I would rather build whatever my greatest version of myself and any success I have in my life, brick by brick, day by day. That's why even though it gets frustrating and depressing at times, I keep going. I keep building. Because eventually, continuously building, sharing and creating does pay off. All the world's great creators took time to become masters. They put in time and effort, and it eventually paid off. So don't stop building your dreams into reality. I tagged friends and celeb acquaintances who said they were in the path of irma. Hope they don't mind that this is my way of saying I love them all. ♡ I'm very happy to see Instagram updates of friends and acquaintances today of people who are okay and beginning to return #home in the path of #irma. America is ready to assist in the rebuilding effort in the #florida / #georgia area and my continued prayers for those in #southcarolina, #alabama and elsewhere. #foodbank donations in these communities will be likely needed, as will gifts for kids who feel #trauma. People may or may not have lost thier houses, depending on where they live - but I am glad to say many of my friends have had minimal damage, or at least, are alive. My continued #prayers and #goodvibes for everyone affected by #irma, and #harvey too. ♡ Also, I am certainly thinking about my brothers and sisters with #specialneeds and also the #pets as well. ♡ #FloridaStrong

For those of us who were around 16 years ago, especially in #nyc, the images are seared into our brains. Apparently I'm only 30 miles from the #freedomtower, closer than previously thought. It was my freshman year of high school, and it was very early, at the end of first or second period of the school day. My aide and I decided to wheel me up to the study hall room because we knew Ms. Ricco had a portable radio she would occasionally let us listen to. So for about 3 hours, I played "hookey" from class and listened to WCBS-AM until we were let out of school, listening to the on-site reports. I remember going home and watching Peter Jennings on ABC, one of the last widely-respected news people in the world, before people lost trust in the media (another subject for another day altogether)...it still seems surreal 16 years later. I also admit that in the weeks after #september11th 2001, music pretty much stopped on local radio (which was actually helpful considering the circumstances) as people called in to shows like #opieandanthony and #ronandfez - and these shows, normally "shock-jock", outrageously obnoxious and crude, decided to take calls from people searching for even tiny fragments of loved ones trapped underneath the rubble. Most people know what happened that day, and gradually, we did rebuild, and we did move forward, and for at least a few months, it seemed like the entire country, but here in #nyc especially, we put aside our differences, #politics and otherwise and truly rallied around in support of each other. It's ironic how, in times of tragedy or disaster, we do put differences aside. I have friends who lost loved ones that day. For some, it might get a little easier, others still have nightmares. We also shouldn't forget those near the #pentagon or in #pennsylvania who lost their lives trying to stop further chaos that day. Unfairly, tensions rose in the years to follow for those of the Muslim world because a few truly sick individuals disparaged their culture. I wish it had never happened. We can all still work towards harmony, if we #chooselove instead of automatically choosing violence, especially here in #america #neverforget (at Stamford, Connecticut)

I'll never forget #september11 2001. Nor will I forget the words of one of the last widely-respected news people in the world on that day. His words are true in the middle of chaos, including #irma. Peter provided calm for me as I was about an hour away geographically from #manhattan on this day in 2001. He also was probably a reason why I worked in local radio in high school about 15 years ago, after that sad day. (Screenshot from the exact moment he said the following words on 9/11/2001) JENNINGS: I checked in with my children, and it--who are deeply distressed, as I think young people are across the United States. I'm thinking of the many many many friends of mine in the path of #irma I'd tag them but quite frankly its hard to keep track of them all and they're all in shelter of some sort right now based on Instagram stories (either in #florida or by traveling to other areas of the US far away from the #hurricane.) Please stay calm and safe and if you have portable radios or any way to listen to local television, please do.

In honor of the people living life to the fullest with #Duchenne & in memory of those who lived with #dmd who passed away. It used to be that this particular form of #musculardystrophy was certain to limit the lives of children in childhood across the proverbial board with few exceptions - and to the parents who have already lost children and young adults to this progressive genetic neuromuscular disability, know that the world wishes we could get them back - we honor their memory and accomplishments. We also celebrate the accomplishments of today's generation of young people beyond their medical diagnosis while continuing to advocate for their full inclusion as humans in society as well as making sure their quality of life continues thanks to recent #fda medicine proven to improve their quality of life. From last Saturdsy. Oh how I missed going here. This past weekend was one of the few dinners I've had out with my dad after all the personal crap we've been working through. The food at @amorestamford is fresh, large portions even if you don't want large portions, and surprisingly affordable - also, #wheelchair #accessible inside the restaurant - parking fills up at night, so go in the afternoon if you use a wheelchair in terms of parking. Not pictured, the #lasagna balls & warm "bubble bread" #lasagnaballs #mozzerella #italian #foodporn - oh and the staff is wonderful. Just go visit if you're ever in CT already!
