So, the censor-the-net-in-the-name-of-kids bill KOSA's nearly dead, but there's still a lot of push for it by attorney generals, parents' groups, and the folks at eX-Twitter, who've made "improvements" that aren't really going to do shit to fix it.
And this is the most dangerous time, because there's every likelihood that they're going to try and slip KOSA into a must-pass end-of-year bill. They do that a lot in congress to pass bills that otherwise wouldn't, and if they do that it's very likely to sneak past us with zero scrutiny.
We need to keep this from happening. So, if you're located in the US, look up your representatives and senators and call their offices to tell them that the Kids Online Safety Act should not be included in an end of year spending bill, and that they cannot let this happen.
And if you aren't, please boost, we're almost there, we can't let them shove it through while victory is so fucking close...
KOSA Has Been Reintroduced - Take Action to Stop It!!!
KOSA is a censorship bill that won’t make kids safe. Instead, it'll put all internet users at risk, especially youth. If you believe in a fr
KOSA won’t make kids more safe. Instead, it’ll put youth in danger by preventing them from accessing resources they need. Concern about young people’s harm from Big Tech are valid and real, but enabling censorship that harms the most marginalized kids is not the answer. Lawmakers concerned about online safety should reject KOSA and instead work to protect all internet users from abusive tech companies by passing a federal data privacy law and measures that do not threaten online communities that queer and trans youth depend on.
More on why KOSA needs to go here:
Fight for the Future, May 14, 2025
Contact your representatives here!!!
KOSA died in the House last time after getting 90% of the votes in the Senate. We CAN stop this again!!!
FIGHT BACK AGAINST KOSA (S.1748) and the SCREEN ACT (S.737) - SPREAD THE WORD
THE US IS TRYING TO PASS A CENSORSHIP LAW SIMILAR TO THE ONE IN THE UK ‼️
It allows the government to censor anything they want to online
This includes LGBT, adult content, etc
Speak up about this and call your local representatives / senators!!!
We cannot let this pass. it had failed to pasr back in 2022 and 2023 and 2024 due to strong public backlash, now it being reintroduce again in 2025 cause it got introduce back in may 2025.
The lie of “protecting kids” is an old political lie fed to parents and people who don't know how the internet work and use their fear and concern just try to pass bill to try to control the internet and put censorship mask as 'safety' to justify overreach. Real safety doesn’t come from control — it comes from education, critical thinking, and resilience.
“You don’t bubble-wrap a child’s mind — you teach them how to navigate the world with it.”
You can’t make the entire internet safe for a child. it never had and never will be, And the world/internet shouldn’t make adults live in a sanitized, censored internet just because some parents won’t supervise or guide their kids. It’s like banning cars because some parents don’t teach their kids to look both ways before crossing the streets.
It’s a parent’s job to guide and educate — not to demand the government lock down the internet, You can’t regulate away bad parenting, and Digital parenting requires effort. If you hand a child a device, you should understand what they’re being given access to.
what KOSA really is A lazy, authoritarian solution to a complex, human problem.
so instead of 'protecting kids', how about parents start 'preparing kids', teach the kids internet safety, what they can and cannot see and explain why: "the site say 18+, that for adults only, and you're still young, you should't be on there', etc.

they are barring wikipedia. they are barring spotify. they are barring important news - both national news and world news. they are barring mental health forums and LGBTQ related things and so much more. this is not about protecting children, it has never been about protecting children.
the online safety act is an insane privacy breach, and if that does not scare you then you need to think harder about it. it is going to end up in a massive data leak - all the information is getting collected by random third party systems. can we trust them? no. can we even hold them accountable? no. because the government couldn’t even make their own system to do these age checks.
and i hear you - it is important that kids don’t see porn. but even if all this was about protecting kids, it’s sloppy and useless. it’s easy (for now) to get around with a vpn and the only thing the act doing is censoring things that it shouldnt. if the government wanted to protect kids, they would do something concrete about it - they would be putting more funding into education, for example.
of course the policy isnt called “national surveillance”. they’re not going to call it that. everything will be hidden behind things that people want.
so email your MP, and tell other people that this is WAY more than blocking porn from children - this is the first step towards national surveillance.
And I want to say to the US audience seeing this: we are not far from this being a reality too.
Text for S.1748 - 119th Congress (2025-2026): Kids Online Safety Act
Summary of H.R.1690 - 119th Congress (2025-2026): SCREEN Act
I will give the details of these two absolutely abhorrent acts in a continuation post, but in the meantime, just skim the contents, or watch some videos talking about these blatant attempts of invasion of privacy. You’ll see and hear that everything is coated in the sentiment of “think of the kids”, and that they are doing this to keep kids away from the dangerous stuff on the internet. However, everything is incredibly vague, as you’ll come to realize, giving politicians and big companies and the assholes in power to restrict whatever they want, while asking for your biometric data and/or your personal identity. It’s what parents, teachers, and friends alike warn you about, yet this is slipping through the vents because if you do try to defend it, you WANT children to get harassed and worse on the internet, right? It’s incredibly sickening to read, but we must in order to stay informed and fight against it.
Just so yall know project 2025 will also be cracking down on "degenerative content" which is everything I love and brings me comfort. Movies, video games, literature, online content. If they deem it "immoral" they will want to destroy it. Archive everything you love! Pirate everything! Download everything! Your favorite movies, plays, fanfics, video games. Buy books before they get banned. Invest in thumb drives, blank cds, dvds, get downloading software on your devices, print things if you can afford it.

well this fucking sucks
imagine having to dox yourself because you made the mistake of watching a 4 hour mighty morphin power rangers retrospective and the ai decided you were 14 and not 42 like the actual demographic for those videos. sad
like this obviously sucks if you're an adult who enjoys watching animation or doll youtube videos but also i don't think youtube should be tracking 16 year olds because they're afraid of them hearing the word "fuck".
notice how all this censorship crap is happening at once? :)
ever since that right wing religious extremist organization Collective Shout targeted and manipulated payment processors (that are already run by right wing nutjobs) to go after steam and itchio, all this shit is starting to happen at the same time
it may be a tactical "overwhelm bomb" to make people feel powerless, and yeah it may not be that, but it's kinda strange that it's happening all at once
regardless, people need to start calling the shit out of mastercard and visa's phone lines even more
yall in the US need to start calling your representatives about KOSA especially
and people in the EU need to start calling whatever equivalent of a representative they have about all this bullshit as well
companies are now going to start trying to capitalize on invading privacy that has literally been protected for so goddamn long all because of these evil fuckwads that honestly need to get a nail put through their skulls
fucking make a fuss about it. complain the fuck out of shit and flood their goddamn call lines
