive. “Lay with me? I might be convinced to pretend to try, then.”

And you have to at least try to share the blanket.” Eponine tried to inject a mocking tone, but her actions betrayed her tongue. She scooted under the covers next to the lanky man, grasping at the hand playing with her frayed sleeve.

“Well, Eponine… Let’s get you out of the cold, alright?” Combeferre offered, usually he would have headed for the Musain, but he doubted it was still open - and even though he was sure that Musichetta wouldn’t mind him using their usual room at such an hour; he knew for a fact that there would be no chance he could obtain food for her there; so instead he settled to offer his apartment as an option. At least there he could guarantee she would be warm, safe, and he would be able to offer her something warm to eat. “My apartment isn’t far - I can get you something to eat and you can rest a while… Are you okay to walk?” He offered his arm as a form of support, though unsure if she would take it.

Her limbs, still heavy with cold and hunger, faltered as she took a hesitant half-step back. But, he was Marius’ friend after all... and the thought of food was almost irresistible. Still, she hesitated. “I shouldn’t impose...”
