yejinna:
The bag of flour gave way to her tugging and a small cloud of disturbed white powder floated out of the small hole. Distracted for a moment, Yejin blew at the hovering particles before reaching for a measuring cup. The second her hand touched the plastic handle, she returned to his words, having kept them fresh in her mind. Her own lip trapped itself between her teeth, brows pressing together when he moved away. It were almost as if she could feel his words. They resonated within her chest, moving her. She understood how he felt. A pause was taken by her, eyes staring through the bag of flour and into a cyclone of her inner self, thoughts circulating at a rapid pace before settling down on one thing. Him. Yejin lifted her head and looked over her shoulder in his direction. Reaching back, she placed a warm hand behind his forearm and gave it a gentle tug back towards the table. She nodded to the bag of flour, silently asking for his help; determined to do something to boost his confidence. “Sometimes I feel like that.” It was a lie. She felt it constantly, that need to be proud of ones accomplishments. “Compared to everyone else around me, I feel that I’ve done so little. But –,” she swiped her tongue over her lips, keeping her gaze focused on his, no matter how daunting it felt. “We all grow at different paces. Compare where you are now to where you were six years ago. Does that not have any impact on you?”
Mentally, he still seemed to be quite absent. A feeling of nothingness managing to leave a faint trace of itself within his gaze. During the uneventful time between them, he was left with only being able to revise the words he had just shared; torn between feeling proud of admitting to what he usually wouldn’t, and feeling the common burn of embarrassment that he was all too familiar with. The inner conflict proved to be rather strong, and distracting, based on his reaction to her touch; his body tensing as he suddenly snapped back to reality before gracing himself with a needed second or two, to comprehend the situation that their conversation had momentarily drowned out.
Once being offered the silent invitation (or more so, instruction), he complied, by returning to his previous mark at her side. Eyes quickly flitting to the bag of flour she had motioned her head towards, then followed by cautious hands. While she spoke, Jaewon settled for listening, in time with carrying out the short act of pouring powder into the measuring cup provided, wanting to be as careful as possible at first, though the flow of it had convinced him that being forceful was the only way to gain the amount closest to what she would need, and so, with a firm jolt, came an avalanche that had the level of flour resting just beneath the rim, as well as handfuls surrounding his target. "—Shit..." He whispered, now putting whatever words he'd have said initially (regarding their conversation) to rest, and proceeding instead to question what he presumed to be a mistake at his doing. "Is that too much?"
yejinna:
Thin fingers wrapped around the fragile shell of the egg when he agreed to stick with stirring. Her smile remained present and she swiftly tapped the egg against the edge of the counter, and guided its contents into the metal mixing bowl. “You can start with mixing then,” she replied while opening a few more eggs. “Then after that, maybe you can handle the vanilla extract?” Yejin’s hands then took to the bag of flour, digits pinching its sides and tugging in opposite directions. “Jaewon,” she began, her excitement slowly giving way to concern, masked by a thin layer of curiosity. “Why do you think you’ll mess things up so often?” She couldn’t help but ask. It always pained her in a strange way when she saw him doubting himself so often. Whether it were about the cookies they planned to bake or his career. There always seemed to be some sort of hesitation or apprehension. “You know what you’re capable of…” she began to trail off, voice growing softer the longer she rambled, “What’s holding you back?”
The first question asked was one he merely answered with a small nod that he wasn’t even too sure she had spotted, considering he was paying more attention to the task at her hands, almost studying the process, as if he were soon to be quizzed on each step needed to bake the treats. However, when she spoke further, he could practically feel the interest he had beginning to diminish, despite him seeming to keep his focus on her actions, his mind had definitely wandered away, to a much more secluded area that only consisted of him. There was an unknowingly long silence that he held between the two of them, soon starting himself off by offering a low cough to awaken his throat. “With every failed attempt,” His head hung as a single step was taken away from the kitchen counter, both hands leaving it to calmly return to his pockets before his tongue swept through his lips. “a piece of confidence is taken with it.” Admittedly, the subject is one he would much rather not share with another, and if weren’t Yejin, he probably wouldn’t have responded at all. But there was something in the way she spoke--- whether it was her tone, or choice of words? He didn’t really know himself. All he was aware of, was how easy talking to her actually was. “I’m hard on myself because I don’t believe I deserve any sort of self-praise; not yet.” During the pause, he allowed for teeth to graze slowly over his lower plush. “I’m not giving up though.”
yejinna:
Is it talkin’ shit if it’s the truth though?
Yeah, there’s this thing we have in New Zealand called true shit. And this has been “A single fact about Aotearoa”, join me again, same time next week, to find out how Maoris say toilet.
yejinna:
During the time she had spent with him, she found it easier to pay more attention to his body language than to his words, of which he spoke few. The apprehension he expressed triggered a comforting smile from her. Though he hadn’t agreed as of yet, Yejin already began reaching for the bag of flour and eggs she needed from across the table. “I don’t think you’ll mess them up,” she replied confidently. “I’m not sure how you could mess them up, really. Homemade cookies aren’t supposed to be perfect.” She held up a single egg, holding it carefully within the palm of her small hand, and offered it to him. “Perfection is overrated anyway.” Her own statement caused her smile to grow, as did her excitement to be cooking the treats in the first place. As a favor to her mother, she was more than willing to help out around the cafe as many customers were often looking for desserts to take home to their families during the holiday season. Baking so many, however, was a two person job. “If you don’t feel comfortable with the technical stuff, you could always be my personal human mixer. I’m not strong enough to mix everything in such a large bowl anyway.”
Jaewon had his gaze fixated on her hands, watching as they took hold of particular ingredients while he found himself gravitating further towards her, stopping just beside her form and twisting upon the balls of his feet to face the bench completely. His hands were still unseen, fingers pinching at the inner fabric of his jacket pocket as he slowly canted his head to one side, stretching out the rather tense muscle that was his neck, for a short moment. “Cookies are--” He paused when her palm made its way towards him, the egg’s movements managing to be almost nonexistent with how careful she was sure to carry out the motion, however, being unsure of what she wanted him to do with it, he opted for leaving it be, still in her hold and choosing to simply watch for the time being. “Cookies are meant to taste good, right? There’s a chance I could ruin that.” With his lips pursing into a thin line, he released a low, but lengthy hum whilst his hands finally fled from the confinements of his jacket, allowing them to press against the bench’s edge, as a way of propping up his now leaning figure. “Mm, mixing seems easy enough. I’m sure I can do that for you.”

Jaewon fact: If you pay close attention to his body language, you’ll notice the boy struggles with something as simple as remaining in one place. He’s near constant with his shifts and changes, whether it be that he’ll alter his position completely, or just have his fingers meddle with one another, (especially during interactions) he can never keep still.
Mun fact: Yeeeeaaah, you totally know nothing about me. Ugh, I don’t wanna go into too much detail about myself cause forreal, who even cares. So, my favourite number is 7.

1. Jaewon’s a person that truly struggles with opening up, or even just communicating as a whole. Using his voice for thoughts is something you shouldn’t expect him to do too often, though his body language tends to say a lot.
2. Working is his number one go-to for relieving stress, anger and frustration. Whenever he finds himself tangled within a mix of negative emotions, I can almost guarantee that the kid will be delving into his work, hidden from everyone.
3. He doesn’t eat as often as he should. Especially when in the middle of doing a task that holds high importance in his eyes (which is a common occurrence), it’s very likely that he’d be sure to complete the job before worrying about having a needed meal.

( — 현진 ⚘ ) | Hɪs ʟᴀᴄᴋ ᴏғ ᴇɴᴛʜᴜsɪᴀsᴍ warrants a sheepish and almost apologetic smile but she doesn’t turn her head to meet his gaze (especially when he was so c l o s e). Instead, she opts to lowering her head just enough so her hair hid the disappointed pout that follows. ❝ Yeah…! ❞ The subtle touch of snowflakes and cold breeze begins to numb her fingertips and she only wishes that she’d prepared a pair of gloves ahead of time. Maybe it was childish to generate such excitement over an annual occurrence but nature was beautiful and the way Earth worked in such mysterious ways to soon blanket them in a white wonderland as enough to enchant the petite girl. ❝ Are you not a huge fan? ❞ She asks softly, afraid that if she spoke any louder, her words might become offensive to him. This time, however, she peers over at him after brushing away a few locks of hair and waits for an explanation.
Not long after his say on the matter, he had already turned away to retrace steps back towards the sofa, rather careful when allowing himself to sit down once again before sending his gaze to lock onto her image. The question managed to pull his brows together in slight wonder; unsure if his answer could alter whatever light she saw him in. “I wouldn’t say I’m not a fan.” He paused, contemplating on leaving his response at a predictable shortness, though there was a part of him that thought it quite unfair to do so --- So once done with lowering his lashes, now taking in the plain sight of flooring while he adjusted his position, he continued. “It’s nice to see, but I don’t find it as exciting as it was when I was younger. I mean, it’s just snow.”

She clearly knew that leaving things to last minute brings misfortune, yet she slacked it off the whole month, repeating to herself that she’s going to do it the day later. Here she is now, scribbling the remaining numbers of Christmas cards. How irresponsible must’ve she been to even drag Jaewon into this last minute hassle? No wonder he would say something out of annoyance as this particular activity is not the most entertaining thing to do.
Letting out an annoyed sigh, she squints her eyes ever so slightly to observe the other. “Now now, that was practically the same as a threat! I was going to write a card for you also but now that you’re being so mean…I’m not sure.” In reality though, she was very thankful that he stayed in to help her and eventually, the corners of her lips tugged into a small smile before revealing a cheeky grin. "But I do agree, the crowds and the fact that everything is so fast-paced definitely brings the holiday mood down sometimes. That is why it is better to spend your time writing letters with Jennie. Ha!”
While she seemed to be over the moon, he couldn’t even muster up so much as a fake smile to help mask the boredom. However, he did manage to push a heavy sigh through slightly parted lips, showing he wasn’t completely unfazed by the given task. “If you say so, Jennie.” His voice was guided downwards, eyes locked onto the empty card that he continued to toy with whilst words flowed away from her still. To begin his response, his body perked up some, finally letting his gaze take hold of her image. “Oh, it sounds like you just threatened Christmas.” The pad of his index digit repeatedly flicked the corner piece of cardboard as a smile only now, began to shape his lips.
❝ Christmas is far too commercialized. ❞
Arms crossed upon the wooden surface, the side of his head nestled within the crook of his bent elbow while half lidded eyes aimlessly traced around the outline of his phone, all the while quiet thoughts— well, mental curses, were being directed to the dull pains that had been stabbing into his lower back for the past week. Of course, the other’s voice was heard, however the initial reaction was rather poor; merely a low, and unnecessarily long hum, was all he added to his current state. But, after a short moment of nothingness between the two, Jaewon offered a small shrug, then finally a response. “The holiday about giving and receiving? Not really surprising.”
