Archie Panjabi - Emmy Winner - 2010
Emmy winner who had to buy her own dress off the rack because no designer would loan one. (She then auctioned her dress for charity.)
And let’s not forget what happened when she first arrived on the red carpet:
"it was like going to Disneyworld for the first time… And then it all went downhill. I was on the red carpet and you have to queue up, and get on one of the dots so they can take a photo. They’re screaming for the woman in front of me, and then it’s my turn… So I come up to this dot, and every single photographer in the line puts their camera down… So I was all dressed up on my biggest night ever and that moment happened. I wanted the floor to open up. Literally, they just …" she mimes a photographer lowering a camera, looking bored. “That woke me up.”
Panjabi went on to win the Emmy for best supporting actress that night, beating Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks and Elisabeth Moss, as well as her co-star in The Good Wife, Christine Baranski. She was also one of only two Brits to win an award that night. “And then I went to take the pictures at the end, and I’m kissing the award, quietly thinking: ‘Yeah, fuck you.’”

I’ve been a fan of hers since she played Jess’s sister in Bend It Like Beckham.
I didn't know this happened to her. I loved her as Kalinda in The Good Wife. She deserved that Emmy.

bar exam logistics
Been seeing a lot of questions about bar logistics recently. This will depend a lot on the state, so check your state bar website, but here are some things that you might find helpful, based solely on my experience.
DO NOT bring stuff they told you to not bring. If they said don’t bring pens and highlighters, for example, DON’T FUCKING BRING PENS AND HIGHLIGHTERS. They will take them away. You’ll have to do a walk of shame to the front of the room to drop them in a box.
I heard that in my year some idiot tried to get away with having a smart watch. He got it taken away and I’m not sure he ever got it back. Don’t be that guy.
You will not be able to eat during testing hours. You can bring food but it’ll have to stay in a bag outside the actual testing room, and you cannot access said bag during testing hours even if you were to walk by it to go to the restroom. Into the testing room you can only bring permitted items which do not include food/drinks. You will eat at lunch. So eat a breakfast.
Most people dressed comfortably in their law school sweatshirts, jeans, etc. It can get cold if they’re going to be pumping AC. I’d avoid walking in with the hoodie over your head though. Why arouse suspicion?
If your state requires a dress code, follow it. Ask other people who took it before you.
Give yourself enough time to get to the hotel the night before, and enough time in the morning to get to the testing center. Goes without saying, of course, but you will feel so much more relaxed.
If you are going to have to upload the exam via your own internet (as opposed to using internet at the testing center), you especially want to make sure that you will have internet in your hotel room.
Get a hotel room walking distance from the bar exam. Traffic/parking/car troubles are the last things you want to deal with in the morning of the bar exam.
Stock up on food in your hotel room so you don’t need to worry about buying meals should you realize there’s nothing around your hotel. This includes things to drink - bottled water, gatorade, etc.
Good luck!
*sigh*
Leslie Jones on her Twitter trolls (x)
You guys literally never know what your rights are under the 1st Amendment per the Free Speech Clause.
Reevaluating Friendships
There comes a point for every POC, after you have “awakened” to the virulent and systematic nature of your own oppression and that of others, after which your life simply will never be the same. Everything from your life beforehand is called into question–things you said and did, the words and lessons of your parents, and BS societal motifs like the “American Dream” and America being “the land of opportunity” as well. All of these things are suddenly cast in doubt because you just didn't get it then, and hindsight truly is 20/20.
At this point, too, even the friendships you made during that time require reexamination. “Best” friends you had from beforehand are suddenly evaluated on whether or not they actually get these issues or not.
And then there comes a scary point when you realize that the vast majority of them actually do not.
And as you continue to peer backward, a haunting realization slowly creeps up your back, telling you that those friendships can and will never be the same. The closeness you shared so deeply will be swapped for distance. The support and love you had nurtured over years will slowly turn to ambivalence. Those friendships will not be what they once were in light of your awakening, and as painful as your awakening has already been, it will now also require you to leave behind many of your close friends as well.
As if the pain of oppression wasn’t hard enough already.
But at the same time as you are realizing all of these things, you know that having your awakening was still arguably the most important moment in your life. You know that you’re starting to understand these issues, and how they fit in your life and that of others both like and unlike you. You know that you are standing on the side of justice and up against what is just fundamentally wrong and unjust in the world. And you know that your conviction and love for doing good will be able to carry you through that painful transition at the end of the day, as you slowly find a new community of people who actually do get it and care about these issues as much as people should.

Watch: Leslie Jones gave a touching tribute to Whoopi Goldberg about why representation matters
Gifs: The View
Just beautiful <3 @lemonade-time
oh my god. Imagine being Whoopi and hearing that though.
Well, when I was nine years old Star Trek came on,“ Goldberg says. “I looked at it and I went screaming through the house, ‘Come here, mum, everybody, come quick, come quick, there’s a black lady on television and she ain’t no maid!’ I knew right then and there I could be anything I wanted to be.” - See more at: http://www.startrek.com/database_article/goldberg-whoopi#sthash.gKeuf3XI.dpuf
That’s three generations. Nichelle Nichols to Whoopi Goldberg to Leslie Jones.
Representation fucking matters.
why are the hot ones always gay
Because straight people are ugly
Someone apparently isn’t a fan of Benedict Cumberbatch, David Tennant, Martin Freeman, Matt Smith, Christopher Eccleston, or any other straight, famous person.
I stopped after Benedict Cumberbatch
LMFAO
You. Started. With. Benedict. Cumberbatch.
I’m seeing calls for people to defend Taylor swift and again seeing Taylor swift used to degrade other women who don’t fit the respectable feminist image. As a black woman I don’t owe her shit nor does anyone else in the name of feminism.
Note: one about Katy Perry meant to say **how contracts work**
Ugh. Taylor is absolutely insufferable.
