an interesting linguistics find! so I'm reading this text from 1908 and it keeps referencing "hp" in the context of "not being at full hp" "applying your full hp to a task" etc
and I'm like....... okay that is a perfectly normal way to describe energy and reads totally clear to me, but I KNOW you don't mean hit points/health points which is the first place my brain goes, so what are YOU using hp to mean
and it's not explained in-text, which means it was common enough to not warrant explanation to the 1908 audience, so gotta look elsewhere

[GDCG] The Meaning Behind Supernatural Disaster Management Bureau's Agent Names
In GDCG, the Bureau's agents all have agent names (such as Bronze).
According to Ryu Jaekwan in ep 75, they usually use names of historical objects, because using non-everyday language makes it easier to distinguish them.
Here are the objects used in the names of the agents (~ ep 251).

Cheongdong (= Bronze) (Ryu Jaekwan)
-> Presumably comes from Bronze Age. No explanation needed, I think.
Hwagak (Jang Heoun)
-> Traditional craft art made using cow horns. Used in palace furniture, etc,.
Bakha (= Mint) (Go Yeongeun)
-> According to Yeongeun herself, mint was traditionally used as medicine.
Podo (= Grape) (Kim Soleum)
-> We all know where this one came from. Neither historical nor particularly Korean, haha.
Haegeum
-> Traditional Korean musical instrument.
Gomyeong
-> Specific name for garnish used in Korean food. When you hear gomyeong, most Koreans will picture something like the pic below. (The stuff on the top of the noodles)
Sumaksae
-> On the image below, the circular thing at the edge of the roof.

With Rhaena, I'm on the fence. To me, it makes sense that she'd look that rough because she's in a situation where she doesn't know what to do and with no one to stand with her. Cutting off her locs to hide her white hair makes sense, especially because no one is maintaining all that on the run. But it does seem like she's being placed into harder circumstances than her combo of characters implies she should be, in a way her white counterparts just... Aren't. They've made Alicent far kinder, apparently!
And as for Louis, Claudia, and Armand? Yeah. The Islamophobia with Armand? Check. The antiblackness with Louis? Check. A white woman being the author of this last episode and how it is clear that she was having so much fun with the violence that she clearly did not consider (or maybe even just believes in) what this all looks like? Check!!! Like I said. It all passes far beyond a lack of intent, and pours all into blatant disregard and disrespect.

Like obviously when we see the retcons in Batgirl year one, this occurs. With Steph as well... And then in another way with Cass, where she doesn't get a civilian identity? Or when we see him bully Helena out of the mask in no man's land??? And almost every time he has one of his boys at his side assisting him
Like obviously a man so concerned with his own secret identity is going to view identity and knowledge about it as having power & he just does not hesitate to wield it against women in particular as a means of coercion
Working on posts (multiple, somehow…. Very long and hard to word posts...) tangentially related to this and I would like to highlight how absolutely telling it is that in ch 353, Soleum thinks about Looky Mart
Analysis of like 6 lines from chapter 353. Ty to xar for bringing this to my attention !
On the first read, I didn’t think too much about it because well, yeah, it is an example of Choi doing risky things at cost of himself, for the sake of other people. (I kind of think fandom and maybe also Soleum misperceive why Choi went up, but I’ll make separate post on this topic later).
But it’s of a weird example. Soleum has known our Choi for a while now, and has personally experienced a bunch of times when Choi did risky things that can be seen as walking into a death trap. For example, isn’t 242, when Choi is ready to sacrifice an unknown thing for the sake of impulsive revenge, a very good example of “walking into a death trap?” More than that, Choi was pretty ready to sacrifice himself a multitude of times, very directly offering to go into a death trap! But instead of thinking of any of those times, Soleum thinks about Looky Mart. An incident that didn’t happen to our Choi. An incident that, honestly, we don’t even know if our Choi would have done, considering [end of part 2 spoilers] and how it affected the timeline
most importantly, Looky Mart happened in the ch130s. This is chapter 353. This is over 200 chapters later, and Soleum’s first thought is Looky Mart. That’s strange, isn’t it? Also, from my impression, Soleum doesn’t usually bring up entries like this; in fact, I don’t know if he’s even brought up an entry when it’s not relevant, much less think of an entry again.
I don’t know if I know Soleum enough to do a break down but I’ll point out what I find interesting about it. As always, I’ll make my points in numbers for the sake of easier discussion, if anyone desire to discuss
0. This is a reactionary thought. It’s not like the conversation was about this topic. In fact, Looky Mart isn’t actually related to the actual topic; the topic was on “relied on small clues to to attempt escape methods.” Looky Mart was not an escape method, escape is never mentioned, —only exploration— in the record (136). Choi didn’t go up looking for escape. Soleum knows all this. This means Soleum isn’t using Looky Mart to really make an argument, he thinks of it by reflex when Choi mentions “walking straight into a death trap”.
the fact that Soleum thinks of it as “walking into a death trap” is interesting. It’s not wrong, but it does ignore any of the reasons/considerations of why DER Choi did it.
the fact that it’s a reactionary thought and that he thinks of it months and months later shows how important this is to him? Of all the incidents that Soleum has seen involving Choi, he thinks of this, from before he met Choi. Of course, it is an incident where Choi ‘died’, and that might be the reason why he thinks of it.
He’s convinced that our Choi would up gone up, if it weren’t for him. “If the timeline hadn’t changed… you would have been the agent”. I cant word it but he’s oddly convinced that our Choi would have done the same as DER Choi, even though by now Soleum should know that DER isn’t the end all be all, and there are things behind it that he doesn’t know. But, it is true that at this point, he doesn’t have info that we/he learns by the very end of part 2.
There’s a sense of belief that Soleum ‘saved’ Choi, as indicated by the “timeline changed when I cleared Looky Mart.” Soleum doesn’t usually like to acknowledge his effect on people’s lives, so I find this a bit notable.
He also doesn’t like thinking about how he’s affected people’s lives, outside of the fulfillment he gets from it (this is my impression, not a fact). So the fact that he’s taking responsibility for the clear is? Interesting? It also wasn’t like a ‘when Agent Bronze and I’. I’m not sure how often Soleum takes responsibility for clears, so this point could honestly be absolutely nothing.
soleum’s blood boiling. It could be a reaction to the argument but it could also be a reaction to thinking about Looky Mart, which is interesting. If that’s the case then, wow, Soleum takes that record pretty personally, doesn’t he? Especially cause, it’s not like he gets angry very often. This does track with the vague impression of him not liking that record, tho (forgot what chapter this is mentioned)
I’ve lowk just danced around the point so just to say it, it gives me the vague impression that Soleum thinks of our Choi and DER Choi as one as the same, which isn’t necessarily correct? It’s not completely wrong but I don’t think it’s right. This might also hint at Soleum’s perception of Choi, which isn’t our Choi or DER Choi (working on a post about this, will eventually link when I finish)
of everything they’ve been through and everything Choi has done, Soleum thinks of Looky Mart. I basically said this earlier but this is different,,, I’m not sure how to word it. But, like, R.I.P. Choi if, after everything, Soleum still thinks of him as a ‘character’.
tbh I feel like there are some points I’m failing to grasp but my mind’s gears aren’t running as smoothly as I’d like, and I feel like I’ve at least gotten my point across of how interesting the scene is? Just to cover my bases, I’d like to note that even though I wrote so much on this, it’s fully possible that Soleum thinks of it because it’s a ‘real’ incident where Choi ‘died’, and Soleum has historically cared a lot about the cast dying, hence the dramatic reaction. Haha, who knows if we’ll ever know for sure?
