the mind vs. the body. part one: understanding the body's role
what i want to teach you with this little lecture is a concept that i've noticed is so hard for many people in the loass community to grasp. i'll sum it up in one sentence before we dive in: you must stop living your life through your body and start living it through your mind. let's begin.
it’s easy to believe that the body is “you.” after all, you’ve seen it in the mirror every day of your life. you’ve felt its weight, its aches, its reactions. you’ve used its five senses to interpret the world around you: what’s safe, what’s familiar, what’s happening. you’ve been trained to use what you can see, hear, and touch as a way to measure reality.
but the body, in all its wisdom and usefulness, is still just a temporary vessel. it’s an expression of you, NOT the source of you. the senses it uses were designed to help you navigate the world, NOT define what’s true. they reflect back to you what has been assumed, believed, or impressed upon the mind, NOT what is or what must be.
the philosopher descartes said, “i think, therefore i am.” but even that puts the cart slightly before the horse because it’s not the thoughts you have that prove your existence, it’s the fact that you’re aware of the thoughts. walk with me... the real you is the awareness that notices the thought, notices the emotion, notices the sensation but isn’t any of those things at its core.
when you use the senses to decide what’s real, you’re always basing your understanding on the past. the senses can only show you what has already happened. they show you what your current state has already produced. that’s why neville goddard said, “disregard appearances.” not as a form of delusion or denial, but because appearances are effects, not causes. appearances are shadows, not the object casting them.
you've heard this one before: if you plant a seed, you don’t dig it up the next day to see if it’s growing. even if you can’t see it yet, you know there’s something happening underneath the surface. in the same way, when you enter a new state, the effects must follow. but if you look to the senses for confirmation, you uproot the change. what we call “logic” is often just the body’s way of repeating what it already knows. it says: this hasn’t happened before, this doesn’t match what i see, this would require change, and change feels unsafe. and the body/brain loves what feels familiar and safe, even if it is bad for you.
but that’s not true intelligence, that’s pattern-recognition. it’s just the nervous system doing what it was trained to do, which is to keep you safe from the unfamiliar. but “safe” isn’t the same as “true,” and familiar isn’t the same as destiny. please remember this.
the creative mind (consciousness) doesn’t rely on sight or circumstance. it moves by faith, by inner knowing, by assumption. neville called this “thinking from the end,” not thinking of the end. in other words, being it now. you do not wait for the body to catch up before allowing yourself to identify as the version of you who has it.
scripture reflects this too. in hebrews 11:1, it says: “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” that is to reiterate, the unseen comes first, the imagination comes first. the body witnesses what the mind has already claimed. your body, your senses, and your feelings are all useful but they are not the source, they are just instruments used by the body to report on the reality your consciousness is occupying. considering what you've just learned, you must now practice going within when you desire proof. tune in to my blog for part two of this lecture where i will explain how to do so. thank you for your time.
