Josefina muttered to herself absent-mindedly while she flipped through her mom’s spell-book looking hurriedly for a spell that would do something with her hair. For the life of her, she couldn’t understand how muggles did the whole “getting ready for a dance/date” thing without the added benefit of being able to magic up instantaneous results. Not that this was a date, of course, that would imply that she in someway liked Javid and she didn’t. She had just needed a date, because if Valentino Fucking De La Cruz could find some boy to take to the Yule Ball than she had to as well.
Or at least, that’s what she told herself. She sent a quick glance at the clock on the wall, cursing silently at herself when she found she was running behind schedule. Fuck. Why was she so nervous? It was just Javid, and they were at the very least friends. He was harmless and sometimes funny. This night would be fine. She would be fine. What was the worst that could happen?
A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts, and Josefina gave herself a quick once over in the mirror before making her way to the door, opening it to reveal Javid. Scratch that, whoever this was was decidedly un-Javid. A suit? Combed hair? A tie? Josefina stood in the doorway, frozen in place as she blinked rapidly. Damn.
“Look at you, all dressed up in a Suit and Tie,” She said finally, as she awkwardly fidgeted in place. “You- uh, look good,” She added belatedly.
Shaking herself out of whatever trance she was in, she rolled her shoulders back and offered Javid her arm. “Shall we?” She said, a small smile growing at the corner of her mouth.
A slight smile slipped onto his lips as Josefina had said he looked good. Javid began to gnaw on his lower lip, a habit he had acquired and that only appeared when he was truly nervous about something. In this moment he was definitely nervous. Sky blue hues averted to meet with her own, and for a moment he bit back a remark along the lines of well, not like I had another choice, seeing as you’re my date. You would have killed me if I showed up in ripped jeans and a hoodie. And instead, he said, “You look beautiful...”And this was true, the emerald green satin dress seemed as though it was only there to underline the beauty which already existed.
When she offered her arm, the young man took it gladly. Looping his around her own. “Yes, we shall. So what’s the plan for tonight, Josefina?” He arched a brow at the other as they began to make their way towards the great hall. Head tilted to the side ever so slightly as his light hues would not escape her features, it was as though he could not look away, almost as though he was spelled in that moment. But, he knew he wasn’t. That was just the natural charm of Josefina Machado Ramos.
“First dancing or are we grabbing a bite and drink first?” For Javid knew for a fact that the rest of the evening was out of his control, and he was glad. For that was what Josefina was good at, she was good at organizing and putting people to work. And so this evening would turn out well, as long as it was Josefina making the decisions and not Javid. For Javid feared these events, he feared the masses of people stuffed in one room and his body was itching already to escape it. But, he wouldn’t. For he had finally brought up the courage to ask Josefina and now he could not go back. He wouldn’t.
