iKhaya Le Themba Project provides holistic care to children and families made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS and other difficult life circumstances. They are set up in Imizamo Yethu Township, Cape Town with 100 children aged 6-12.

They offer after school care with structured programs in a safe and stimulating environment. The programs include educational support, life skills, therapeutic groups as well as opportunities for fun and play and a good meal.

Tsaatan - The Reindeer People of Northern Mongolia - Part 1

The Tsaatan, or Dhuka, of Northern Mongolia are the last reindeer herders who have survived the test of time. They travel through the mountains bordering Siberia and rely solely on their reindeer for all their basic needs; milk from which they make cheese, their fur for clothing, the antlers for making tools and their meat for food.

The reindeer are used as a means of transporting their belongings from one place to another, where they set up teepees for shelter and make a new home for no longer than 3 months. During the summer, the Tsaatan move to new pastures with plenty of grass for their reindeer to graze on, in the hopes of them storing enough fat for the cold, brutal winters.

Like almost every other indigenous culture in the world, the Tsaatan are also becoming more influenced by westernisation, with the availability of cheap Chinese clothing, solar panels to power large batteries, and cell phones which they use regularly to communicate between families.
