Tough plastics broken down by backyard fungi in 140 days, experiment finds

Two types of fungi commonly found in backyards can be used to break down one of the world's most stubborn plastics — and scientists say this discovery could be a significant step in addressing the recycling crisis.

It took 90 days for the fungi to degrade 27 per cent of the plastic tested, and about 140 days to completely break it down, after the samples were exposed to ultraviolet rays or heat.

Chemical engineering professor Ali Abbas, who supervised the research team, said the findings were significant.

“It’s the highest degradation rate reported in the literature that we know in the world,” the professor said.

Like literally the only reason we didn’t go extinct is because we are aggressively social creatures who community organized and helped each other when faced with disasters that drove other species over the brink.

The amount of people in the notes who are saying "why not do both" ie unironically ignoring the words of disabled people and the fact that we've said that people explicitly use language policing as an excuse to not do any further activism that would make a much bigger difference to our lives than if one person on the internet didn't call another stupid is WILD.

Just like, keep patting yourselves on the back for being woke and not do fuck all else, why don't you? Disabled people aren't your prop.
