It was strange, being in this position as he was now. Not to long ago now, had someone told him he'd be laid out across a motel bed with a human, he'd have killed them on the spot. No hesitation and no mercy. And yet...

Here he laid, his vessel bare and the soft form of his lover spread across his chest. He looked down at them, the way their soft H/c locks tickled his chest and spread around their face. The slope of their nose and natural arch following their spine. Y/n was sleeping peacefully atop him, without a care in the world and all of their trust laid upon him while in their vulnerable moment. He could see the marks laid out upon their skin, a canvas of his claim. He'd made each one with a possessive care and thought.

He would never admit it aloud. But he felt so lucky in this moment. The light of the setting sun through the motel window cascaded his lover in an ethereal light, highlighting their every beautiful and enchanting feature. Y/n's radiance almost made him forget they were a human half the time. The night he'd first laid eyes upon the hunter, the air he didn't even need had been sucked free from his vessels lungs.

He was loathe to admit, that his lovers beauty far outshown his own from before his fall from grace. Y/n..

His thoughts were a constant whirlwind surrounding the human. Love and obsession had long since sunk their claws into him. It's was like falling from grace all over again, the moment he'd met them.

Y/n could slay a monster without blinking, rip and tear astundure everything in their path. And yet, their compassion was their strongest quality. Y/n takes those into their heart and protects them with a fierce and viscous quality that had him falling deeper and deeper for them every day.

To ask Y/n to turn on someone they love would be the same as asking them to give up a part of their soul. And He was constantly questioning how he'd ever earned the spot in the deepest parts of their heart.

Even now, as he held Y/n close in his protective hold. A chilled hand running down to caress the length of their spine. He considered everything that led up to this.

From the moment he'd been unable to stay away any longer, Flying into their hotel to introduce himself, only to end up with a clench fist to the face. To now, the both of them wrapped around each other in a lovers embrace. Following them on hunts, making sure they were always safe, helping them relax and just enjoying the time together.

He'd never understood why humans clung to each other until now.

He loved Y/n...

And he could no longer bring himself to ruin the world that they were apart of...

The fire he sees in their eyes on a daily basis had whittled him away until all that remained was the love he held for them burrued deep beneath the surface of his inner walls. They were his.. They would always be his...

AO3 IS IN TROUBLE IF CALIFORNIAN AGE VERIFICATION LAW PASSES

An upcoming Age verification bill centered in California will be voted on Monday-- And as always,instead of actually protecting kids, it will lead to more online censorship and privacy risks, as it will force websites hosting to verify their users age by sending their ID, your browser history would be linked to it. if you live California, call your reps and tell them to oppose the bill AB3080 as it highly unconstitutional.

They also deem LGBT content harmful to minors, as well as mentions of weapons and tobacco, putting them on the same level as NSFW content.

Since AO3 headquarters reside in California, much like Reddit, Twitter,Discord and Youtube (and others) who knows how bad the effects would be. Instead of just effecting Californians (even then its concerning.) the effects would be US or even worldwide. VPNs wont help.

According to a post by OTW legal, these bills generally would NOT affect AO3, as it's run by a nonprofit. Though they still recommend opposing them for other reasons outlined in the linked post.

The Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) has been much in the news lately, and OTW Legal has been receiving inquiries from understandably concerned users. We thought it would be worthwhile to provide some information on KOSA and also a rash of other bad internet bills that have been proposed around the U.S. It’s been, unfortunately, a busy summer – and now that Congress is back in session it’s time to take action!

The tl;dr is that the OTW and AO3 are not currently implicated by KOSA and many of the other bills because of our nonprofit status (most of the proposed laws only apply to for-profit institutions). This means the operations of the OTW and the AO3 wouldn’t be directly impacted by these bills. However, that doesn’t mean there isn’t reason to be concerned just generally about these bills and the internet environment they would create, so, if you’re in the U.S., you can contact your elected representatives. More information below!

KOSA

KOSA is presented as a bill “to protect the safety of children on the internet,” but that’s not what it accomplishes. Instead, the bill would basically make “covered platforms” liable if they fail to design their platforms to prevent users under the age 18 from exposure to a wide amount of content designated as harmful to children. The AO3 is not a covered platform under this bill, but lots of platforms relied on by kids and fans are for-profit and would be affected by KOSA.

There are a number of concerns about the bill:

First, the content that must be kept away from minors is often vaguely defined. This will inevitably lead to censorship as platforms will err on the side of blocking information to avoid liability.

Second, because platforms only have to avoid exposure to minors, this encourages platforms to verify the ages of all of their users – conduct that would detrimentally affect the ability to be anonymous or pseudonymous online.

Third, it isn’t actually the platforms who get to decide whether the content is harmful to kids; rather, the bill would leave this decision up to the Federal Trade Commission and the individual states. Given that many states have begun advancing theories that information about racism, sexism, sexual and gender identities, and reproductive health is all harmful to children, this could result in widespread censorship of such information under this law.

Sponsors and supporters of this bill have stated publicly that they see it as an anti-LGBTQ+ measure and that if it passes,they intend to use it to discourage online communication that would help young LGBTQ+ people.

Finally, it’s likely that the censorship this bill encourages would affect not just minors but all internet users, as age verification is notoriously difficult online and covered platforms might therefore strive to be cautious and censor all such information to avoid liability.

OTW Legal has directly communicated its opposition to this Bill to Congress. But there is more you can do. The Electronic Frontier Foundation has more detailed information about this bill. Other Bad Bills Around the Country

This summer has unfortunately been a really active one for states quickly passing a number of troubling internet laws, and there are still more in the pipeline. There are also some other bad proposed federal laws floating around. Many of these laws are briefly summarized below. If you’re a resident of one of the states below, you can also make your voice heard to your state representatives. Bad Internet Bills has a lot of great resources to help you get involved in protesting these bills. Further information is provided below.

Federal EARN IT Act and STOP CSAM Act: The EARN IT Act isn’t really new, in that it first showed up in 2020. It wasn’t popular and it was dropped but now it’s back. The bill claims to be about the sexual exploitation of children, but it is worded broadly in such a way as to threaten online privacy and encourage censorship of marginalized communities. In this way, it is very similar to the STOP CSAM Act. Both bills would impose liability on websites for containing certain material, even without that websites’ knowledge, the acts will encourage the same sort of over-policing and censorship that KOSA would promote, probably aimed at speech about reproductive health, gender identity, and sex and sexuality. Also, since the liability could be imposed even when the websites didn’t know any material was there, it encourages websites to proactively scan all content, creating an atmosphere of surveillance on internet platforms and driving platforms out of business if they can’t afford to do that kind of monitoring. Here, too, OTW Legal has communicated our opposition to these bills, but you can help. You can read more about the EARN IT Act’s problems; the STOP CSAM Act’s problems from the EFF; and you can read the texts of both bills. There is also some information on how you can oppose the EARN IT Act and the STOP CSAM Act.

Federal RESTRICT Act: You may have heard the RESTRICT Act referred to as a “TikTok ban.” Among other things, it provides the executive branch with broad powers to take actions to mitigate national security risks posed by internet services with any ties to foreign adversaries. While the OTW and AO3 do not fit the definition for such a service, fans may be interested in the statute because of the free speech implications on their continuing use of TikTok, for instance. Because the statute is vaguely worded to permit executive prohibition in poorly defined circumstances, its future impact beyond TikTok could be great. Find out how to oppose the RESTRICT Act.

Federal Cooper Davis Act: This act would require social media platforms and other providers of internet services to report to the government certain transactions suspected to involve fentanyl, methamphetamine, and other counterfeit controlled substances. The reporting requirements, which would include user identity and location, kick in when the platform has a reasonable belief that a controlled substance transaction might be planned. In theory, this sounds good. In practice, though, this raises privacy concerns and also encourages platforms to monitor user communications to avoid possible liability for failure to report. Such monitoring would likely place disproportionate attention on the communications of people of color and other marginalized communities. You can find out how to oppose the Cooper Davis Act.

New Jersey A5069: New Jersey is considering a KOSA-like bill prohibiting practices by social media platforms that cause harm to children. While the law would not affect the OTW because of its nonprofit status, it carries similar harmful implications as KOSA. The bill has passed the New Jersey Assembly but is still under consideration in the New Jersey Senate. If you are a New Jersey resident, you can voice your opposition to the bill by contacting your state senator..

Maryland’s Age-Appropriate Design Code Act: Maryland is considering a law that would require businesses providing online services not to do anything detrimental to a child. As has been noted, such a vaguely-defined term can be wielded as a censorship tool that stifles online communication. It doesn’t apply to nonprofits like the OTW. If you are a Maryland resident you can contact your representatives about this bill.

California’s SB-680: This proposed bill is similar to KOSA, in that it makes social media platforms liable for designing services that cause harm. Again, this law would not affect the OTW because it doesn’t apply to nonprofits. The bill is currently being debated and has not yet passed. If you’re in California, you can voice your opposition to the bill by contacting your local representative.

California’s Age-Appropriate Design Code Act: This bill passed last year but has not yet gone into effect. Similar to the Maryland bill described above, it requires businesses providing online services not to do anything detrimental to a child. Like Maryland’s bill, this bill does not affect the OTW as it does not apply to nonprofits. The bill, has been challenged in court.

Utah’s Social Media Regulation Acts: Utah has recently passed a bill that requires social media companies, starting next year, to enact age verification on all accounts, require parental consent for minors under the age of 18 to be on social media, provide parents or guardians full access to all social media accounts held by a minor, and block access by minors to social media between 10:30pm and 6:30am, among other requirements. Obviously this bill has a number of troubling implications, and it can be interpreted to apply to the AO3 (although we would argue that it shouldn’t). The bill has already been passed but Utah is accepting input so that may be something concerned users can participate in.

Ohio’s Social Media Parental Notification Act: This recently passed bill would require social media companies, starting next year, to require parental consent for any user under the age of 16. Like the Utah bill, there are arguments that this bill, if passed, could apply to the AO3. (The bill text starts at the bottom of page 622).

Arkansas’s Social Media Safety Act: Arkansas has recently passed a bill that requires social media companies, starting in September, to require age verification and the consent of a parent or guardian if the account holder is a minor under the age of 18. The OTW is not covered by this bill as a nonprofit. However, it has the same troubling implications as the other age verification bills. A trade association for internet companies including Meta, TikTok, and Twitter has sued in federal court to block this bill from going into effect. The ACLU and the Electronic Frontier Foundation have filed a brief in support of blocking the law. (Read more about the lawsuit.)

A bill was proposed in Texas requiring age verification and the prohibition of any minor under the age of 18 being allowed to have a social media account. The bill did not define “social media platform” and so it was unclear who would be covered under this bill. The bill was introduced and referred to committee, but it was not acted upon before the legislature adjourned. Therefore, it has not been passed. We will continue to monitor if the bill becomes active again. (Read the text of the bill.)

You might be wondering why the OTW doesn’t do even more itself to actively oppose these bills right now. As a nonprofit, there are severe limits on how (and how much) the OTW is allowed to engage in lobbying. What we can do is encourage people to oppose these bills by voicing their concerns to their elected representatives! When appropriate, the OTW also participates in amicus briefs, which are briefs in support of positions in lawsuits that would benefit fans and fan creators.

If these bills do pass –- and we hope they don’t! -– we would look for opportunities to work with allies to file amicus briefs and launch other challenges to them. You can read more about OTW Legal’s work, including amicus briefs we’ve filed on our website.

OTW is cagey about where the servers are actually physically located, it's incorporated in Delaware, and the AO3 ToS says they'd go to court in NYC, so I don't know where the idea that it's headquartered in CA came from. The people who started it were in NYC and other Northeastern cities.

These bills suck and should be opposed for other reasons.

The box felt heavy in my hand as I peeled back the thin shrink wrap plastic. It filled the room with a soft crinkle as I pushed the mess to the side and slipped the thin and light device from its protective box. The phone was one of the new models with a cheap payment plan set up for it. The screen lit uo as I swiped through apps and settings. My (E/c) eyes traveled over the device as I added my phone number as well as the few others I knew to the contact list. It only took a few minute to add My number, the Winchesters, and Gabriel under the speed dial options. The entire time I was doing this I could feel an inquisitive gaze digging into my back. Those Glacial blue eyes creating a trail of icy flame along my skin.

Lucifer had his head tilted in that way that all the angels seemed to do when interested or confused. I shot a look accompanied by a brow raise over my shoulder when the digging feeling of his eyes disappeared. I'd barely suppressed the flinch of surprise when the Fallen Angel was suddenly in the library chair on my right. The lips of Lucifers vessel quirked, his ancient gaze picking up in even the smallest of twitches.

I let out a small sigh, before spinning in my seat to face him directly. My smile was polite and without judgment as I look upon the devil sat beside me at the table. I could see his face relax briefly before the smirk was back.

"You seem to be quite invested in something over here, human." His tone was playful and pushy, like a child wanting to know what was going on.

"Ah, I'm setting Up a phone."

Those blue eyes of his blinked and the blond strands atop his head shifted with the slight tilt of his chin. "Did something happen with yours?"

"Oh no, this one isn't for me~" My smirk was small and teasing as I gently picked up the device from the surface of the table and then teasingly wiggled it beneath his nose. "It's yours!"

Lucifers face scrunched up as he looked down at the human communications device. "I have no need for such a pathetically inferior-"

"Lucifer..take the damn phone."

Blonde brows furrowed, and those chilling eyes snapped up to meet my own with a silent warning. I paid it no mind. However, Lucifer always seemed to be all talk whenever it came to the threats and warnings he'd thrown my way. My smile was exasperated and expectant as I wiggled it again.

"If You want to enjoy my presence~ All you have to do is, Pray, Human~"

The snort that forced its way past my lips was a strangled cackle. "You wish. No this is so you can communicate without having to fly everywhere."

The angel took the phone from my hand with a surpsingly gentle touch. I sat watching him as he turned it over in his hands.

My (h/c) brows hiked up my face, waiting for him to unlock the screen. But he just continued to stare down at it with a pinched expression.

"Do.. Do you need help..?"

Lucifers shoulders hunched up in a way that I knew meant he was on the defensive.

"I am Lucifer, I don't need the assistance of a mud monkey."

Irritation flared briefly before I smirked. "Then unlock the screen, Lucifer~"

His jaw ticked and clenched before the space he'd been perched in became empty air with a fluttering of feathers. He'd taken the phone with him...

At some point during Lucifer extended stay within the Bunker, I'd become the unofficial go-between for the winchesters and the fallen angel. Currently, Dean wanted information on a hunt he and Sam were doing. Apparently, it involved an older demon that Lucifer could give them information on.

That's how I found myself standing in the doorway of Lucifers room. An amused glint sparked in my eyes as I took in the way Lucifer was sat on his bed like a frustrated teenager while somehow fumbling with the phone I'd gifted him the same way I'd seen some elderly humans do.

My hands lifted to my lips unsuccessfully, muffling the chuckle that slipped out. It was almost worth seeing the way his back straightened out, and lucifers head snapped in my direction with a surprised fall to his face like a child being caught with their hand in the cookie jar.

"You know, If you're struggling with the phone, You can just ask me to show you how it works."

"I am not-!!"

"Right.. You're the almighty and perfect Lucifer~ I got it."

The huff I received in response brought a roll to my eyes. Before the archangel could protest against it, I was walking into the room and settling myself on his bed beside him. Like he wasn't a being older than life on earth itself and could kill me with a twitch to his fingers. I held out my hand palm up expectantly, and slowly, the angel set the device there.

I spun the phone in my hand so that I could show him the small button on the side. "This turns it on and off, and a tap can lock the screen." A swift click, and the screen lit up, revealing the generic wallpaper. The angel didn't have a password or pin set up yet. So I just swiped my thumb across the glass to unlock it. "Let's start with the simple things first. The basics~."

I was leaning into the angels' space as I began going through the first few apps. "I've already added several contacts in here for you, including Mine and Gabriel's numbers."

"I see..."

I could nearly see the cogs turning in the blonds head as I continued scrolling through the different apps that came with the phone. He was thankfully a quick learner, I'd thought this was going to be like teaching Cas how to text all over again. But thankfully, even though the angel had been defensive, he seemed to actually be listening to everything I said.

Once we ran through the basics a few times, I felt a smirk pull at my lips again.

"Now it's time for the best part!"

I ignored the furrowing of brows and Lucifer hadn't been prepared for when my arm curled around his vessels shoulders pulling him in tight to my side as I lift his phone and a bright flash and a click went off. The angel was looking between the device and me, and he seemed to be unable to decide between figuring out if he should be angry at the touch or curious about the photo.

My thumbs tapped and swiped across his screen with intent as I snickered. When I was done, I turned the screen for him to see. His wallpaper had been changed to the picture I'd just taken. My smile in it was big, stretching across my face while Lucifer was staring at me with shocked and wide eyes.

"There! Now you get to appreciate my 'devilishly' good looks everyday~"

That conflicted expression on his face fell into a bemused stare.

"A bit full of yourself, eh?"

"I get that you're an old man, Luci, but that doesn't mean you have to act like one."

"O-Old!? I am in the prime of my eternity! Thank you very much!"

I waved him off, instead moving the phone so he could see what I was doing as i opened the settings and design menu option. He seemed more interested in this aspect of the phone than the communication side of it. It wasn't all that surprising.

It almost made me excited to move on to the app store~ and all of the things he'd be able to explore. The determined and focused crinkle between his brows gave away exactly how much he was paying attention to what I was showing him.

Honestly, Human hating Fallen angels really shouldn't be this endearing..

Unlocked childhood memory: buying a new game in the store, and then on the drive home, opening up the clamshell case to pull out and read the instruction manual with my brother.
