summary: kingo & shang-chi finally have a conversation about their im(mortality).
a/n: okay wait first off, the languages from here that i speak are hindi and english. i do not at all know mandarin so if any of the words & translations are wrong, please lmk!! also the ending is a little weird so like im sorry i literally cannot write those. anyway ohmygod guys iâm scared that this isnât good at all but hereâs my contribution to our kingoshangchi hyper-fixation <33 i know i suck at writing but take it as it is please just like lie and tell me its okay or sumnđđŸ itâs short btw idk just like take it guys. also thanks to bucky for like helping me out sm <33
setting: before shang-chi & the legend of the ten rings takes place and the second part is after it does.
warning/s: possibly ooc?? mentions of blood, talk of future loss/death, immortal/mortal trope, angst then fluff so hurt/comfort i think. some words are in hindi and mandarin so look for translations at the end !! gay as hell
worth it (kingo sunen x xu shang chi)
âwhatâs gonna happen when i eventually die?â shang-chi asked out of nowhere, his voice low as he feared the answer.
kingoâs heart ached at the question and his boyfriendâs wobbly voice. his heartbeat went up and the xu boy felt it from his place on the formerâs chest. that was the one question that he prayed shang-chi never asked, the one question he wouldnât â couldnât answer right away.
the star exhaled shakily and avoided shang-chiâs gaze, âi donât..â he trailed off when he heard his voice crack. âi donât like thinking about that,â he quickly breathed out.
âbut you have thought about it?â
âshang-chi, do we really have toââ
âyeah! i mean, we have to talk about it someday, kingo!â shang-chi exclaimed as he picked up his head from his partnerâs muscular chest and sat up a little, resting his weight on his elbows. now his eyes were fixated directly on kingo. âi know we both have been putting off having this conversation but i just.. i canât do this anymore.â he shook his head. âplease, letâs just talk about it.â
âwhat is there to talk about, jaanemann?â kingo sighed and rubbed his eyes with the hand that wasnât still around shang-chiâs waist.
âmy inevitable death, Ă i,â shang-chi leaned his head forward, prompting the man to look at him. âyou know that eventually youâre gonna lose me. what, then?â
âwhere are you planning to go with this?â kingo flailed his hand.
âi just feel like..â shang-chi trailed off, tearing up at the thought. âi.. you deserve to be with someone that can be by your side till the end of time. iâll eventually die and you donât deserve to go through that pain, i..â he stopped to blink away his tears and clear his throat. âi donât think iâm worth it. you shouldnât go through all that pain just because of me.â
kingo was, to put it lightly, honestly, flabbergasted. he simply couldnât comprehend what his boyfriend was saying.
âwhat do you mean youâre ânot worth itâ?â kingo croaked out. both the menâs eyesights were blurred by their tears. there were too many to blink away so they both let a few fall, simultaneously moving forward to wipe the oppositeâs away.
kingo sat up too, now, forcing shang-chi to sit up properly as well. he pulled him forward so that their knees were touching and let his hand rest on his waist and the other lightly cupped his wet cheek.
âshang-chi, i need you to know that when i tell you youâre the love of my life, i mean it. seriously, i mean, i actually canât imagine loving someone this way.â kingo sniffed out. shang-chiâs lips turned into a pout as he tried not to cry even more.
âlook, i canât imagine losing you. i know that one day i will. but that doesnât mean iâm gonna let you go right now just because of that. iâd rather have spent, even, just half a century with you than a lifetime with anyone else, okay? because i think youâre absolutely worth it.â kingo smiled softly at the shorter man prodding him to return it. âoh, what the hell? why did i just say that like iâm in that damned shampoo ad?â when shang-chi did giggle in acknowledgment of his attempt to make him laugh, kingo felt a burden get lifted off his chest.
âitâs okay that we wonât get to spend forever together. but right now? iâll take all the time with you that i can.â
shang-chi sniffed, wiping his tears away with the back of his hand and enveloping the love of his life in a tight embrace. they both fell back into the mattress, chuckling softly. shang-chi kissed kingoâs cheek quickly and went back to resting his head on his chest. âi love you.â
âso.. weâre okay, right?â kingo carefully checked. shang-chi, whose eyes were still closed as he took in how blessed he was that he had this lovely man as his significant other, nodded, âmore than.â
they were, in fact, not okay. not at the moment, at least.
âtu kitna bada chutiya hain, yaar,â kingo cussed under his breath, grabbing a wet cotton swab and dabbing the huge cut that was on shang-chiâs face with it.
his boyfriend had just returned to their apartment after a long, long week of facing his past. his dad, particularly. he was all injured but he headed straight for their home to meet kingo and the first thing kingo did was pull him in the bathroom to patch him up and also, shout at him.
ârĂșguÇ nÇ bĂč huĂŹ shuĆ yÄ«ngyÇ, nĂ me,â shang-chi retorted. kingo huffed in annoyance, throwing out the now dirty swab. âyou are an idiot, i said.â he spat and shang-chi tutted.
âbadass,â kingo whispered, making him smile.
âwhat i donât get isâ why didnât you justâ i donât know? call me? your boyfriend who is also a superhero? you know i couldâve helped!â
âi needed toââ hiss! ââdo that on my own. plus, you were shooting ikarisâ climax scene. iâve been waiting for so long for that goddamned movie â how could i interrupt?â the man in the red suit grinned at his boyfriend in hopes of calming him down.
it worked like a charm, because kingo was now chuckling. shang-chiâs grin turned into a soft smile of admiration. âiâm fine, bÇobĂši. really. donât worry. but hey! look! iâm a superhero too, now!â he jumped off his place on their bathroom counter and grabbed both of kingoâs shoulders. âand i have a big, big surprise for you,â
the actorâs ears perked up at that and he infamously raised his eyebrow, but continued packing the first aid kit heâd finished up with. âwhat is it? you bring me your momâs recipe book?â he chuckled.
âi doubt that. you told me that sheâ oh! okay, weâre goingââ kingo stammered as shang-chi dragged him out of their bathroom. he pulled kingo to sit down with him on their king-sized bed which bounced and creaked under their weight.
âokay, so. the rings, right?â shang-chi pointed to where they sat next to them. kingo nodded, inquisitive. âi hadnât told you about their powers entirely because i wasnât sure, either. but now i know.â
âthey make their user strong. so, i have super-strength when i use them, right? but they give me another ability, too,â shang-chi breathed out quickly, excited to tell kingo.
âthey made my father immortal. and now that i have them,â he trailed off with a grin, hoping kingo would catch on. âyou can be immortal too?â kingo exclaimed in question and grabbed shang-chiâs collars. and when he rapidly nodded, kingo was sure there could not be a happier man on the planet.
many, many tearful kisses and hugs later, kingo whispered, âthis meansâ we can have our happily ever after?â
âwe can have our happily ever after, qÄ«n'Ă i de.â
