September 1988 Wanpakku Comics Super Mario Bros. 2 Issue 09

From 1985 to 1989 Wanpakku Comics was a major producer of Nintendo manga and strategy guides. While much of the manga was later released in volumes, (and some as recently as 2021 for the e-book “Wanpakku Revival | わんぱっくコミック・リバイバル”) the company closed in 1989 and the last issues of the Nintendo properties can only be found in the original monthlies. Because they’ve been out of print and completely inaccessible for nearly 40 years people have asked me if I could scan them so they could finally see inside. You can find 2400dpi cleaned pages, and 2400dpi RAWS, on my Internet Archive page in the "Download Options" section.

They’re being scanned out of order because I’m starting with the issues I’ve already de-bound for other content. You will be able to keep track of the chapters with the link on the side bar.

Super Mario Bros. "Where's Waldo" Fold-out Poster This is so cute! I scanned it at 2400dpi if you want to see it up-close.

Shogaku Ichinensei's 1992 June Issue, the "Where's Waldo" Super Mario Bros. fold-out mini-poster. 小学一年生 06, 1992. This is basically a magazine for first graders. But it's got super adorable art in it.

It features Mario, Yoshi, Bowser, and a pink Yoshi that seems to be named Akayoshi-chan (if I'm reading that correctly)

This Super Mario Bros. Anime art is from the 1987 Suntory Ade Orange Nintendo Famicom Calendar. The original text said it was for Super Mario Bros 2 but that would be "The Lost Levels." Alt text: This is a really fun and colorful underwater band scene. The Koopa and other bad guy characters play instruments. Mario and Luigi dance on a giant pearl. Peach sings from a clamshell while Bowser stands behind it. There is aquatic life watching them from every angle.

I couldn't find this The Mysterious Murasame Castle art online, so maybe it hasn't been scanned before, or maybe image searches continue to get worse and worse? Either way this scan is from the 1987 Suntory Ade Orange Nintendo Famicom Calendar. This Metroid art has been online before, usually because of a a poster, but every version I can find has the sides cut off so some of these line drawings are missing. This Family Computer Golf, Famicom Golf, or Mario Golf art is from the 1987 Suntory Ade Orange Nintendo Famicom Calendar. Alt text: Mario hits a koopa into the air with a golf club. Toad, Luigi, and Princess Peach look on from the green. Toad looks horrified while the other characters look relaxed.

This contains art for The Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda: The Hyrule Fantasy (Zelda 1), Mario Golf, or more appropriatley it's likely Famicom Golf or Family Computer Golf, Metroid, The Mysterious Murasame Castle, and the Super Mario Bros Anime (Super Mario Bros 2 aka The Lost Levels)

I've started an account for my rare, out of print, retro scans from the 80's and 90's! I hope you follow along!

To start this is super cute and is likely new-to-the-internet.

I made 2400dpi scans of this card insert that's a Super Mario Bros. mini game with art by Yukio Sawada / 沢田ユキオ from the Wanpaku Comics / わんぱっくコミック April 1987 issue. Both the cleaned and RAW scans can be found here, on Internet Archive.

Here's how to play by Autumnal Dryad:

You cut out all 4 round cards and the guide rectangle card.  Then you hand all the round cards to your friend.  They choose a character and hand you all cards with them on it.  By adding up all the blue circles you can calculate what character it is.
