opinion: I think more contemporary poets should practice writing formal and structured poetry. Not because it's inherently superior to non-structured poetry, mind you, but because one of the best exercises you can do for your creativity is see what kinds of things you can create when given a limitation.

Sometimes it feels like Tumblr is the only social media type site I use with an algorithm that doesn't keep pushing the "most popular" content on my page.

I actually have to put effort into TikTok actually keeping me on the sides of TikTok I actually want because the algorithm keeps insisting that I would prefer something that millions of people have viewed than the kind of content that I, as an individual, prefer.

But on Tumblr? Honey I could not tell you what the majority of people are doing on here. All I'm getting is hellenic polytheism, dark academia aesthetic, and poetry. Love it here.

yknow, if I can be real & autistic for a second, the idea that jokes stop being funny once you explain them has never made sense to me. like yeah I... guess... but like also. no. idk man I think it depends

honestly i think the reason why so many people think that explaining jokes ruins them is that for some reason, they find it amusing that they were smart enough to figure out the joke, and they lose that brief sense of superiority once the joke becomes accessible to others.

i think it’s just human nature to find little reasons to take pride in yourself, and granted, we are talking about a relatively innocuous situation here (most of the time), but SOME people are so determined to gatekeep a punchline that it’s almost like they think their ability to “get” jokes is some sort of sacred ability that no one should mimic. c’mon, aren’t there better ways to feel good about yourself than excluding everyone from the ability to (checks notes) instantly understand a joke’s punchline?

if you genuinely are mad at people explaining a joke, you are taking the joke far too seriously.

Does anyone here on Tumblr read short stories? I’m wondering if it might be worth it to post some of my stories on here, and honestly, getting professionally published at this point seems like more trouble than it's worth for me.
