You taunt me at night, but also in the day. You’re written in so much I see. The universe really was ours.
I see you in people. I always knew you were close. We were, are, tied together. The more I learn the more it just all makes sense, the more fate shows its face, the more the universe pushes the lesson onto me. She reminded me of you for a reason beyond the surface, turns out.
I keep learning of so many people that knew you. And in that, I feel this deepening sense of responsibility to fix it for everyone. Just like I used to. I knew you the best, the longest, the most. No competition, just facts that made me feel like I had answers for everyone, answers that I had to figure out so long ago all by myself.
Fuck, I’m listening to songs right now to help me get through this and you fucking shine through them even though they’re so loosely related you still somehow find a way to confirm your presence. You knew I would get it and yes, I do.
I feel the need to be a leader for some reason. To make people feel better. To make you known and understood. I feel like I’m the one with all the power and control.
I thought I could process what we went through and the effects it had on me at my own pace, my own time. It will come after I’ve dealt with /everything else/. But the universe is forcing me to confront it. It’s saying that it’s time, no matter what. It’s part of every other change, the rinse of my life. It’s crazy how my cat was born the same time we became friends and she also died within days of you. Four days. It’s crazy how I moved into that house when I became friends with you and moved out of it two weeks after you died.
I just have to go with it and find out ways to let the feelings roll before they become too buried. I just don’t know how to bring up such a fragile topic with people whose mental capacity I have no idea of. I’ve been hardened by our experience and had time to feel such grief and loss long before you died. I already accepted the fate so long ago, that I forgot others could carry hope for it to be different.
I knew you so well that I knew exactly how you felt about this. A bittersweet sigh of relief. A shrug of the shoulders. Hope for redemption in the next life. And an appreciation for all the people that made the good moments good. I reached out to my cards because I knew you would connect and they reflected the exact same sentiment.
I felt it when your physical form was let go from the world, or finally put to rest. I noticed that your presence wasn’t as overwhelming anymore. You went somewhere else for a hit, but a small part of you returns every now and then. I know you wouldn’t want to leave me, I know that you understand what I had to do for myself now. Regardless, what is undeniable is the connection we shared with each other that neither of us shared with anyone else.
I missed your love and friendship so much. I would’ve kept it if it wasn’t killing me. I really would have. We were so young and cute, little dreamers. Best friends. But I knew the lessons I had to learn. I trusted those feelings. I’m happy you went peacefully, that you kept living for so long.
I knew you came to me because I felt the love and confidence that you used to give me. The way you used to boost my confidence and make me feel my own power. The way you always reminded me of that.
I’ll get some guts to figure out how to talk about you to people who could use the comfort. I just gotta.
