sometimes you just gotta listen to music at a volume that you know will be part of the cause of your hearing loss at the age of 28
hey yall. im 25 now and i already have tinnitus <3 dont do this. LOL
oh btw for those saying “i already have tinnitus haha it cant get worse” YEAH IT CAN BITCH! if you want to listen to music loud do it on speakers at least. headphones will Beam Pain Waves Directly Into Your Cochlear Hair Cells and a 10kHz Tone Loud Enough Will Give You Psychic Damage Forever
if i have to fucken, translate it to something you’ll understand? Imagine theres a picture of garfield here saying
YOU ARE NOT IMMUNE TO HEARING LOSS
fun fact: any policy on drugs that isn’t harm reduction is going to cause addicts to suffer and die
fun fact: Drug addiction is a public health issue, and approaching it as if it were a law enforcement issue is prejudicial to addicts and will result in their suffering and death
if you just assume addiction is a method of self-medicating, you’ll pretty much never be wrong.
now, not everything people self-medicate for actually has a proper treatment. i’m pretty sure the reason my uncle made sure to be slightly drunk at all times ‘to round the sharp corners off of things’ was sensory processing disorder. i have that too, and i just kind of accept that i’m going to randomly get my brain sandpapered from time to time. there is no medication for that. all you can do is dull your senses. i’ve chosen not to, but i can’t blame him for his decisions. when a ringing phone feels like getting hit upside the head with a frying pan, liver damage sounds like a fair price to pay.
anyway, it seems really self-evident to me that people don’t enjoy living the life of an addict, they do it because the alternative looks worse. people don’t get addicted to substances just for funsies. they start making a habit of taking something because of insomnia, or grief, or headaches, or depression, or seething undirected rage and terror they can’t put a name to – something that they can’t ignore or shrug off. and for whatever reason – lack of access, lack of knowlege, lack of money, or it just plain doesn’t exist – they aren’t able to apply the Approved Correct Remedy. they use what they can get.
addicts aren’t some weird otherfolk who inexplicably just Do Drugs because they’re Bad. addicts are you with a problem you can’t solve.
these facts aren’t fun but they are pretty important
Even funner fact: the entire public health field has been full throat screaming all of this for decades, and yet law enforcement priorities have clotheslined change at every turn.

Reminder that BetterHelp doesn't give a fuck about their patients and is actually a fucking terrible way to get therapy.
Please find other alternatives for BH because they're ATROCIOUS.

You know the parable about how the foolish man built his house upon sand and the wise man built his house upon rock and it’s always about having a sturdy foundation well there is also the fact of location which is that the sand probably used to be rock except it’s been eroded to sediment because it’s a FUCKING FLOODPLAIN
I feel like a dumbass, but @rapidashmascot just revolutionised my understanding of that parable.
My family quotes that parable loudly every time another planned housing community on a former floodplain gets inundated with water.
If safety in your ideal society is entirely based on care by networks of affinity, and does not provide care for people who are not liked by anybody, then your society is actually even worse than the situation we are in now.
Pissing off people close to you or over-exhausting your social network or isolating yourself is often an inherent part of many mental health problems, addictions, etc. By the time people need care the most, they have often lost all their networks of affinity, and with some bad luck, any of us could find ourselves in that situation.
There has to be unconditional care available for the more unlikable of us, or there isn't really a safety net for any of us.
The thing that concerns me the most is that the people I see arguing for only informal/community support networks are often in communities that have a lot of interpersonal drama and poor conflict resolution skills. So it's like...this should be your primary support network, but also people get excommunicated on a regular basis? That's a terrible idea for everyone involved. People who have caused harm still deserve help, and people who have been harmed deserve the ability to set boundaries and remove people from their lives in ways that aren't sentencing that person to losing all their options for basic support.
Reblogging with tags from @kdhume
the goal should always be a dozen different overlapping support networks, both informal and formal, institutional and interpersonal, distant and close. so if one net fails, there’s half a dozen more below it.
whenever I tell someone “I’m tired” and they say “go to sleep” and I say “I’m not that type of tired” and they say “there’s only one type of tired” I always feel amazed. Astounded. How do they not know the different versions of tired.
Physical exhaustion from the chronic illness. Not drowsy, but needs to lay down. Maybe my Hashimoto’s or bad knees or plantar fasciitis is acting up, but either way, I need to relax with an ice pack and a tens unit.
emotional exhaustion. The type of “tired” people mean when they say “I’m sick and tired of x.” I’m so numb and usually I’d be about one minor inconvenience away from snapping but the exhaustion of being alive has gotten so heavy that I don’t even notice inconveniences anymore.
drowsiness. If I’m trying to tell someone I need to sleep, I’ll say “I’m sleepy” or “I want to go to bed.”
unable to process what’s going on but the closest word I can use to describe how I’m feeling is “tired.”
5. The kind of tired that comes with severe brain fog. You don't mean to be struggling so much just to answer a simple question, but you are. And the effort makes it worse.
6. Mystery Mix, youre not about to fall asleep but what were you doing again? Why? Right. Ow. Would this be a good time to cry?
7. not manic

do you know any shrimp scientists? if yes can you ask them why thor amboinensis are apparently referred to as sexy shrimp. because what
I looked into this, and it turns out the answer is basically that these shrimp sway sexily (?) whilst they walk or feed. You be the judge.
Always nice when math helps make it all the more clear how ridiculously reasonable the worker demands are.
This is what the studios have brought everything to a grinding halt for.
If the WHOLE COUNTRY'S economy cannot work without the labor that UPS workers provide, than their labor is worth their demands and more.
No other conclusion can be rationally made from this information.

"IF YOU BUILD IT, WE WILL BURN IT"
[VD: A black person stands at a podium. They say, "There is no war on police. There is no such thing as a blue life. The thin blue line is a tantrum of immature and petulant adult children. If your egos are too fragile to accept the rightful criticism of your tactics, then quit. If you can't do your job without somebody constantly hovering over your shoulder, then say it. We'll hold your timid hands at every step. You've already forfeited any career aspirations you may have had. We live here, y'all have made it abundantly clear that you all just work here. If accountability makes you uncomfortable, go somewhere else. Atlanta has no place for you. The police have shown time and time again that the training they've been given isn't interested in de-escalation, conflict resolution, or preservation of life. If I had 57 bullets, I could assassinate every member in this chamber with three shots each and still have nine bullets left over. I dare any single one of you to tell me that you believe that is justified, reasonable or acceptable as standard operating procedure. Wars have been fought over, much less. What's the difference between a bullet and a cop? If a bullet kills someone, you'll know it's been fired. If you have a problem, call the police. Then you'll have two problems: money or violence. You seem to only respond to these two categories using one to beget the other. Can't even get the correct dates on your signed off warrants, but expect us to believe that you have the competency and due diligence for a 100 million dollar project that we have told you repeatedly that we do not need and we do not want. The May 31 deployment of militarized police units on a residential street to raid a bail fund on suspicion of white collar financial crimes is tyrannical. Tyrannical entities must be demolished by any means necessary. You have the option to resign willingly, be cast out politically, or be removed violently. The choice you make today on this bill will be inextricably linked to the method that will be chosen. You will vote no. You will vote no. You will vote no. All of you will vote no today and you will re-plant every tree you uprooted a hundred times over. Those who make peaceful revolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable. If you build it, we will burn it." End VD.]
