They provide immediate medical aid to those in great need, while also developing local capacity and skills to ensure the long-term development of the Palestinian healthcare system.

Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association is a Palestinian non-governmental civil institution that works to support Palestinian political prisoners held in Israeli and Palestinian prisons.

Samidoun is an international network of organizers and activists working to build solidarity with Palestinian prisoners in their struggle for freedom.

Refuser Solidarity Network provides crucial support to Israel's military refusers in the toughest of political circumstances. They provide funds for for demonstrations outside prison, for legal fees, for media campaigns that tell conscientious objector’s stories to the general public, for education programs for Israeli and American audiences about their important resistance to the occupation.

Hey, I'm very out of the loop here why are people mad at rick Riordan? I also havent read futher that hero's of Olympus

hey! so people have been extremely offended by rick’s portrayal of piper mclean in heroes of olympus for awhile now, specifically that she wore feathers in her hair, a harmful Cherokee stereotype. He recently posted something that I wouldn’t call an apology, but a let’s-try-and-make-myself-look-good piece of writing. In this, he attempted (poorly) to claim that he did his research and actively chose to include this stereotype, because piper (a made-up character that he is responsible for writing accurately) wore the feathers to represent herself and her growth. unfortunately, he admitted that he chose many books written by white authors to do his Cherokee research on, didn’t employ a sensitivity reader, and when received criticism, chose to say “the vast majority of feedback” was positive instead of acknowledging those who were (rightly) offended by his racism

he essentially threw out the “i’m a white dude. i did my best. please don’t be mean to me look at my representation!! see i did SOME research!! what, you want me to rewrite the whole thing” excuse. the fandom has wanted rick to own up to his mistakes for a long time now, but instead we got....this, whatever you can call it. @bidrewtanaka wrote an AMAZING and in-depth explanation of what he did wrong in his apology (if you can even call it that) and i encourage you to look at it if you get the chance.

I love how everyone talks about rose as selfish when she was the most compassionate person on the whole show. Every episode she is looking after people. SHE EVEN FORGIVES A BLOODY DALEK. Like she was the most caring companion the show has ever seen. She even fought with the doctor in the unquiet dead when he said Gwen should risk herself. Countless times she is comforting people in distress. In “the impossible planet” she comforted Toby, in “the idiots lantern” she comforted the wife. The only thing that makes her “selfish” is that she is a flirt. Which in my eyes is completely excusable, she’s 19 for gods sake. Anyway Mickey dated another girl when rose was traveling so they probably just didn’t have a very good relationship at all. All the blame can’t be on her when they both “cheated” or “saw other people”. Rose was away for months at a time her relationship with Mickey was pretty much doomed. It was clear on multiple occasions that she would ALWAYS PUT THE DOCTOR FIRST. Mickey staying with her was his own choice. As early as “the parting of the ways” she says “there’s nothing left for me here” he responds with “nothing?” Implying a question on their relationship and she says “no”. What does that tell you. She chose the doctor time and again. she was still with Mickey (imo) because she didn’t want to hurt him. He had no family left, she felt bad. Sure this leading him on may have caused more harm than just breaking it off completely but her intentions were not malicious or selfish. Rose was more caring and considerate of life and individuals than ANY OTHER COMPANION. Rose was sweet, caring compassionate and the doctor saw that, it’s what made her special. She was part of his healing process because SHE FORGAVE HIM FOR THE TIME WAR and showed him he was more than his past and he was better than his worst moments. So whoever you are accusing this girl attacking her character. Check yourself. Check your facts. Just cause you didn’t like her doesn’t make her any less amazing. Rose always saw the best in people and always believed in doing better. We should all be more like that.

The thing that I love about TenRose is that their romantic feelings toward one another don’t progress from accidental naked shots or being pressed into each other as they squeeze tightly down a corridor. Nothing is overly sexual or forced. Instead, their love progresses when they smile at each other, or when they bump each other’s shoulder when they make a funny joke. Ten fell deeper in love with Rose when she deduced the source of the aliens from the televisions, or when she gazed yearningly into the stars. You can always watch his eyes soften just a bit and a smile tugging at his lips. And Rose falls deeper in love with Ten when he babbles on excitedly about the nature of the universe, how he sasses his opponents and dances around them with mind games. They rely on each other, they flirt with each other so casually, and they grow closer and closer to each other with each dangerous encounter they face.

I love TenRose because it shows that love doesn’t stem from a sexual desire. Love stems from the little, casual things, like making a silly joke just to make the other person laugh, or making a game out of seeing whether or not you can make the Queen of England say a funny phrase. It’s when you rely on each other, when you trust each other, that deeper feelings emerge and you realize you never want to be without them.

In the wake of JK once more being a total jk, here’s a (non-exhaustive) thread of works by Black trans writers.

Don’t Call Us Dead - Danez Smith, poetry about Black masculinity, police brutality, gender and queerness. Probably the best book of poetry I’ve ever read. Smith has several collections available and you should read them all.

The Deep - Rivers Solomon, a speculative fiction novella about the descendants of murdered slave women. Themes of trauma and memory. Really beautiful writing. Their sci-fi novel An Unkindness of Ghosts is equally unmissable.

Redefining Realness - Janet Mock, the memoir of Mock’s childhood and adolescence as a trans woman before she transitioned. Mock’s second memoir, Surpassing Certainty, focuses on her life in her twenties.

Felix Ever After - Kacen Callender, a YA novel about a teenage trans boy (at the start of the book), Felix, as he further questions his identity, tries to find love, and works on his artistic future. Everything that makes YA novels great.

Reacquainted with Life - KOKUMO, a debut about Black trans womanhood and the power of her voice and body. This work is so hard to describe. Ferocious? Lively? Witty? Completely different to literally any poetry I’ve ever read? All of the above and more.

Mannish Tongues - jay dodd, a poetry collection about Black youth, queerness, religion, family, and gender. I hate how pretentious the word ‘visceral’ is, but it’s pretty accurate here. dodd’s collection The Black Condition ft. Narcissus is also phenomenal.

Pet - Akwaeke Emezi, a YA novel about a Black trans teenage girl and having to confront the existence of monsters. Emezi also has an acclaimed adult novel out, Freshwater, and I believe their new adult novel, The Death of Vivek Oji, is out in August 2020.

trigger - Venus Selenite, poetry about being Black, trans, queer, and unapologetic. This one is hard to get hold of, but worth it if you can. Selenite also co-edited and is featured in Nameless Woman, an anthology of writing by trans women of colour.

Surge - Jay Bernard, a poetry collection written in response to the 1981 fire at New Cross Road, as well as Grenfell Tower and the Windrush Scandal. Bernard is one of those poets who can use 10 words to say more than most of us can in 1,000.

Nameless Woman: An Anthology of Fiction by Trans Women of Color - ed. Venus Selenite, Ellyn Peña and Jamie Berrout, this one includes several stories by Black trans women and is, as a body of work, completely invaluable. The stories here range from semi-autobiographical and romance to sci-fi and speculative fiction.

Resilience - ed. Amy Heart, Larissa Glasser and Sugi Pyrrophyta, an anthology of writing by ©AMAB trans people. Again, this anthology is not specifically dedicated to Black trans people, but it includes work by KOKUMO and CHRYSALISAMIDST, amongst others. This book is super varied, with short stories, poetry and personal essays.

Consider ordering these, where possible, from independent Black owned bookstores.

You can also financially support Black trans people through donating to organisations such as this and these.

Important addendum: I tried incredibly hard to find published works by Black trans women, because trans women are the focus of JK Rowling’s tweets and indeed an overwhelming amount of violence and bigotry in general, but I’m sure it’s no surprise to anyone that Black trans women are enormously discriminated against by the publishing industry, and are routinely denied a platform for their work and their voices. Literally, when you Google ‘black trans woman author’, you just get Janet Mock’s author page. I think all of the books by Black trans women in the list above, with the exception of Janet Mock, are self/indie pub.

I have trawled through online indie and radical publishing magazines, message boards, and nearly 100 lists of ‘trans authors you must read now!’ and I would charitably say that about 1% of people featured in such lists are Black trans women. Obviously, Black trans women are writing, but the lack of available platform for their work is a huge barrier to their voices being heard. If anyone else has recommendations for work by Black trans women, whether it’s a physical book, an online chapbook, an Insta account of poetry, or anything else, please add it, because there must be so much more than I’ve managed to find.
