It is strange for me to say that If I were to die today There’s not a thing I would change I’ve lived well
Maybe I have made mistakes and been through my fair share of pain But all in all, it’s been okay, I’ve lived well
And then, mercifully, she got exactly what she wanted. Just like always.

“Sometimes you want to feel something other than the numbness.”
“You’re a genius! I swear I have an easy bake oven lying around somewhere at home. This is the most amazing, best idea ever! Why are you getting all swimmy?”
“Uh- I don’t know.” He looked down at himself, feeling his torso as if to check that it was still in place. “I don’t feel swimmy... You okay, hun?”
“And he never grows up.” She added with a smile. “I can see why you chose it; he fits you too. Boy on a quest to stay young and carefree.” He had to know that there was more to Peter Pan than that, but it wasn’t a requirement to put deep thought into Disney. “And you’re right, I do read quite a bit. Or I did. I’m trying to substitute books for human interaction these days. Am I doing alright?”
“Better than alright,” He assured her. “You’re a natural.” It seemed odd to him that such a well-spoken, beautiful girl would need to force herself to be social. He wondered if she, like her princess of choice, stuck her nose in a book to avoid her reality. He wondered if thinking this made him like the ponytailed douchebag who had assumed that a woman couldn’t simply enjoy reading. “What inspired the change?” He asked, genuinely curious.
Another laugh left his lips, surprising him. It was rare for Liam to be in such a good mood, no doubt the result of what he’d already taken. “Good to know I made a good purchase,” he replied. He mimicked Jace’s action, feeling the effects almost immediately. He knew it was a bad idea to mix drinks and a worse idea to mix drugs, but he couldn’t bring himself to care. “Damn, that is good.”
Jace nodded enthusiastically, a pleasant buzzing building in his chest and spreading outwards. “Hey,” He said with a sly grin, “What does coke make you feel like?” He paused for what felt to him like ages, but was in reality closer to an instant. “It makes you feel like more coke!” He clapped Liam’s shoulder with his hand, laughing, before scooping up another bump with his thumb and inhaling deeply.

“Cooper Addison, je t’adore. Now can we please go cause some trouble, or do you wanna keep talking about caressing dogs?”
liebronson:
“Nothing to thank me for. It’s true.” Following his lead, she had asked the bartender for another shot as well. She considered his words before shrugging her shoulders. They didn’t have to agree on everything. “Because sometimes you want to feel something other than the numbness, I think that’s pretty clear. At least to me it is. The Jack is a distraction, but it can’t be one forever.” Despite her words, she still tipped the shot back. Of all the things she said she wasn’t, she never claimed to not be a hypocrite.
“Yeah, well... Call me Roger Waters, then. Because I have become,” He drummed his his hands on the bar for added effect, the lop-sided grin plastered on his face giving his joke away before he’d even gotten it out, “...Comfortably numb.” He nudged her with his elbow a couple times, but softened as he watched her down another shot like it was nothing, dropping his usual pretense of stupid jokes and apathy. He took a swig of his new drink and smiled at her wearily. “What do you wanna feel, darlin’?”

She almost scoffed at his optimism. Even if the face of faux death, he still managed to not freak out. Almost impressive, really. But she had the part to play, the damsel. And it was one she’d been playing almost her entire life. Sylvia nodded in an attempt to stay in character, carefully thinking out her answer.
“But what if—what if we don’t?” Her voice cracked at the last word. “We don’t know when it’s coming back or if there are others.” She bit her lip in a false attempt to keep from crying. It was something she’d mastered a long time ago. She’d become good at pretty crying, a few tears and a quivering lip had gotten her all sorts of things in the past. Now that was coming in handy to portray the frightened girl she was supposed to be.
Sylvia shook her head after testing her restraints again. “Not even a little.” After this, she really was going to need a long, hot shower and a soft bed. Apparently faking a kidnapping took a lot of a girl. Who knew? “Jace, what are we going to do?”
“Don’t think about that,” He replied resolutely. Jace was an expert at not thinking. He didn’t think about his bills or his health or his grades. He didn’t think about how far it was to the ground or how cold the water would be or how far over the speed limit he was driving. He could not think about some psychopath all day. Easy.
He struggled at his ropes for a few minutes longer, until he was pretty sure he’d broken skin. He swore under his breath. “Me neither.”
He closed his eyes in thought, momentarily letting the dark and the pulsing pain wash over him again. “Okay,” He said suddenly, opening them, “Okay. Plan B.” He started to rock his body gently, building up a subtle momentum. “Try to rock your chair. You wanna fall hard enough to damage it, but not hard enough that you can’t get back up. Okay?”
He gave her what he hoped was a reassuring look and leaned more heavily into the movement, feeling the feet of the chair start to lift under him.

Krista Kyle, 45
Jace inherited a lot of things from his mother; They both talk too much in movies, and in general. They both forget their mistakes too quickly to feel the sting of regret, and too quickly to learn from them. They both use sex as a commitment-free substitute for love. They’re both frail but spirited addicts, with big hearts and a losing streak. They will both die far younger than they deserve to.
Represented by Calista Flockhart.
Pete Walker, 57
For a brief period twenty-something years ago, before he lost what little charm he had, Krista slept with fat Pete Walker from down the road. Growing up, Jace never thought much about him (or his son, who was two grades below Jace in school), save for him being a bitter old man who never amounted to anything. Pete is not stupid, but chooses not to mention Krista’s boy having his sad eyes. That suits her just fine.
Represented by Paul Giamatti.
Jason ‘Jace’ Kyle Sr, Imaginary
The way Krista tells it, Jace was truly something special. A genuine rebel and a gentleman outlaw in a time when they had all but gone extinct. They had a whirlwind romance and were married within a month. Tragedy struck when Johnny Law came to town, hunting Jace for a murder he didn’t commit and a robbery he probably did. He left Krista a letter explaining that he loved her too much to put her in any more danger, and was gone before he even knew he had a son.
Jace tends to imagine him like Dallas Winston.
Jason ‘Jace’ Kyle Jr, 23
Jace loves his mother more than anything, and strives to live up to his father’s name. He lives his life in a way that would make them, a pair of white-trash troublemakers, proud. He hopes to one day settle down with a nice (but not too nice) girl and start a family of his own. If he had a boy, he’d name him Jace as well, so that if Jace Sr ever came back, he’d know his son had kept his legend alive.
Played by Kyle Gallner.

“Is it cliche to say Beauty and the Beast? I promise it’s not just because she’s French. I happen to like the story very much.” She was relieved to change topics so quickly, being in a mass grave was enough death for the night. “And you? What yours?”
“It’s not cliche, it’s fitting. You’re all good and pretty like Belle. I bet you read a lot, too.” He wasn’t sure what gave him that impression, but it seemed to fit in well with her quiet, cautious manner. After some thought, he silently noted to himself that Belle didn’t have a mother, either. “I always liked Peter Pan,” he countered. “Gets to just chill out all day with his best friend, fight pirates and hit on mermaids and shit. He’s got it all figured out.”

She almost smiled at the remark. At least he wasn’t freaking out like she would have been in his position. Sylvia was again surprised by his calm considering what had happened, though she supposed some of it could simply be delirium from being hit so hard. She’d hate if all of this were for nothing. At the very least, she wanted a nice adrenaline rush out of this. So far, she hadn’t been disappointed.
“At the end of the tunnel, that thing was waiting.” She shuddered, remembering the sound of Jace’s body hitting the floor. “He, it, whatever hit you. I thought you were dead.” Sylvia had to admit, she had been actually worried when he’d been hit. Hits that hard could easily kill a person; she’d been relieved to see his chest moving then and to see he was still himself now. She didn’t want to be charged with murder for a simple prank, even if it had gone further than she’d ever expected.
She shook her head at the question, acting as though she needed a chance to remember it. “They said they were going to kill us,” she whispered, letting a tear streak its way down her face. “They said they had to take care of a few things, but they’d be back for us. And then we were going to die.”
He listened to her carefully, more carefully than he’d listened to any teacher in his seventeen years of education. Despite what they all thought of themselves, not one of them had ever said anything as important as this. Nothing that his life depended on.
He licked his dry lips, finding a warm, metallic flavour. He must have split them open when he fell. He wondered how many other minor injuries he was missing, drowned out by the feeling in his head.
Even that feeling seemed to become insignificant as Sylvia went on. And then we were going to die. “Hey,” He said softly, “Hey- Don’t cry, okay?” But tears welled in his own eyes as he said it. He wished he could wipe them away. “Look, we ain’t dead yet. All we gotta do is get the fuck out of here before he- it, whatever- gets back. That’s it.”
He strained against his ropes in vain. “You got any slack?”
kirbymcadams:
“I know, you’re not a complete asshole. I hate cops, they ruin all the fun. Can you do that? Like a weed brownie but a donut? I don’t even know how to make donuts…”
“Can’t be that hard, right? They’re just deep fried dough... We could get one of those machines like at the fair. You know, the ones like a lil’ donut factory? We’d make a killing.”
jacquelinesylvian:
“No it’s okay, it’s been a year I can’t be stuck in one spot forever. You couldn’t have known about her, just like I hadn’t known about your father. I’m sorry about that. It’s his loss, completely.” There was nothing they could do here at the party, so she tried to shake it off. “I know how to bring down a mood, don’t I? Sorry about that. Ask me something simple, I’ll have a much better answer. My favorite color is dusk rose, and I drink hot chocolate too much.”
He chuckled awkwardly, thankful for the change in direction. He was shit with serious stuff. It was so much easier to laugh things off than to actually deal with them. “Don’t be sorry, I brought it up in the first place.” He had a habit of sticking his foot in his mouth, offending modest sensibilities, salting fresh wounds. It was the price he paid to maintain his laid-back, affable demeanour. “What’s, uh... What’s your favourite Disney movie?”
So you will rot in the ground, and so you say, what the hell? Who cares? But you care, and somehow you don’t want to live just one life.
