Ben Howard // Conrad
“You were the boat that breached In a tale of Conrad’s We will never be the change to the weather and the sea And you knew that”
“It was a joke gift from one of my friends. How do you expect me to have time for that?” He crooked an eyebrow at her suggestion. “Put it back before Hayley finds them.”
“As they all say,” Lyla continued to taunt, “blame your friend, your kids, dog, pillow.” She discreetly placed them in her back pocket, away from the eyes of the innocent. “What do stay-at-home dads have time for these days?”
“Hey! Are you saying you’ve never tried handcuffs?” Ludmilla gasped, snatching them out of her hand, “Holly could see them. And she would probably think they are for fancy dress.”
“Maybe. I will say, however, that I’ve developed a preference for cloth,” A playful smirk still danced on her lips. “She wouldn’t be too wrong about that. They are for ‘fancy dresses’. Baby doll, fishnet,… crotch-less dresses,” She whispered the word ‘crotch-less’.
“No I wasn’t snooping, but --- someone’s been kinky,” Lyla singsongs.
“I come back from my trip and not even a Christmas card from you…that cuts deep, fucking deep.”
“---Bite me Robert!”

“I’m both delighted and worried, dear random stranger. I’m Gabriel, though, run away if you don’t want to end up watching all of the superhero movies.”
“Lyla--- and I am not certain if that is a fate in which I will either welcome or regret. Are these ‘super hero movies’ you speak of in any way romantic?”
After arriving back home a week ago, it seemed as though a few of her things were still arriving by mail. Thankfully, she had just picked up, what she had assumed was, the last of it. Though there was a rather lot, she had managed to pile it on top of each as she made her way out of the building and back to her destination of the gallery. However, with all too much to carry, and people doing their best to weave around her, she had managed to bump into someone, allowing her belongings to strew all over the floor. “Ah, shit.” The brunette cussed as she ran her delicate fingers through her long locks. “Sorry about that.”
The words, 'I’m so sorry,' were mingled into the mix of, ‘ah shit’s while Lyla’s frantic hands were already in the woman’s belongings, grabbing at whatever she could manage to hold. "Oh, god--- no. Don’t apologize, that was me... I-I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going, I guess I was a little distracted is what you could say,” Lyla rambled nervously, handing the belongings to their owner.
“You know, for a person who actually believes in New Years resolutions and has fulfilled them for the most part, I can’t think of jackshit for 2016. All I’ve written down so far was to ‘be a little more adventurous.’ –– That’s a recycled resolution, by the way.”
“Fulfilled them? I-I think you’re doing it wrong. The sole purpose of New Years resolutions is to not fulfill them. I think you should write --- ‘do not follow through with New Years resolutions like a normal, uh, person.’ “
“Okay, come on. Tell me how much you love my new designs. Aren’t they fabulous? Gigi Hadid is going to wear one of my dresses to a red carpet event. I adore this fabric.”
Lyla furrowed her eyebrows, not too certain who Gigi Hadid was, “May-- May I have a feel?”

Emilia had just wanted to step out for some coffee, but of course, seeing that word had gotten around that she was in Montreal, the paparazzi were on her in a moment. Gasping, Emilia was overwhelmed with the snapping photos, the yelling from the press. “Princess! Princess! Are you here to get away from your mother? Princess! How are your studies going at McGill University? Princess! Is it true that you’re back together with Alexander Hunt? Is it true that your mother disagrees with your choice to come here? Princess! Who are you wearing right now?!” Emilia just smiled politely, very politely, grinding her teeth as she got her pictured taken, going into the coffee shop, the press eventually scattering out.
However, she had been so overwhelmed, cheeks flushed, that she didn’t realize she had run into someone with their coffee. “Oh, my gosh! Oh, gosh, I’m so sorry! Here, let me get you another one! I’m so incredibly sorry, here, let me help clean this up. I do apologize, it’s just the press threw me off. Vultures they are, hmm?”
“Those vultures were attacking you?” Was all Lyla said after a while, looking down at the poor frazzled woman. “I’m so sorry, I was so distracted by the mobs of people outside--- I’ve never seen anything like that--- No please, don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine... Are you alright?”
Lucas let out a little grunt of effort as he pulled himself up on the bar, the muscles in his considerable biceps flexing. He heard footsteps approaching and cleared his throat to speak. “I’m almost done,” he told them, his voice more strained than usual from his strain. “Just a few more reps.”
“No worries child. You don’t see me complaining. Take. your. tiime,” Lyla said jokingly.
“Before you bother to ask—- no, the seat is not taken. And no, you can’t sit down.“ Trevor didn’t even care to look up at the person who was standing in front of the table, he simply waited for them to leave him alone.
Lyla finally caught up to the trainer, seated, completely relaxed as if he’s been sitting there for a while. She, on the other hand, was a sweaty mess--- clutching her chest in a heaving fit and grabbing her knees. “Are... You ser-- ious?” She collapsed in the seat anyway, grabbing his glass of water and chugging it down in a very unladylike manner. “Is this how--- you always treat your-- clients?”
“Ah, I guess you could call it that but still not…” this girl was clearly more out of the loop than he was in case she hadn’t fully caught on to his explaination. “Ever been to a college party? I was that rich brat acting like I was better than everyone else just because my parents paid everything for me. It’s childish behaviors, sure, but not the fun kind. I’m childish with my kid, not with a bunch of frats. Huge difference. Does that clear it up for you?”
“Yeah, when I said I’m out of the loop it’s because I’ve been stuck in a smaller town and it’s been pretty much just me and Hayley for quite some time – all I know between now and then is from college, and most friends I meet still act as they’re in college while I’ve actually started to grow past it. So yes, they are really confusing to me at the moment – I think I’ve spoken to more mom’s since I moved back.”
“Oh… I hope it’s not weird for you to be talking about kids in that case, I can change subject if you want to. You can adopt though, give someone a chance to grow under your care.”
“I’ve been to a college party or two in my day,” Lyla nodded her head and tried to speak in a empathetic tone. “However... I think every person is a mess no matter how well we try to hide it or.. not. Sometimes I wonder, why can’t we just be beautiful messes if we’re going to be a mess? You know? Arrange all our little piles of ‘shittiness’ in a way it’s sparkly and aesthetically admirable... cute,” Lyla laughed at herself. “See, you’re not the only one with an odd sense of humor,” she shook her head. “Where is this small town that you speak of though?” Lyla leaned in attentively with her chin resting against her palms.
“Oh no, not weird,” Lyla quickly shook her head. Pushing certain feelings and emotions back deep until they seemed almost non-existent was no difficult task for Lyla. Her infertility story was almost a lie but it was less complicated and less terrible then the actual truth. “In fact, I thought multiple times of adopting,” she said promptly. “My siblings are adopted. But at this moment in time I’m not very prepared... I’m planning to go back to school, earn an income substantial enough to raise a child... blah blah blah,” Lyla sipped on her now cold tea. “I am thirty now, however, so I’m going to have to figure out something fast. But enough about me, how old were you when you had this little angel here?”
