Lucifer may not understand all of existence, but that doesn’t stop him from digesting it when he feels like it matters.
When he sees his brothers or his human in love with something, he takes note that this is something important to them.
When he came out into the living room to see you watching your favorite show, he didn’t see or understand what happened on the screen, he just saw how your eyes lit up before you knew he was in the room. How you glowed for a moment of an instance from the warmth and excitement building inside you.
So when you registered him standing there, he passively just made sure to let you know that it wasn’t something to his tastes, less you begin trying to show him the series from the beginning or infodump to him - While he loves you, he struggles to lend his time even if it’s to make his loved ones feel special. It’s a lesson he learned with Levi, who would keep his attention indefinitely if he ever showed the slightest tinge of interest in one of his hobbies or interests.
He needs to be able to interact and consume media at his own pace.
Watching the screen, he pays attention to how your eyes light up or darken with different characters, making mental note of the differences in your responses, the key features of the characters, wanting to make sure he doesn’t miss anything.
And it’s as he’s watching this to understand a part of you better that he feels you normalize from his intrusion. As you normalize and invite him to watch from the beginning, he moves to sit down to let you know that he’s interested in watching this, but not from the beginning. He wants to listen to you for as long as he can.
He loves these little moments with you. How when you light up and he asks a question, you pause the show to tell him more and then resume the show. How you feel so much for something that just doesn’t catch his interest - It’s through your love of this show that he finds an appreciation for the characters and setting. How things that seem so mundane to him could be so special to you.. Maybe there WAS more to it than he thought at first glance.
He glances at his watch and sighs. He lost himself a little in this time with you.
He stands up, thanking you for your time, mentioning that he’s got paperwork he must do, but that he was very happy getting to share this time with you.
“I hope that you enjoy the rest of your show. Thank you for sharing with me. I hope that..” He tries to recall the character that made you light up the most. “[Character] is able to achieve their goal.”
He leaves feeling a little fuller for the experience.
You can’t help but laugh because, [Character] is not a good person.
