sometimes I’m reminded that there are still people who don’t know ao3 was literally created by incest shippers — and the site’s sole purpose is to 1. be completely against censorship and 2. host all kinds of dark, taboo fics that are banned on other platforms — and the first ever fic that was posted on ao3 was a fic about an incest ship from supernatural.

you are in the house that was created by freaks. for freaks (affectionate). every disgusting thing you can think of is rightfully allowed and welcomed on ao3, because they are exactly the reasons why ao3 was created in the first place.

ao3 was created because its creators got tired of censorship, they got tired of dark and taboo fics getting banned on pro-censorship platforms, and they wanted a place that was safe for ALL FICS THAT WERE DARK AND TABOO.

ao3’s main principle is being against censorship and being proship / profic.

there are some things in fiction that make me uncomfortable, but instead of shaming people who are just minding their own business and not harming anyone in real life, I choose to curate my own internet experience by blocking/muting what I don’t want to see. ao3 has excellent tagging system, so instead of being a bitch, use their tagging system properly and you won’t see the things you don’t want to see.

it’s your job to curate what you see. it’s not other people’s jobs or responsibilities to censor themselves for your personal comfort. the world does not revolve around you.

also you cannot censor “only the things you personally hate” without expecting everything else, that isn’t of conservative beliefs, to be censored too. because censorship is a slippery slope and a fascist tool. I promise you there are people who think “why do tags for queer love even exist on ao3? they’re grooming children”.

if you allow the things that you hate to be censored — because someone with enough power gets to control what other people can and cannot create/consume, it will not stop at the things that you hate.

I kinda love how, when the art style is different enough from the show, you can easily mistake the visuals of mudermedia (alive/human Vox/Alastor) with Hannigram (Hannibal/Will).

Only, the pretty boy with curly hair is the gentleman canabalistic serial killer in Hazbin. Yes, he's partially based off Hannibal.

Sadly, one of the reasons this knowledge is not more commonplace is because of the American education system. I dunno how much it's gotten better or worse in thr last several decades (better, then worse, in some cases) but US history is often whitewashed in public education.

I'll leave you to do your own research on this front, but please remember than any rights for people of colour, women, let alone anyone LGBT+ pretty much did not exist a century ago, and your parents or grandparents (unless white male) faced systemic prejudice.

For black men in the south, that was particularly opressive and violent.

Alastor is not a good person. He was a sadistic killer cannibal in life and death, but he does seem to target those with power. Rich, racist, white men to overlords.

Hannibal muse is waking up again.

I have had part of a chapter sitting for a while. I plan to at least post the first half, which took like 4 rewrites, but now just needs a tweak or two. The second half is a skeleton, but maybe, just maybe.

How did I wake up my Hannibal muse again? Mostly thanks to Linkin Park's most recent album, "The Emptiness Machine".

Yup. When I first listened to it, I saw the Hannigram flavour immediately, but I was too depressed/submersed in Hazbin Hotel. I still am fixated on Hazbin, but that muse is trying to build something I'm not ready to tackle.

What songs in particular, no one asked? (These, but not exclusively.)

1) The titular Emptiness Machine speaks to my fic in particular. Have the beginning of the song:

This is so lovely, even if it's in that realm of canon Al would never say those things. It's also really sad, because you know that, however you headcanon it, being touched/having boundaries was a major issur with Vox.

I also think that, now we know the truth about Rosie and Alastor, it just ads to Al's touch aversion. Of course he doesn't expect boundaries at all, let alone for them to be easy.

S Tier: Ships I love. Baxter/Niffty is missing from here. Wasn't an option.

A: Canon ships I can get behind. Also, Rosie/Lilith should be here as a ship I wanna see become canon. Or at least for them to be friends/working together so that I can see their dynamic and possibly yeet them into S tier.

B: canon ships that make sense but aren't for me.

C: The Vees don't make sense cause Vel is a lesbian, but I see the logic. I would never break up Chaggie, but Charlie/Emily would be a cuteness explosion. Alastor/Lilith is a holdover from when she was prime candidate to own his soul. Toxic as hell, but fun to ponder. You could put applemedia (Lucifer/Alastor/Vox) here as well.

D: I get how these ships exist, but I don't see it.

What happened to quote and sound clip attribution in fandom spaces?

I swear we used to credit external sources more.

Like, if you're gonna swipe a single line from something, fine. But like all these animatics that use audio from something else? Why are we not stating where they're from? I don't care if it's some obscure podcast or letsplay or whatever. Give me the option of checking out the source, please. Also, it's just polite to give credit.

Currently I see this in the Hazbin Hotel fandom, but I know it's a widespread issue.

If you use song lyrics, give me the song. If you take 30s of audio from somewhere, link it, or at least say where it's from.

I wish I could say it's a small minority, but I have yet to see an animatic credit their audio in the past year, and it drives me nuts.

Worse still when it's a song that people might want to listen to and thus provide the musician with views/allow them to get some payment for their creations.

Last time I asked for a music source, I didn't even get a response. =(
