He shook her hand. “Nice to meet you too.”
‘‘Although, i gotta say, you don’t look like a Nathan.’‘
“You boring, color me surprised.”
‘‘Ha ha.. And you’re hilarious as ever.’‘
“Must have been.Damn, I thought I left that at home.” he said, going along with it, the corner of his mouth perking up a bit. “Well, I’ve had significantly less warm welcomes, so I’d graciously appreciate it.” he retorted with a nod. “True, it’s a tad weird,but I did need some gum.” He smirked as he shrugged. “It could have been code, mais je préfère riens chuchotements doux en français par opposition à l'aide de codes.”
‘‘Yeah, i’ve learned a bit of French, but no need to show off, cuz i understood none of that whatsoever.’‘ she noted with a head shake. ‘‘ I’m Ivy, by the way.’‘ she added as they walked down the street.
“I have to go first??” he laughed a bit “Nathan.” he said with a nod.
‘‘Nice to meet you Nathan.’‘ she said with a smile extending her arm in a greeting. ‘‘ I’m Hayley.’‘
“Oh, the nuance. I simply like my breath to be fresh for a variety of reasons. After all, as alluring as a French accent is, it is all kind of thrown off a bit if my breath smells like French cheese,” he joked. “I mean, I would appreciate it. I’d gladly repay such kindness with drinks and possibly foodstuffs. Well, I’m a foreigner asking people for gum. I’m peculiar all around, really.”
‘‘Oh so that’s it.. It was the cheese i smelled.’‘ she teased. ‘‘ Fine, this will my way of welcoming you into the country. My college is just around the corner, i have the first aid kit in my cabinet, so we can go there.’‘ she said. ‘‘ Asking for gum on the street is weird, someone could think it was a code for something.’‘ she offered with a smile.
“Oh?” he said looking over her shoulder. “So he has. So you’ve known longer than I have and you definitely haven’t introduced yourself. That’s on you.” he laughed.
She opened her mouth to say something, and then closed them again, frowning.’‘ Wel-- You-- Oh shut up.’‘ she said rolling her eyes. ‘‘ I asked you first. You go.’‘
“I should have known.” She teased, before letting out a giggle. “Oh yeah, I bet we do.” Rose joked, as they moved along. Groaning a little, she kept her gaze down for a moment, pretending she was laughing. “H-He’s coming this way..” She warned, before nodding her head towards the bar. “So, before we get into all of that, I say we get some drinks.” She called to the girl as she tried pulling her away from the on coming creep.
As they came to the bar she called the bartender over, and ordered two drinks. ‘‘Well, friend, i hope you like gin cuz that’s what we’re having.’‘ she smiled at the girl. ‘‘He won’t come if he wants to keep his lungs inside of his chest.’‘ she hissed through her teeth. ‘‘I swear to god, i missed the period in time where groping someone without permeation was a common courtesy. And since when ‘no’ means ‘yes’?’‘ she spit furiously.
“Another drink’ll be fine. It’s not gonna kill me.” he laughed a bit. “That’s probably because I didn’t tell you while pretending to be a close friend.” he said not answering her question.
‘‘Splendid.’‘ she grinned. ‘‘Right, but that dick left a while ago, giving you plenty of chance to introduce yourself, granted i could have done the same but that would’ve been too easy.’‘ she returned.
“Now, i never said mints were not a part of my long term plans. It’s just not for breaking hearts, y’see.” he said, smirking a bit as he nodded. “Perhaps, but i don’t know of many doctors or the like. unless you’re offering? I can’t risk an infection or something”
‘‘Oh, the trickery! Do enlighten me then.’‘ she said narrowing her eyes.’‘ Not a doctor per say, but i’ve had some training. And as far as what i’m offering, now i’m not so sure when you told me about your shady plans that involve mints. It’s all so very peculiar.’‘ she hummed.
“Bad influence? Why’s that?” he said shaking his head. “Still you didn’t have to talk to me this long.”
‘‘ All this peer pressure abut drinking, it can’t be good for a man.’‘ she commented. ‘‘ That’s true, but i like you, so it isn’t strange. What is strange is that after spending this much time talking i didn’t catch your name.’‘ she noted with a curious look on her face.
Rose jumped a little when the girl walked up to her, but as her eyes flickered toward the guy behind her, it all made sense. “There you are!” She smiled playfully nudging her shoulder. “I was wondering where you were.” Rose lied as she moved to stand perfectly across from the girl. Lowering her gaze a little, she let out a soft giggle. “I-I think he’s still trying to undress you with this eyes…”
‘‘Darling! I got held up.’‘ she said linking their arms together and pulling her softly along her side, walking a little bit further from the leech of a guy. ‘‘We have so much to talk about!’‘ she said a little louder. Ivy growled ‘‘Yeah, well, he can try until his eyes pop out, it’s not gonna work.’‘
“Hey. I mean. We could still hang out till she gets here if you want.” he said softly. “I get it though if you want to leave I’ve taken up a lot of your time. Nice to meet you.”
‘‘I have a feeling i’m a bad influence on you.’‘ she chuckled. ‘‘ What are you talking about i’m the one who kidnapped you.’‘
“I can hold my drink. I’m just taking a breather.” he shrugged. “I just thought it might be weird for you. You know to sit here with a couple that you’ve only just met. I don’t know. I don’t know if this situation would be weird or not.” he laughed a bit.
‘‘Not weird, but you’re right. I should be going.’‘ she said getting off the stool. ‘‘ Thanks for the rescue! I’ll never forget it.’‘
“Yeah. I’m not gonna quit my day job.” he laughed. He shook his head a bit. “I’m not a heavy drinker. I like having my wits about me normally.” he said shaking his head. “I guess so. Sure.” he laughed shaking his head.
‘‘Neither am I, i just have the ability to hold my drink.’‘ she returned. ‘‘ Uh i mean we don’t have to, if you guys have some other plans of course, i’m not gonna impose, i did just burst into you evening.’‘
“Good. Because I’m not coming on to you either. And then yes. It would be considered a compliment.” he laughed. “Well you know. If they wanted to make a movie about his life and not cast him.” he joked. “I am here to celebrate the end of a very long day doing ver boring work and my very dull job.” he laughed a bit. “And I’m waiting on my girlfriend.” he added.
She laughed ‘‘ I don’t think they’ll make a movie about him. I mean he’s great and all but, not movie great.’‘ she said just as the waiter brought her her drink, and took a sip. ‘‘ Join the club, although i have to say you’re doing it very wrong, you’re glass is empty. Better fix that.’‘ she looked around the club looking for the waiter. ‘‘Awesome, so we can make it a party!’‘ she added with a big grin.
“I mean I said you were pretty, so you can take that how you’d like.” he laughed. “Practically.” he repeated jokingly. “Though then I’d have to have all those little dot things on my face and such. And I think it’d just be easier to get someone who looks and sounds like him.”
‘’To be clear, i’m not coming on to you, but objectively speaking, that would generally be a compliment, just sayin.’’ Ivy commented giving a sharp nod. ‘‘ Or simply get him? I think that would be easier.’‘ she shrugged. ‘‘So what brings you here tonight?’‘ she asked signaling the bartender for another drink.
