i could be wrong, but… think a lot of jasper people actually agree with me that she’s given a hopeful ending. little homeschool is an ideal place for her to stay. it’s certainly more reassuring than CYM, after which she could’ve gone Literally Anywhere and we’d had no idea. now we know she’ll “get help”.
i think more than that, what many still yearn for is a sense of… catharsis? her letting her feelings out, crying about it all & being comforted. that i do get.
i understand why they didn’t go there - steven, ultimately, wasn’t her savior. and she wasn’t his, either - which may, in the long run, be good. that’s basically the only way to avoid romanticizing the diamond-protector thing in either direction. if she’d saved him, you know she’d clung to that as reason why she “should” be with her diamond no matter what.
it may have come across a bit… “early pearl”-esque, if she did? basically a scenario where they enable her being a “hero” for devoting herself to steven.
so i respect that. but i know not everyone can focus on the “long-term implications”, no matter how good they are, when it’s not for us to actually see.
they went the “bitter pill to swallow” road. in this case, meaning having her actually need to be forced to get help, by steven saying that he shouldn’t be worshipped and she should do better for herself.
so even though that all makes sense to me, i do understand that emotionally, jasper didn’t get as happy an ending as she did “theoretically”. we didn’t get to see her cry, or get hugged, or get reassured in a “sweeter” way, even if steven obviously thinks she would be happier without a diamond.
idk, i guess i see both sides here. i understand the crew were likely walking a tightrope with Not romanticizing the current relationship between steven & jasper, while also finding a way for her to move forward without him (and hence, due to the steven-centric perspective of the show, without us).
