haven't really seen anyone mentioning this on my dash but mi'kmaw fishermen in nova scotia are being intimidated and attacked for exercising their right to fish. mi'kmaw chiefs have declared a state of emergency & the RCMP are on site. a lot of the news coverage has been pretty skewed or outright absent. there's been requests for provincial and federal government support for the fishers, who are exercising rights that are historically and legally theirs.

Hello friends! In light of the creator of Inktober shamelessly plagiarizing his newest artbook from Black artist and art instructor Alphonso Dunn, and the constant harassment of Black cosplayers and artists for re-imagining their favourite characters as black (i.e. Kiana Mai’s drawing of Princess Peach) in media where we are underrepresented, I’ve teamed up with my friends over at the Black Card Members community and created #Blacktober! Let’s create a positive space for Black creatives, by Black creatives. ❤️ 

Blacktober is a month long exclusive event where Black creators get to turn their favorite characters into something that looks like them or draw their Black OCs using the official prompt list or their own! The event is meant to overall have fun by putting a fun, representative twist on their faves be it from anime, western cartoons, video games, and more!

If you are nonblack and would like to participate, you can do so by sharing, uplifting and commenting on the work of Black creators and protecting them from the possible backlash they might receive. Alternatively, you can join OC-tober, where you will be drawing the OCs of Black people while continuing to spread Black joy and overall promoting Black artists! There will be an OC bank where Black creators can submit their Black OCs, for anyone (nonblack & black) to draw! We are currently accepting submissions from Black creators HERE!

the birds in quarantine, because it’s midnight and i’m coping

taako: starts vlogging every minute of his life, including his weird and elaborate recipes. i’m talking full, week-long cooking processes. when he’s on camera he looks fabulous but most of the time he looks like a drowned rat. his followers ask him “how he does it.”

magnus: decides to become even more swole than he already is. follows every fitness challenge under the sun and takes blurry selfies to document the process. turns every possible surface/piece of furniture/household item into workout equipment. it’s starting to become a problem.

merle: decides this is the perfect time to shun materialism and fully become a man of faith. makes a big show of meditating, of reading scripture, of spending hours trimming a single bonsai. secretly binges tv in the bathroom and sneaks snacks from the kitchen at 3 am. it’s not that much of a secret.

barry: devoted to his academic pursuits. spends even more time locked in his lab doing weird experiments or staying up all night to read ancient, arcane texts on the internet - when you don’t need to wake up at a reasonable hour the next morning, why bother going to bed? chooses a passion project, like learning another language, and devotes every waking hour to this project for about three days before giving up.

lup: goes the most stir-crazy out of all of them. cycles through everyone else’s coping mechanisms - helps taako in the kitchen, works out with magnus, assists barry with experiments - but also creates and pulls elaborate pranks. it’s her main source of joy.

lucretia: reading, a lot of reading, and finally sitting down to write that novel she always said she would write. she was a homebody for most of her life so it’s not that different than what she grew up with. after a criminally bored lup asks lucretia to read out loud to her, story time with creesh becomes a nightly occurrence.

davenport: the most prepared. made sure the ship was stocked with all necessary healing supplies, home goods, and non-perishables. keeps surfaces clean, keeps crew members from tearing each other apart. refuses to admit his coping mechanism is anime and anime fanfic. taako figures this out and holds it over him for weeks.
