I have my own frustrations and problems with the kliego fandom, and I'm in it, but overall I've blocked out the intense haters.
With something like Tua there's a clash of views on whether the academy are siblings or not. Some people, who ship them, realise that their situation is highly irregular and can't be compared to how conventional families work, and that each member views the others in different ways (Luther loving Allison, while seeing Vanya as a sister for example). And then theres the people who think it's gross or think we're saying adopted families aren't real somehow, which isn't what we're saying at all.
I've reached a point in my life, after real world experience and health fears, that now I'm just like YEAH WHATEVER. Rise above my friend and enjoy what you want to enjoy, we can have fun in our corner and phase out the side that are deliberately twisting everyone to make us seem like demons lmao.
I hope you're able to enjoy the fandom and the show, and that That side isn't going to ruin it for you 💘
The tua fandom as a whole is just full of gatekeepers and I’m really starting to hate it.
There's always going to be people who think they have ownership over a medium that's literally designed to be shared.
In the Tua fandom in particular there are a lot of people who fixate on one interpretation and hate on anyone who disagree. Normally that would just be regular fandom bullshit, but you can't live and let live when that interpretation is so grossly fixed on racist and hypersexual tropes.
Diego is a big target in this fandom. Almost entirely by people who think they're stanning him too. They THINK they're his biggest fans, when in reality they're reducing him to stereotypes that have nothing to do with his actual personality. It happens a lot when people get carried away with their own thirst for characters. Conversely, Klaus was instantly made into the fandom baby, which was bad news for Diego: these gate keeping people seem to think Diego HAS to be some overbearing and violent dom to Klaus, who's always a bratty uwu sub. Kliego is my OTP but damn it's difficult when fandom Klaus is so toxic to fandom Diego, in a way that canon Klaus is not. Because fans have turned them both into caricatures that write Diego off awfully.
The only way to improve this is to draw attention to it and explain why it's wrong, and I totally understand anyone who's too tired of that bullshit to do that anymore. It's exhausting repeating yourself to people who honestly believe they're in the right when it comes to how this fandom and it's characters are portrayed.
I'm not sure if this is an ask about those people, specifically the recent gatekeeping about whether Diego is "allowed" to be sub to a dom Klaus, or if you're saying I'm gatekeeping but either way I'm not offended or upset. Either way I'm still going to make as many posts of varying eloquence about how the Tua fandom, the Kliego fandom specifically too, treat Diego and infantise/idolise Klaus to Diego's detriment.
If I am gatekeeping then I've no intention of stopping because racism and fetishization of gay men shouldn't be allowed anywhere.
I hope you're able to enjoy tua because it's a fantastic and refreshing take on a currently overused superhero trope, and people being bigots have no right to take that away from you. I'd recommend blocking particular tags and distancing yourself for a month or a few weeks, then do what I do: binge watch, remember what I love about it and crash back into the fandom like whatup bitchin gatekeeper bet you thought you'd seen the last of me!!!!
