I’d like to talk about Steven’s relationship with the cool kids in the new episode just a bit. First of all, when he tells them that he thinks he might be his mom, they don’t just disregard it as a kid being weird. They believe him, as is evident in Buck and later Sour Cream mentioning it both to Steven and the other gems. When they defend him to the gems, they acknowledge that the work they’re doing is important, but that Steven’s happiness and innocence are too. They’re really the only people in the show that get on Steven’s level and treat him as a complete equal, listening to him and valuing his decisions, time, and unique personality. I’ve honestly never seen a better example of teenagers being friends with a younger kid in such a healthy and meaningful way, in any form of media.
