I agree so much with your post about Shauna seeing Jackie’s ghost! I don’t think i’ve seen someone share that idea before that the mean girl version of Jackie was in Shauna’s head before (then again i’m not online very much) i’ve always thought the same! The version of Jackie in Shauna’s head is so different to how Jackie was when she was alive because of Shauna’s sort of skewed perception because she’s so sensitive she can take things the wrong way but won’t communicate with anyone about it so she takes the idea and runs with it whether or not there’s evidence to support it. i wanted them to touch on this in season three. Shauna’s stuck in her own head! i think the times in season three where Jackie’s ghost said things blaming Shauna for her death were just Shauna’s own guilt manifesting coming out of Jackie’s mouth because she knows what happened was messed up but it’s easier for her to remember Jackie as a mean person because the guilt would be too great if she remembered her how she really was.

Sorry if this doesn’t make sense i’m not great at writing my thoughts and sorry for the random paragraph i’m just excited that somebody else thinks this way about Jackie’s ghost and Shauna’s perception not really being based in reality! I think about this a lot and i like your posts!

i definitely agree that shauna has a nasty habit of taking things the wrong way, or not voicing how upset she is about something, and then getting even more upset when the other person (jackie) continues to do it—even though the other person (jackie) had no way of knowing that it was a problem at all (like when shauna gets mad at jackie for calling her "shipman" in the supermarket dream scene)

what’s even worse is that this is preciselyyyy what killed jackie. i don’t know what the fuck shauna was hiding from jackie, whether it was love, jealousy, or a secret third thing (both)… but she told jackie FUCKALL. jackie had NO IDEA that shauna was going through The Horrors. every single problem that shauna had with their relationship was just SO pent up and private. like it was festering inside of her and became a problem only to her. and it was too much. her hatred for soccer. not wanting to go to rutgers. whatever the fuck was going on with jeff. it all seemed to come out only in their final argument. and if shauna had just brought it up in a healthy way like Hey jackie i don’t like this but its not like you have to go sleep outside and be literally Banished over it… then maybe jackie wouldn’t have died. like, jesus christ.

what’s difficult is that all of the things that shauna was upset about really paint jackie in a bad light. it is especially difficult, as viewers, to decide whether it was jackie having no idea about it, or jackie just being a bad friend. in my opinion, jackie could have been more considerate of what shauna wanted, but if shauna was pretending that she DID want all of those things (as we saw she was doing—nodding in the car about rutgers’ sororities, laughing along with jackie about her fantasies, screaming in celebration after a game winning goal.), then rightfully, jackie had no reason to believe otherwise.

anyway, i don’t think that this alone makes shauna a bad person, (she is a bad person for other reasons ♥️) i just think it is a toxic mental process that she needed to get over. seemingly, in the later timeline, she has in fact gotten better at voicing her anger—at the expense of literally everyone else! so, good for her🥰!!

IF ghost jackie is real, and not just shauna hallucinating, i think we have only seen her once.

and it was during this scene.

she wasn’t taunting shauna. she wasn’t tormenting any of her friends. she was just trying to warn shauna, "someone might get hurt." which is just like who jackie really was; a team captain looking out for everyone, and more importantly, shauna’s best friend.

i love the idea of jackie haunting shauna, and it’s undeniable that she does, however… i don’t think it is literally her spirit doing so. most ghost jackie scenes could be interpreted as manifestations of shauna’s guilt, in that the idea of jackie, along with everything that happened, is what’s haunting her. like she deserves it, and jackie ought to be cruel. this makes sense, because hostility just seems to be how shauna handles and processes things.

but the truth is, jackie was never the mean girl that everyone made her out to be. sure, she had her petty moments, especially in that fight scene with shauna, but the only reason why that even happened was because she cared so much. it wasn’t because she was trying to hurt shauna, or be mean. in fact, the meanest thing she could say was a quote from a movie, because she genuinely didn’t have that kind of meanness inside of her. even after everyone in her life let her down.

the worst part is that as she was dying, literally all she wanted was for shauna to go out there and bring her back inside. her final thoughts were everyone being together and shauna saying that they were best friends.

she didn’t hate shauna. she loved her. the way i see it, jackie would never taunt shauna the way ghost jackie does. she would never choke her friends. she was genuinely just a teenaged girl who lost everything she cared about.
