Random question: any tips for doing eyeliner with chronically shaky hands? (Essential tremor, Parkinson’s, medication-induced Parkinsonism, etc.)
(Especially for pencil liner! 🥺👉🏻👈🏻)
Guide Beauty is a makeup brand make explicitly for accessibility to individuals with tremors. I believe the founder/creator has Parkinson's herself and designed tools and applicators to allow her to continue her makeup routine.
Hi everyone, my name is Sena, I'm a non transitioned MTF (parents aren't supportive of that kind of thing) and I'm pretty much brand new to the makeup community aside from a few James Charles tutorials. If anyone could send me some tips on getting started as well as places to get makeup without having to literally sell my soul and give up my firstborn to pay for it I would greatly appreciate it, I hope to one day get transitioned and start my own makeup channel and maybe get somewhere
If you're looking for a little of everything for as cheap as possible, e.l.f. is a good starting point. It's available almost anywhere, they carry anything you might need - makeup and accessories/brushes, and are usually the cheapest. Plus their quality has improved drastically over the past 10 to 15 years - they are more now than their reputation used to be. Wet n' wild is a close second for most of these reasons, I am generally more choosy with this brand - their brushes, for example, are not as good as e.l.f.s.
If you are willing and able or are looking for more high end products, TJ Maxx, Marshals, Ross, those kinds of "resell shops" generally have some nice brands. Too faced, NARS, Anastasia, that level of products. However, they usually have been pillaged and are gross, swatched, and used by the time I stumble upon them so please take extra caution to make sure the item you are buying is clean. Don't be afraid to ask a sales associate if they can watch you open something so you can make sure you are getting a quality product. Or, you can ask when their deliveries are scheduled and show up to get the first pick of the new truck.
As far as finding tutorials go, YouTube searches are the easiest. If you're looking for new people to follow, I would search for a technique or tips for a specific thing like "waterline tips" or "holiday cut crease" and use that as a way to find someone that you like. Are they easy to listen to, do their directions make sense, maybe they have a similar face shape to you?
Lastly, keep in mind that there is no wrong way to do makeup. Have fun and allow yourself space to practice.
I found this post and thought it'll be really helpfully to for some of you guys
Some personal help!!
Hiya awesome people! This is nothing important but I am going to try and change my style a bit and I want to wear makeup! So, if anyone has some beginner/makeup noob tips for me, I would greatly appreciate it! <3
Tinted moisturizers or BB/CC creams are a great place to start instead of foundations, they are more sheer and light weight, but can be applied more haphazardly.
I started out doing my eyebrows with powders and still feel that it is harder to noticeably "mess them up" than other methods. But just combing them helps a lot, even of you don't add color.
There are so many different formulas and wand shapes and sizes for mascara, don't feel like you have to LOVE the first one you pick out.
Have fun with all of it. Practice takes time and patience. Don't make makeup a chore for yourself. Have fun. Hope this helps.
gods i fucking cried
This part stood out to me especially
This is really important, especially now during the holidays. You owe nothing to nobody if they make you uncomfortable.
I just wanna say...
I'm all for makeup. I'm all for skincare. I'm all for those forms of self empowerment. 100%
But if that's not for you? If you don't care for cosmetics? Or the latest in top-line anti-wrinkle rare flower essences infused lotion? That's fine. And you probably know who you are.
If anyone (a loved one, a boss, a friend, a stranger on the bus, a spouse) if ANYONE is telling you that you should, or have to, or would look better if, or more professional if you would wear makeup or start an anti-aging regime, then you know what? 2 words.
Fuck 'em.
Those are personal decisions. Do what feels comfortable. That level of performance should never be expected or forced on you.
I regret never having the chance to learn how to do makeup as a young teen so much. I was so afraid of my dad that I never got the chance to learn. And now, I just feel like I'm past the point to learn. Everyone my age seems like they can do *flawless* makeup and I dont even know what some of the items are let alone do.
So now I'm stuck not knowing how to do makeup, or where to look to learn. Other people have put it on me and it makes me feel a lot more confident but I cant do it myself. Someone help me.
There are so many places to start, and while youtube can be a great resource, it call also be incredibly overwhelming. So many youtubers have advanced skill, or expensive products, or give conflicting advice, ect.
I would start there or with just some magazines, pop culture references in general, and see what appeals to you the most. The perfectly chiseled eyebrows? The sculpted, contoured faces? The beautifully blended eyeshadow? And build your makeup collection and practice around that first.
Confidence can be built by playing with more subtle products (or even with no products at all). Try using a tinted moisturizer or BB/CC cream instead of a proper foundation. Or instead of trying to put product in your eyebrows, just comb them and give them shape that way.
Finally, practice, play, practice, have fun, practice, experiment, practice, practice, and practice. There is no one way to do anything. Most tools, sponges, brushes, whatever can be used for pretty much anything depending on what look you want to go for. And different products are going to work differently on different tools which will look different on different skin types and tones.
I hope this helps, have fun!
Ya girl needs some liquid foundation recommendations.
Help a homie out please thanks.
My personal favorite right now is Kick Ass Foundation by Soap & Glory. It has a very light, whipped-feel. For a drug store brand it is slightly more expensive but it's a boots company. These are the same people that do No7 Cosmetics, you pay for quality. Plus, it's in a pump bottle and I am 100% about the added hygiene.
no new skincare trends let’s age like humans
bro washing your face is good and ok im just sick of skincare companies manufacturing skincare trends that have people (mostly young women!) spending like 60 bucks on a small vial of glorified grapeseed oil or rosewater can yall USE REASON TO DEDUCE MEANING PERHAPS?
Any tips on how to wear black lipstick without looking ridiculous?
Many black lipsticks have some kind of issue that come with them. (They drag and end up skipping so you have to layer in on to cover patches, or the glosses don't pigment evenly, some dry your lips into sad raisins, ect.) So take this with a grain of salt.
I would highly recommend a lip liner. Maybeline has a clear one that is the only one I use because it goes with anything. However, black lipstick is so dark, any color lip liner should do.
Next, (only if you are wearing a traditional lipstick bullet) I would put on a little bit of chapstick before the lipstick. This should help with two things, 1) it should prevent the color from skipping, help it go on more evenly and 2) help prevent the lipstick from drying your lips out.
Also, I have actually set my lips with a very little bit of powder with black lipstick before. I know it sounds crazy. But it helped prevent the product from traveling, it gave a matte look instead of a satin finish, and just generally worked for me. I'm not sure how this would work over a long period of time and with reapplying. Also, setting a black lip gloss is not advisable.
As far as making the lip look work with the rest of your face: keep the eye makeup light and bright and make sure to conceal under the eyes really well.
Good luck! I hope this helps!
What is the best start-iest of start points for learning to do makeup? All the tutorials I've seen so far are like...beyond my understanding right now.
Oh and the laziest...I can't even be bothered to properly do the foundation/concealer/base stuff. I...that's all the same thing, right?
I would start with reccomending the most simple of things.
Comb your eyebrows. (Even if you don't pluck or add color to them. Just a comb can elevate a look.)
Mascara. (You don't have curl your lashes or layer on three different formulas. It's quick and has a fairly small learning curve with consistency and practice.)
Maybe a pressed powder foundation. (Very little skill required. Adds something without looking weird of you don't do a full face. They come with their own applicators so it's less of a start up investment.)
And finally, maybe a little bit of lip color. A gloss, tinted lip balm, or applying a LITTLE lipstick after lip balm are all super low maintenance ways to add a little color.
Even if u don’t plan to participate, i want to spread the word.
those little things on ur nose aren’t blackheads, don’t try and get rid of them they’re sebaceous filaments and they’re permanent and literally everyone has them
every girl has that little pouch of fat on her lower tummy, despite what magazines try n show u, you have important organs there that need to be protected don’t try and get rid of ur pouch
ur body is smarter than u think and it knows what to do when u eat more than normal. one bad day, or even week, of eating poorly isn’t gonna ruin anything at all I pinky promise
if u think u look good up until u try taking a selfie, it’s not ur fault - our faces are asymmetrical and when u see ur face flipped it will look unnatural to u, since u don’t see it that way when u look in the mirror. to everyone else it looks perfectly fine
no one’s stomach looks the same at 8pm as it does at 8am. no one has a chiseled six pack after a day of eating, not even the super fit people u see on tumblr, because ur stomach naturally expands after eating and expecting to have a flat tummy before bed is very unrealistic
no one notices if the bags under ur eyes are bad today. no one pays attention to the bump in ur nose or the zit on ur chin or the piece of hair that u missed when u were straightening. literally no one notices these things except you so stop worrying about it ur gonna be fine
sometimes u just gotta get over urself
this made me cry I needed it so bad
