“It's not faaaaaaaair!" Pearl slams her cup against the table as she lets out a pathetic whimper. She doesn't miss the way Scar snickers from across the counter and she's almost certain some of her drink has spilt onto the floor, and the table, and her clothes.
But she can't find it in her to care.
“When I was just holding their stuff, it’s called stealing but when heeeee steals something it’s completely fine like I don’t— I don’t get it!"Pearl doesn't bother to restrain her words. The only things running through her mind are the feeling of blood rushing through her veins and the taste of alcohol on her lips, however that doesn't stop Pearl's head from getting lighter by the second.
She's definitely gonna get wasted tonight.
How many drinks has it been? Three? Four?
Whatever— it doesn’t matter. A couple of drink ain’t enough to kill lil ol’ Pearlie. She’s come here way too often for that to happen.
Maybe, a bit too often.
It’s a habit at this point. Whenever life gets too hard, whenever she wants to get away from the crowd, whenever she made a particularly awful decision, or even just when she needs somewhere to let out some steam, she always finds herself back here. Back to the same tavern, sitting at the same seat, ordering the same drink, and talking to the same bartender.
Pearl knows it’s a problem, but when she finally gets that first sip, when she feels the sharp sting of whisky against her tongue and the electrifying warmth pooling her gut, she finds that any of her worries, the big and the small, melt away from the addicting taste. The comfort a good drink makes Pearl think these constant visits are worth it.
Well that, and also...
Um—
"Were you really gonna give it back?" Scar laughs again, but softer this time, the quiet rumble of his voice sending shockwaves through Pearl's brain.
Pearl prepares to reply with a witty response of her own, but Scar leans over to her, his brilliant emerald eyes sparkling with amusement, his lips curving into a familiar coy smile, his breath a few inches away from her face, and Pearl can’t help but freeze.
She stares at him for a little longer.
Has Scar always had such a pretty jawline?
Was the first button of his shirt always open?
How much closer does Pearl need to move in order to close—
Pearl feels something flutter in her stomach.
Butterflies.
The alcohol must be kicking in, it's the only possible reason why Pearl is acting like this.
"A'course I was... I'm not a thief you know." She instead decides to take another sip from her cup and NO— Pearl definitely isn't thinking about how close the bartender's lips were when he was leaning over the counter.
"Right, right." Scar shakes his head before picking up one of the used glasses and bringing it to the sink. Strangely though, the entire time Scar spent cleaning it, running the warm water, scrubbing the surface with soap, letting it dry, he never lets his eyes leave Pearl's face.
Somehow that makes the blush on Pearl's face turn and even bright red than the one on her cloak. (And she certainly doesn't know why)
"Honestly I'm not sure if there's anyone in this town who isn't your enemy."
Pearl raises her voice in offence. "Hey I'm not asking for much! All I'm asking for is someone who’s kind, won't yell at me all the time and will actually listen to me, okay! I just want someone like—"
She stops herself because she finish that sentence. Pearl lifts her head to face Scar.
Scar who is kind to her.
Scar who never yells at her.
Scar who always listens to her.
He stares at her, his gaze filled with a mix of confusion, patients and awe all at once.
Pearl forces her eyes to focus on the drink in front of her. She knows what words will tumble out of her mouth if she dares look back. Thoughts like those are too dangerous to be let out.
"Pearl?" Scar lowers his head to Pearl’s level, his face softening ever so slightly in worry.
She sees his hand slowly creep along the counter to reach her own, but she pull away, opting to hold the handle of her cup instead.
"Nothin— it's nothing. I'm just rambling again, sorry. You have other people to get to, I shouldn't be wasting your time." Pearl hides her head into the table, her messy bangs falling across her face.
She must look atrocious.
But Scar doesn't leave, instead he brushes away the loose locks of hair covering her eyes, letting her face meet his own.
"Come on now. I can handle some chatter every now and again, don't worry. If I couldn't well, I wouldn't be a very good bartender now would I?”
He begins to shift his hands from her bangs carefully until they cup Pearl’s face. His touch so gentle and warm it makes her head spin.
"And besides, why would I ever complain about getting to spend more time with a pretty face like you?"
Pearl cheeks burn against her skin and the her mind becomes even dizzier. She’s not sure how long her mouth stayed agape, but the close proximity certainly isn’t helping.
She’s just drunk, she must be, that’s all!
"Oi mister! You can't go 'round saying stuff like that without buying me a drink first!" She pulls Scar’s hands away from her face, but when her hands are holding his own, her fingers linger for just a moment longer.
"I'm the one who makes your drinks. I'm not gonna give you one for free!" Scar squawks, before snatching Pearl’s drink away from her hands. “In fact, I think you’ve had more than enough drinks for the night!”
Pearl rolls her eyes at him but cracks a smile. "And just when I thought you might be a decent guy..."
"Excuse you?" He gawks at her but the wide eyed smile on his face tells Pearl all she needs to know.
Because of the drink, of course.
She laughs once more. No matter how hard she tries, the butterflies in her stomach can never seem to settle.

I write (and will draw next time) Cleo with a lazy eye, and her hearing is bad in one ear. She’s half corpse after all, not everything is working perfect! I’d imagine in the context of the limited life family dynamic, Scar takes more after his mom while Bdubs looks more like their dad. Because Cleo’s nerves and tendons are dead, the parts of her code that she gave Scar DO NOT work. Because of this, he has to use wrist crutches and has a permanent limp, as well as the same lazy eye as her <3
Bdubs on the other hand is Ethos darling boi! I’d imagine after Scar the marriage was rocky, (he’s the older brother) and they had Bdubs to try to fix the marriage. (it didn't work at all lol).
Unlike Scar, who hates Etho for leaving, Bdubs imprinted hard on his father and keeps trying to get him to love him enough to come home.
And Etho cant do it. He can't live with Cleo and Scar. But he doesn’t have custody, so he can't really stay with Bdubs either. He found his new family in TIES, and he leaves having Bdubs with him as a dream.
I think when he blew up the children, CPS was called, or the life series equivilant which is just Scott in a shirt that says responsible adult on it.
Scott looks as the charred little boys and decides Etho gets weekend visits regardless lmao
Okay, tango has been rattling around in my brain all day, so I decided to dump my headcannons on you all at once.
.Tango was born in the nether, and he was meant to spawn in as a full blaze. Most hybrids are made because player code was scrambled with a mob, but tango was made because mob code scrambled with a player. He’s mostly isolated from the other nether creatures because of this, and he spends a lot of time messing with strage objects he finds around the edges of the lava lakes. (These are items players have left in the nether.)
Eventualy, he see’s a player go through a portal, and decides to follow him. It… does not go well. He gets about the reaction if any nether mob came through the portal, immediate panic. He burns down a few buildings, and the people on the server spray him down with a hose until all his fire goes out. Ufortuantly, a netherborne cant live long without their flames.
.Hermitcraft is a home for hybrids and refugees that wouldnt be welcome elsewhere, like vexes, watchers, zombie hybrids, ect. Impulse was out on a trip, and finds tango, clearly dying. Without the fire, he cant tell what hybrid tango is, but he’s sure x could figure it out, and he cant just leave him here. Impulse carries him back to hermitcraft, where x identifes him as a blazeborn nether hybrid, with a few creatures mixed in. they slowly nurse him back to heath, and by the time he’s better, all the hermits are attached to the little guy.
I also think he was entirely noverbal when they found him. Blazes speak through a series of hisses and sparks, along with shapes made in their fire. The first time tango tried to say thank you, he burnt all of skizz’s arm hair off lol. This means he still associates his tone of voice with fire, and he will imediatly spark up or die down based on his emotions. Also, because he learned playerspeak later in life, he doesnt fully understand it and will still mess up grammer or make up words like ifficator.
Impulse has to teach him how to talk, and what is and isnt respectable as a player. Tango isnt quite a player, but he’s eager to learn their lifestyle. Thats also when he learns that burns hurt. He’s horrifed when he learns all the damage he did, and the others gently reassure him none of it is his fault.
netherborns are entirly axsexual, and so is tango. He isnt aromatic thogh, while other blazes are, so ranchers is safe :DDD
