His jaw clenched as she spouted her anger before her lips twisted in a smirk. “I am the rightful heir of Camelot and the one true king. That boy,” he refused to acknowledge the child as his own; the mess that had been caused in the kingdom before she had been banished was hard enough to forget without the reminder, “is not my heir and will never be king.”
“The only reason father chose you over me is that he was a misogynistic asshole who, if the gods have any sense of justice at all, is rotting for all eternity in the underworld. As first born, the throne...and the Kingdom...belong to me. But then you’re no different than him...are you? Believing the fact you were born with a dick gives you some kind of divine right to what is not actually yours. Well we all saw where thinking with your dick got you. Are you really going to deny your son as well? Deny him what is his by birth? Do you fear your Christian Whore that much? That you would leave your own child to rot in this place?”
He would not let her rile him up; at least that was what he told himself. “The Isle seems to suit you far more than my castle.“
He could tell himself that all he wanted. She knew how to get under his skin. Knew him...intimately.
“That castle is not yours! Nothing in Camelot is yours. I am the first born...our father’s rightful heir. Speaking of which...” And here her expression changed -- from the momentary anger that flashed through her eyes to a sickening smirk. Because he gave her just the opening she needed... “Come to see your son?”
“Morgana…“
“Little Brother. Such a long way from your stolen castle. And without your pet magician. Whatever brings you to the Isle?”
Nodding, Mal found herself pocketing the little plant, hoping that Morgana wouldn’t mind that much. Most of Mal’s own territory was industrial, which meant no plant-life. Maybe if she took this, she could figure out a way to plant some at Bargain Castle. “I didn’t know all these little plants could do so much.”
“Has your mother taught you nothing of the old ways?” She knew Maleficent could be harsh; that she had no patience for what she perceived as weakness, but Morgana would have thought part of that was properly educating her children. How could she ever expect Mal to come into her full potential if she was kept ignorant of the ways of her people -- sorceresses and fae alike? “Plants, nature, they are the very basis of magic. Of our power. It’s why you so often hear tell of witches in the woods...not many witches in the city stories, are there?”
“I doubt they ever will.” She sighed, sipping at her wine before lounging back in her seat, legs crossing in a way that was seductive and alluring. Her nature being that even when relaxed and not on the hunt for new toys she was still seductive, unable to help the way it naturally came to her. “Although it does work in our favor sometimes. They never see it coming when its a woman and heaven forbid that we would use them to our advantage.”
The mention of the Frollo’s having it coming to them drew a wicked smirk over her lips. “Don’t they? I have a few extra special plans for Claude. By the time I’m done with him he’s never going to be able to recover.”
Chuckling she then added, standing to refile Morgana’s glass without asking, knowing the other would desire another. “My favorite is when they think they can actually compete with Mordred for my real affections.”
“Too true, my dear. Men lack both the humility and the intelligence required to change. To learn any real lesson.” There were exceptions, of course. Maeve’s brother. Her son. But those cases were extremely rare.
“I can hardly wait to hear the tale.” Claude, like his father, deserved everything that was coming to him. Whatever Maeve did to the boy, it would be more than justified.
“Just goes to show how much intelligence they’re lacking. To think they could ever compete with my son.” She did so love Maeve and Mordred together. She was the only girl worthy of him. “When we get off the island and reclaim what is rightfully ours...you will make a lovely queen. Together, you and Mordred will bring Auradon to its knees.”
A room it was then, though he thought the boy could be no more a demon than some of the younger knights; Rambunctious, loud, always ready for a fight. The young lord could surely be much better behaved, even if he was tired from a long journey. Still, he would not argue with the Lady Morgana, for she knew her son much better then he would. They had only just met after all.
Lancelot nodded before he took a step back, he glanced down the hall before back at her. “I’ll take you to the rooms by the courtyard, so should the young Lord wish, he could enjoy some fresh air without disturbance,” he offered. “It is also closer to the throne and dining room.” Being so close to those areas meant it would easier for Morgana and her brother to socialize as a family, and it was much safer in case anyone dared try anything – not that they ever would.
With that explained, Lancelot began to guide his King’s sister and her son down the hall, ensuring to hold open any door for her that they had to pass through. When they finally reached the rooms he was talking about, he opened the door once more for her.
“Here you go Milady,” he smiled. “If there is anything else you shall need, please don’t hesitate in calling on me.”
Oh, he’d be surprised. But then Lancelot had no idea the power her son contained; the greatness that lay before him. But if the knight wanted to think him no different than any of the other children at court, she certainly wasn’t going to correct him. Better they all underestimate him. It will work well to their advantage in the future.
“Thank you. I have no doubt he’ll love the placement. Being able to see the goings on. The knights. Like all small boys, he is fascinated by knights.” Or so she wanted them to believe. Let them believe that Mordred wanted to serve his “uncle”. Be one of his knights. Sit at his table. No one else needed to know the truth. Save her brother.
Him she would tell. Right before she made him acknowledge Mordred as his son. Name him his heir. First born and crowned prince.
“And I won’t. I promise. Though...do you know if the Queen is about? I feel I should pay my respects to her while Mordred rests.”
“Sought you….” The words trailed off as he turned slightly to look at Alainne, brow furrowing in question. “Is this true? Did you seek her out Alainne.” Worry etched every inch of his voice and body even as his sword remained raised, waiting for his sister’s answer.
Alainne had been dreading this, dreading what would happen when her brother found out that she went to the Isle. And not just that, but that she had gone to see their aunt. The one person who had sworn to destroy them and their father. Who considered them to be usurpers to the crown...
“It is.” She’d say no more than that. Not unless pressed.
Smirking, Morgana remained silent. She had done her part -- had started a divide among the siblings. For now, there was nothing else she needed to do save watch. Watch as they began to fall apart.
“Verbena,” She repeated, picking up the small plant and rolling the stem between her fingers, while in thought. “Like vervain, right?” She was pretty sure the two plants were related in some way, but Mal was more familiar with the latter name, even if she hadn’t been sure what the effects of it were. By the sound of it, there were a lot. “I might just have to start carrying this thing on me more often.”
“Exactly like vervain. They belong to the same family and have nearly identical properties.” Morgana was quite pleased with the young dragon’s knowledge. “And you definitely should. There are certain things a sorceress should never be without. Verbana is at the top of that list.”
//Well, my friends are gone. Con is over. NY was fun and I’m done dealing with the teeny tiny medical issue that decided to plague me the moment all that was over. That means I am here and ready to start catching up. Woo!

She looked skeptically at the woman. It was worth noting that Mal had lived her entire life on the Isle. She had almost no idea what magic was supposed to feel like, and the fact that there was apparently so little on the Isle didn’t help. The argument that Morgana possessed concerning potions made sense though, although Mal couldn’t remember seeing her mother ever dabbling with that while she was young.
A slight smile came to her lips after hearing her last few comments. “I never thought of it as actual magic,” She admitted with a shrug, unsure why. It wasn’t something her mom taught her either, at least not on purpose. “I just know that, whenever it does happen …I guess it makes me feel powerful.” She mostly used her eyes to intimidate others, the same way her mother would do the same to her.
Were Mal to voice her skepticism and frustrations, Morgana would understand. She knew Mordred also experienced them. He had been young when they had been banished -- his powers just the barest of memories now. But she had been practicing since she was much younger than Mal. Learning of the Goddess and the ways in which she appears on the Earth. Learning of the fae and how their magics interact with those of the ancients. There was magic here. Dormant. But there. She could feel it.
And no. She didn’t suspect Maleficent would bother with such things. A faerie of her caliber would never make them for herself. That was what witches and priestesses were for. Lower fae...
“Of course it’s magic. What else would it be? And you should feel powerful. You have a great deal of power inside you, Little Dragon. Were it not for the barrier, I have no doubt that your power would be limitless. Which is why we must prepare you for the day it comes down. I’ve heard your mother’s plan. Everyone has. And if she can truly break the barrier...well then, you and your magics will have free reign.”
The Queen stared at Morgana her glare and anger at the woman’s words getting her a little angry. “My husband is a good man. Like my father Phillip of Corona. First born may have the right to the throne but Alaric, my dear boy deserves the throne, he is protective of me and his sisters. He’ll be a great king one day like his father.” Rapunzel glared a little. “Who are you calling a whore? I’m of royal blood. And married to the king of this realm.” She roared out. She was pretty angry and boy, the anger came flowing out.
“Your husband is delusional. A naive fool dragging the whole Kingdom into his game of make believe. The ideals he sets upon his table...no man can stick to them. Not even him.” After all, Mordred had come about to a little...discretion of Arthur’s, had he not? “Exactly! First born has right to the throne...and MY son is Arthur’s first born. He will have what he is owed. Mark my words on that.”
At her last bit, Morgana couldn’t help but laugh. “Now now, Darling. Don’t take such offense. No one said you weren’t a princess. Whether you’re a whore or not has nothing to do with the station of your birth...I mean my own mother betrayed her husband...and it earned her the place of High Queen beside Uther Pendragon.”
❝ I like it. What is it? ❞ ( king arthur starters )
“Verbena. You’ll find it to be one of the most versatile of herbs – a staple in any collection. You can use it for divination, protection, inspiration, abundance, love, peace, tranquility, healing, prosperity, skill in artistic performance, and the reversal of negative activity. You’ll rarely find a poultice or potion that does not include it.”
❝ You’re playing with fire, Morgana. ❞
“If I am, then it is you who will end up burned, Arthur.”
Twice a week. Mal could manage that. School was a thing, but frankly, she could probably get away with ditching and being praised for it. “I am,” She nodded after a passing moment. She had every feeling that these studies weren’t going to be easy, but she was certainly determined to try. Whatever it took to be successful, right?
“Since there’s no magic on the Isle,” She started, that little aspect hitting her. “How do we study?”
School. Morgana put very little faith in the “schools” upon the isle. Everything Mal needed to know, she could teach her. From the history of her kind, the kingdoms...to the ways of the ancients...and evil schemes. After all, she had seduced her brother in order to bear his son -- heir to the throne.
She looked forward to having Mal as a student. Especially as her son and daughter were quickly coming to the end of their own education.
“I wouldn’t say there’s no magic on the Isle. There’s very little. Barely any. But those who roots go deep enough...they can feel it.” Like the magic Morgana used to control the mists. It was nothing compared to what she used to do off the isle, but it was something. “Potions and poultices...they still work here. You can learn the magical properties of herbs and crystals. Know when and how to apply them. And don’t think I haven’t seen your eyes glow...there’s magic deep inside you. Magic not even the barrier could quash.”
