It’s a smoky hellscape outside thanks to yet more massive fires in California.  I’m safe. Most of my friends are safe. A couple have lost their homes. There’s just so much smoke. Below is a map of air quality. The purple-red up in that top left corner is where my hometown is; it’s truly horrible up there (the air quality is “hazardous”). I’m in the lower red area; it’s bad. 

The fires are far enough North they’re not on this map. But the smoke is just so thick again. My lungs hurt.

Now that I’ve whined, talk to me about something good going on for you. I could really use the positive right now. <3

I don’t know if I have any followers who are in the Bay Area, but if you live anywhere near SF right now, you know the air is bad. 

(Purple is “Hazardous,” Red is “Bad,” Orange is “Not Good”) 

There are better catch-all posts out there for a lot of this, but this one is specifically about the air quality, and I’m putting it on this blog because I want the word to get out that when you’re dealing with the kind of particulates in the air that we have right now, you need to stay out of it. 

If you must go outside, you should be wearing a mask. It should be NIOSH rated N95 or better. Those look like this:

On Amazon, here’s one model. At Home Depot, here’s a different model. The important thing is that it needs to be N95, and it needs to be NIOSH rated, or you may as well not be wearing anything.
