A few details about the meter, because it's my favorite part of poetry. The three stanzas are called "Octavas Reales" (Royal Octaves). They are a type of eight-line stanza written in hendecasyllables with the rhyme scheme ABABABCC (in English, only consonant rhyme exists, but in Spanish, you can use assonance if the lines end their last syllable with the same vowel, or consonance if the last syllables have the same vowel and consonants; generally, the latter is more commonly used in formal poetry, while assonance is more common in popular poetry such as medieval ballads).

I've always found this stanza a bit too ornate for my taste and difficult to read in such a long epic poem (for English readers, imagine Pope's Odyssey but with eight rhyming lines instead of just two!), but its musicality, its rhyme, is perfect for an invocation to the Muse. It's unique.
This is the same stanza that Ludovico Ariosto used to write his Orlando Furioso, and in Spanish, Alonso de Ercilla wrote La Araucana, which narrates the conquest of Chile, in the same way. Many Spanish translators before the 20th century also used this stanza to adapt Greco-Latin epic poems into Spanish.

I've finally finished the drawings for the first section of the meme so I guess this is a good time to post a teaser for it (this is an older sketch WIP, since I didn't want it to look like it's finished yet) It's probably gonna take quite a while to render the other sections (especially the walk cycle because of the backgrounds!)
Okay. For my money, the entire thesis of Chris Nolanâs 2026 film The Odyssey is that society chokes and sputters and dies when we abuse, ignore, or violate social norms like the laws of hospitality. That is not really what The Odyssey (the book/poem) is about, but I can clearly see why in the horror that is the 2020s, someone could read The Odyssey and go oh my god thatâs a lot of bad dropping in. Thatâs a lot of bad visits. Thatâs a clear vision of how the loss of social norms and cohesion fucks you up and how war, literal, brutal war, is a terrible wound that destroys your humanity and your understanding of what civilization and society is. I donât know that the iteration of Greek society that ultimately birthed the poem would agree with Nolanâs take, but I think this movie is quite ideologically coherent, that Nolan knew exactly what he was trying to say with each and every adaptational change, and I think he wasnât nuts for using one of the most famous classical western civilization works as a way to make that argument.
The Oddessy (2026) having its central theme being that the moment society allows justification of an immoral action that violets civic, moral and ethical law, even if it reaches the outcome needed to achieve a goal- there is no ability for that society to take back that justification- to its future detrament. The symbolism of the Trojan Horse also burning, indicated to Odysseus that while he won the battle, he sacrificed the rest of the world by making it okay to cross a line.

Swastikas have been a part of art for thousands of years before even the concept of whiteness was even a thing, it was especially prevalent in Ancient Greek art so of course Iâd include it in a design bc I was inspired by that art movement. But bc ppl want to argue in bad faith and accuse me of acting in bad faith, theyâre accusing a brown woman of having some dastardly scheme to have Nazi dog whistles in her art bc⊠well they donât like my mythology takes lol
