Heaven Is Not Fit to Hold Us - a post-canon Dark Urge/Gortash story

The Netherbrain is defeated, Baldur's Gate is burning, and Ta'av is reeling in the aftermath. With her last link to her past now severed, she faces an impossible choice: does she try to be the hero that others seem to think she is, or does she defy fate and the gods in pursuit of her heart's desire? (Rating: Explicit)

Chapter 7: devil gonna follow me e'ere I go (5k)

The dining room had become her war room. The table was long enough for Ta’av to spread her notes and open books across its surface, and the room was big enough that she could pace in circles whenever she pleased. At the moment, she sat with her legs curled underneath her and her lyre in her lap. In front of her lay an unfurled scroll, the glyphs shimmering with the latent potential of a sending spell. She mouthed the words silently, her fingers skimming over the strings of her lyre as she did so. When she was finally satisfied that her memory would not betray her, she carefully rolled up the scroll and placed it to the side. She breathed deeply into her belly and plucked the first chord. The melody she sang was simple, almost spoken, but the notes lingered in the air. The spell wove itself around her, and when it was complete, she felt it waiting to catch her words. “Hello, Hope,” she said quietly. “I'd like to come for a visit, to ask for a favor and use your library. Is that alright with you?” She paused, sensing the spell was almost at its limit. “Thank you.” The spell shrank, condensing around her until it shot away into the air. Ta'av imagined it had become a tiny bird, winging its way in between the planes until it found its target and dove like a hawk. Nothing found her in return. The silence stretched on so long that she thought it was lost. Finally, a breathless, ebullient voice burst into her mind.

A short comic about Ro visiting Gortash's home in the Upper City during Act III.

I'm convinced the only reason we can't access the Upper City in-game is because it was never finished, not because of the Brain.

I also have a headcanon that finding Bhaal's Temple was a lot harder than simply falling into the nearest sewer grate, so Gortash and Ro ended up pooling their resources and efforts. From time to time, they would meet to discuss new leads and exchange information to make the search more effective.

Considering that doppelgangers were a 24/7 threat to Gortash, it was very much in his interest not to sit around and do nothing.

And one of those meetings ended up being moved from Wyrm's Rock to his home x)

It was clear when I first met her that I had never known someone like her before.

Someone who knew the games I played and who played along with it.

Someone who saw my darkest desires, someone who saw my darkest plans and who just smiled. Someone who wanted to make them a reality herself.

How could I not love her?
