thoughts about the rc being gatekeepers, like literally
the outside looks like the opposite of the inside situation, it looks bright and flashy and very welcoming of outsiders, looks like its doing well. someone else pointed out that they are giving away food freely despite there being a food shortage of some kind experienced on the inside
and on the inside it looks so rundown and obviously not just anyone can get in. its the place where bankokugai's population actually lives, and if the rc can control who gets in, thats tight control over that whole area i think
that coupled w the kids at the dojo being so eager to join such a group and training from a young age to contribute to something of such a scale is concerning for me. like it could be argued that oh furin does the same thing but it doesn't, not exactly. furin is more like a loose voluntary group that performs odd jobs here and there for the people of makochi and like. fights obvious enemies. not trying to diminish what they do, but a lot of it is relatively not as complex i think
the rc seems like something involved in deeper matters, so i do feel iffy about kids having such aspirations, esp because of suos expression here. also the huge glaring fact that suo already holds a position despite only being 15
when outsiders come knocking, i do think its hostile to turn them away, without asking further questions even if they're concerned about security. like sure they dont owe them anything but it does say something about the way they run things there? also maybe it suggests that the inner members seem to remain inside bankokugai without leaving;
because the place suo seemed to be patrolling looks like the inner areas, the surroundings look similarly rundown
so like idk theyre literally gatekeeping the people and the place inside; the entrances are literally hidden, and idk to what end. they dont owe information to anyone but they are actively making sure information doesnt get out, and theres a difference between those two things i think. also, might i add that this makes them very different from furin literally yelling out their motto in an open street
it feels like almost paranoia for me, and i wonder what could've created such a situation for that kind of mentality to develop. like, how to say, i dont like how the rc does things but they obviously have their reasons to doing things this way
oh yeah and a part of this is under the assumption that they dont know who the furin group is (even if they were waving around suo wearing the furin uniform lmao) id be surprised if they knew already cuz suo seemed to have hidden all that from most people, i do think rakta knows who they are though
i dont feel comfortable to really say more than this cuz we dont have that much information so yeah its just rambles based off literally like three chapters lmaoo so its not like a hard stuck opinion i have, just that im lowkey scared of the rc,,, very curious about how they work. to be clear, i dont even think anything so far suggests that they are even morally grey ? like just. damn theyre strict as hell and i wonder why
theres the whole thing about the possibility of children going missing too, which i am very scared of, and its not fair to make any guesses as to why that's happening, i think
also the comparisons with furin that i made isn't me being like "oh they should be more like furin", cuz thats a stupid thing to say, even if i personally find one to be more likable. the situation of bankokugai is much more complex than makochi, and yeah the differences are interesting cuz themes and such
its interesting that this is another city that doesnt mind sakuras external appearance, and is being generally quite accepting of outsiders and giving them food v makochi vibes
next chapter may be called expedition apparently and all i can think about is the benny hill theme playing when furin 6 minus suo run around bankokugai
I've seen a couple of posts raising the Extremely Valid Point that while class 1-1 is riled up on Nirei's behalf, Nirei is actually the one who started the fight with Suo—even when Suo repeatedly tried to walk away. but I think it's also important to remember that Suo could have ended the fight a lot sooner, without hurting Nirei nearly as much. he could have knocked him unconscious the second Nirei got a hit in. I don't know why he didn't, but I'm tempted to believe it's because he wanted the rest of Furin to be angry enough to not ask questions, to hate him and let him go. obviously, all his classmates can see is that he beat the tar out of Nirei when they all KNOW he didn't need to.
(I think it's great that there's so much conversation about this btw!! this entire arc, starting with Suo vs Nirei, is all about deeply nuanced, deeply impactful interpersonal conflict, where there's no easy answers—especially when, thanks to Suo's secretiveness, no one's sure what questions they should be asking)
okay I lied one more thing before I go. Sugishita is the best character to feature in this arc bc it is an incredibly nuanced emotional situation. but not to him. mostly bc the one (1) time Sugishita met a nuanced emotional situation he decided he never wanted to be involved in one again. and that's the balance Sakura really needs rn okay bye
would be interesting if suo has no central abuse figure ngl like hes just systematically fucked, kinda like sakura now that i think about it i know his dad sucked ass but its really everyone in his story that let him down

idk they look visually great together, esp due to the fact that they dyed their hair for some kind of transformation, i feel like their personalities match quite well and they balance out well cuz kiryu would be the type to go along w nirei if he were like energetic about something even if he complained a bit, and kiryu would be relaxed if nirei was Stressed;
but he would still be empathetic to him, and when i think about how kiryu is a little withdrawn when it comes to his curiosity and that contrasts with how much of an information seeker nirei is, and they both like adjacent fashion styles, they're both probably great texters too, they'd both be so healthy oh my god, like kiryu is the right amount of reserved by receptive to nirei's curiousity in My Eyes, and they both wouldn't let the other get away with negative coping mechanisms or call the other out when they're being stupid
and and when kiryu didn't take nirei seriously at first during the bridge thing but then he kinda gives affirmation by saying "im not gonna be beat so easily" to nirei, sgahahsjshsjjjaaaaaaaaaah why did i decide to like them now. lmao

guys. uh. okay, so suo being in a position of immense pressure and responsibility unbefitting of his age is something that the entire fandom and the manga agrees with, okay? nobody's saying otherwise, but, uh.
do we even know if being an officer = being one of the 3 leaders of rc?
like, all of the fics I've seen so far involving suo's probable backstory put suo as the successor of one of the three leaders but there's also the likelihood that being an officer is just about one or two levels lower than the three heads in terms of authority. i mean, bankoku-gai is a whole city with 80 years of history so I like to think there is still??? a bigger hierarchy of authority??? there's no way it's just student -> teacher (?) -> officer/head, right??? idk, is it just me?
(also there's no way the silhouette's we were shown when we were first given the rc lore dump aren't gonna show up in the story, right? maybe they're representative of the original three heads but there's always the chance that they're the current three heads, yknow?)
