Personal headcanon time

prince herbert had a mother and an older sister, but they both died of illness when he was young. His dad kept him locked up in the castle so he wouldn't fall ill and die as well, but due to his confinement he actually ended up growing super frail because he never developed those anti-bodies so he's actually more susceptible to getting sick.

And yes, his sister was called Alice. His dad always preferred her over herb and due to herbert's effeminate nature (and looking a lot like his sister), the king often mistakes his son for his late daughter and calls him by her name.
