criticizing ilia’s skating skills is completely valid and there is absolutely no issue in doing so. but if the issue u take with ilia’s programs is that he skates to RAP and you call the WHOLE genre of rap slop, u need to unpack that cause theres racist bias.

and im glad some ppl are talking about how some figure skating fans are really weird about skaters potentially skating to hip hop or rap. like we make jokes about the music or stuff ilia skates to because he picks a poser WHITE christian rapper but something tells me that even if he skated to authentic rap, ppl would still despise it just cause its not classical music.

Way to go. You made figure skating palatable for the average straight man by describing it only in terms of biomechanics and physics. Because there is no other way for a straight man to possibly find the sport interesting otherwise. Woohoo. Good for you I guess.

It’s also telling they chose to use footage of a skater wearing more masculine cloths, in the rugged manly outdoors, and never in a sparkly competition costume. They could have talked about the biomechanics and physics with footage of Ilia or Yuma, or so many others, but they just don’t look ruggedly masculine enough do they?

me, no beers in: the best moment of misha’s life is forever inextricably tied to the worst moment of ilia’s. and in that moment, ilia went to misha before anyone else. these two young men, forced by their sport to grow up too fast, yet retaining so much childish joy and whimsy about them. literally and figuratively speaking each other’s language. two sons of champions from ex-soviet nations, the same age but born half a world away from each other, each trying to make their mark as their parents did before them. each carrying the weight of knowing they’re their countries’ only hope. each sometimes succeeding and sometimes failing at living up to those expectations. two boys on parallel tracks in life whose names will always be written side by side in history.

misha is truly a sports anime protagonist. he hated skating at first, but continued pursuing it. he was inspired by denis ten who was tragically murdered. his parents didn't have enough money to pay for his training, so his coach paid for him for a long time. he had to skate during public sessions. he didn't receive support from his fed. yet he was second at jwc. he won 4cc. he qualified for gpf. he was successful but always in the shadow of someone else. he had a terrible 25/26 season. his free skate meant a lot to him but was clowned on by pretty much everyone. and despite all that he becomes the olympic champion and wins the first ogm for his country in figure skating.
