First go at the kingdom map for my upcoming game.
Looks great! I'm a big fan of the way the Sea is to the East and not the West like most fantasy maps
fuck it. Ā I might not be a cartographer but I am the author and if I decide my map isnāt going to be north-justified then it damn well isnāt going to be north-justified, and confused people with no sense of direction* can suck it.
First, not trying to be a dick, but trying to share some knowledge 'cause ya' know, maps are cool.
I know you said you're not a cartographer but when you talk about maps the term is oriented, not justified, when you want to talk about which way a map faces. (Unless you want to talk about Left-JustifiedĀ Fantasy MapsĀ which is an odd phenomenon where fantasy maps always seem to have the ocean to the left side of the page, kinda like Europe).
As others have pointed out, historically maps used to be justified to the East, it's why Asia is sometimes called The Orient.Ā The term "Orient" derives from the Latin wordĀ oriensĀ meaning "east".
In the corner of the room you see a small unlit iron brassiere.
-Our DM mispronouncing the word ābrazier' while describing a torture chamber (via outofcontextdnd)
I have made this mistake at least once. I know the difference just niether are words I say often.
Melbourne Metro.
A brilliant metaphor
Also a good argument as to why we need to fix our (society's) relationship, not just to women, but to bikes and cyclists.

7 Things I Wish Parents Would Stop Teaching Their Children:
That nudity is inherently sexual
That people should be judged for their personal decisions
That yelling solves problems
That they are too young to be talking about the things theyāre already starting to ask questions about
That age correlates to importance
That interacting with someone of the opposite sex is inherently romantic
That the default for someone is straight and cisgender
So, my friend made herself into 15 foot long cardboard velociraptor with googly eyes

I want one!
This was my favorite sight at Origins. King of Tokyo really IS a family game. :-)
(More here.)
I have a feeling I know someone who'd love this set.
Mario Kart 8
I NEED TO TALK ABOUT HOW A 15 YEAR OLD LOOKS OLDER THAN A FUCKING 23 YEAR OLD
I canāt tell which one youāre talking about.
For referenceĀ Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Jojan Reed) is 24 (Born May 16, 1990) whileĀ Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran) is 15 (Born April 9, 1999).
Dublin
You see, this is what I love about Ireland.
Most people would look at that rock and say; āgosh, thatās a pretty cool rock, I wonder how it stays up like that?ā
No. That is not the right way to do things.
The Irish look at that and say; āIām going to build a house on that fucker.ā
Minecraft
Photoshop.
The rock is in Thailand, it even has a name Ko Tapu, itās between two islands,Ā Khao Phing Kan.
The āhouseā is actually Lichtenstein Castle inĀ Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
So, not only is it not real, not even itās component parts are in Ireland.Ā
My friend and I were given 5 sheets of paper to support as much weight as possible. This is the result. We had to stop stacking books because the ceiling got in the way.
Holy crap
physics go home youre broken
This is actually physics in action. Round pillars are stupid-strong. The pillars are weakest at their corners. So, the fewer the corners, the stronger it is. A triangular structure is more stable than a square, and a circular is even better than a triangle. You will see a lot of bridges utilizing the triangle, and a lot of buidings, especially old ones, utilizing the circular pillars.Ā
So, thereās your lesson in engineering for the evening.Ā
WRONG!
This is just wrong!
It's not the corners that make paper weak, but flat edges. A single sheet of paper, unfolded in anyway, couldn't support anything because it would buckle (which is the threat with paper and similar materials under compressive forces). If you fold it, it actually gives it strength, the more you fold it, the stronger it gets. A concertina fold will give it the most strength. This effectively 'thickens' the paper so it can support a greater load.
A circle also doesn't have fewer corners, it has more. In fact it's often best to think of a circle as an infinite number of corners. Don't believe me? Imagine a triange, then a square, then a hexagon, an octagon a decagon, a dodecagon; and so on. As you add more corners, and more faces you get closer and closer to a circular shape. Circles are strong, because they've got no flat faces for failure to happen.
Triangles are strong because they cannot buckle from a lateral load without a joint failing. They won't distort which means they're great for trusses.
So⦠by making this comparison, The Herald Sun is saying Tony Abbott is vicious, cruel, cowardly, the son of an incestuous union and likes to shoot women with crossbowsā¦
One is an incompetent, reactionary leader, full of bigotry, controlled by money, utterly lacking in compassion, who rose to power because someone else stabbed the former leader in the back for reasons unrelated to himself, and who cares more about asserting his power, which he does almost entirely by bluster (which his allies then have to clean up after) than about wielding it constructively.
The other, of course, is a fictional character.
