Hey, good lookin'!
Greetings and salutations, fellow word-arranger! I see that you also enjoy the art of reshuffling letters until they spell out cool stuff. That sounds like a pretty solid basis for a friendship, hmm...
This is a little nook for all things writing! It covers everything from tips and book reviews to the very backbone of society (memes, duh). The aim here is to build a nice community and foster friendships and support and all of that good stuff. Writing can be pretty lonely, so let's make it a little less so!
About me
Hi, I'm Alai. I'm a queer Venezuelan girly, late-20's, looking to become more active in the writeblr community. Some of my other interests include philosophy, Greek mythology, all sciences (I have an Honors degree in Laboratory Medicine!) and everything to do with the Classics.
My focus is on Queer Supernatural Horror, but I'm open to all sorts of genres and do very much read other stuff on the reg. Also really into Sci-Fi, Thrillers, and Literary Fiction.
Most of my work is novel-centric, but I also love reading short stories and poetry and cannot resist a good out of context quote lol.
Lover of all things character-driven and morally ambiguous, pyrrhic victories, interpersonal drama, tragic losers doomed by the narrative, and the liberal use of Catholic Guilt™️ as literary garnish.
I'm an only child who once heard that sharing is caring, so please hit me with your best WIP and let's chat about it! We can even hold each other (accountable so we can get it DONE).

Nulla Salus (Queer Supernatural Horror)
Summary: Nahia Boyd is a PhD candidate whose thesis centers around researching antipsychotics for use in anticancer treatments, which makes it all the more unethical when she starts taking them herself in a desperate bid to deal with her latest issue: hallucinating life as a 1920's nun. Not just any nun, either, but Sister Ana Conway, the resident quasi-saint whose life came to an early end at the daggered hand of Reilly Byrne, a local salt tycoon with a curated hatred for the Catholic Church. When the chancellor, Huxley Sinclair, calls Nahia to a meeting, she expects to get expelled, but is surprised to find herself hired for an unexpected job instead: sabotaging his estranged daughter, Rory Sinclair, so she won't pass her midterms. Under threat of expulsion, incarceration, and failing the dead mother for whom she chose to go into cancer research at all, Nahia agrees to involuntarily withdraw Rory from her Mechatronic Engineering course, ignoring both the voice telling her that she might as well hang Rory herself, and the hallucinations—visions—telling her that she's made these decisions before and ended up stabbed for them. As she delves into her role as saboteur, and forced to remain inconveniently sober, Nahia continues to suffer these visions—only to realize that, however intrusive, they're useful. The life she invented for Ana rhymes with her own, and she can extrapolate her own subconscious advice to use for stopping the tailspin her interpersonal issues have been on since she started her PhD program. She fixes some things, breaks even more, and keeps trying to convince herself (and her scientific sensibilities) that she isn't haunted. Ghosts don't exist. Ana is not reaching out to her. But evidence to the contrary keeps piling up, and strange things keep happening, and Rory seems intent on proving that Nahia is hiding something big while clearly hiding something even bigger herself... Note: there's a TON more to this plot, I promise!! But unfortunately, any particulars I may give would constitute an absolutely gargantuan spoiler lol. Also, there are New Adult/coming of age elements to this story, and a dual-timeline setup that makes it kind of a Historical, too, so if you're into that, huzzah! Tropes: soulmates, forced proximity (kinda if you squint), co-saboteurs to lovers (squint a bit more just trust me lmao), absolutely rancid sibling dynamics, mommy issues, daddy issues, crisis of faith, Everything Is A Lie Nothing Is Sacred, loser women cringefailing, "ah, you're one of them queers", The Catholic Church. TWs: religious trauma, suicide, violence, blood, body horror, abortion, drug use, ableism, homophobia, cancer, death, infertility, pregnancy, hallucinations, fire, murder, profanity, France (mentioned) and lesser elements of sexism, racism, war, depression, and anxiety.
Will be looking for betas and feedback very soon, so please stay tuned! Updates to come on this blog. If anyone's at all interested, any sort of engagement would be very welcomed and appreciated :)
Happy writing!
Edit: if any of y'all remember me from back in the day—NO YOU DON'T lmao. I overhauled this whole thing completely and it's, quite literally, a whole other book, hence the years long absence. Haha. Ha. :(
