i think you should be suspicious of anyone that can't seem to explain their arguments in plain language. Even the most complex topics can be broken down and explained in accessible language. If there is an argument that is always couched in 500 obscure pieces of jargon or turns of phrase and words dug out of the farthest corners of a thesaurus, and the people arguing it seem incapable of talking about it in any other way, it might be because the obfuscation is the point, and they want you to assume you are out of your depth and that you should just trust them as the expert. When really, any real expert can (and will) explain the same concept in different ways to different audiences and should have no problem doing so.

I’m glad that so many people are defending Imane Khelif on the basis of her being the victim of an absolutely vile smear campaign, but I wanna make sure Tumblr is also 100% clear on something:

Imane Khelif is a fucking PHENOMENAL boxer.

Her footwork is superb, she’s incredibly agile and has clearly trained to make full use of her long limbs to build up extraordinary power in her strikes. It’s amazing to watch.

She’s not from a well-off family, she used to sell scrap metal for money for training—she’s someone who knew damn well that she was born to box and she’s worked incredibly hard to get to where she is.

She’s a once in a generation talent, and it’s outrageous that her opponents’ poor sportsmanship and a media smear campaign has overshadowed that.

I wish her the best of luck going forward. May her success overshadow all who ever slandered her.

Reversing Earlier Denial, Israeli Army Admits to Running Snuff Channel on Telegram

The Israeli occupation army has admitted to running a Telegram channel showcasing extreme, graphic content and gore, or snuff films.

The channel was created on October 9, two days after the war began, as “The Avengers.” The next day the name was changed to “Azazel,” based on the Hebrew pronunciation of “Gaza” and a word for hell, before being changed to its current name [72 Virgins Uncensored]. One entry posted on October 11 reads: “Burning their mother … You won’t believe the video we got! You can hear the crunch of their bones. We’ll upload it right away, get ready.” Images of Palestinian captives and corpses were captioned “Exterminating the roaches … exterminating the Hamas rats. … Share this beauty.” In another instance, the following caption accompanied a video of an Israeli soldier allegedly dipping machine gun bullets in pork fat: “What a man!!!!! Lubricates bullets with lard. You won’t get your virgins.” And: “Garbage juice!!!! Another dead terrorist!! You have to watch it with the sound, you’ll die laughing.”

it broke today that biden airdropped aid to gaza. other than the fact that this is an obvious pr move ahead of his re-election campaign, i think it's important to stress how ineffective this method is compared to just allowing humanitarian aid to come through. airdrops carry far less aid than truck convoys, for one, and require an airdrop zone with a lot of idealistic conditions that don't often coincide. this is a major reason why you hear a lot of airdrops being conducted at beaches--and why a lot of them have been blown to the sea. and what's even more dangerous about that is that a lot of these palestinians are malnourished, starving, in a delirious state of mind. many of them are so utterly hungry that they'd be willing to swim through just to get their hands on a sodden meal. but apparently this is the best thing the us, which literally funds israel's ongoing genocide, can do for palestinians at the moment.

i think the biggest reason i find this so insidious is because it implies the us has to play by israel's rules, even though it's basically already confirmed that there are us soldiers in palestine. the us is telling us that the best thing it can do is airdrop aid, rather than strongarm israel into allowing ground-delievred aid to come through. the us is acting like it has red tape it has to contend with.

but the us is the red tape. the us literally holds the power. it knows what it's doing. it's actually jarring watching the united states government try to infantilize itself.
