So. Because my tumblr url has now been shared under his community post several times, this goes to the Drow Historian fans who will now come to my blog to look at the 'jerk who ruined their favourite dnd youtuber's channel".

Even though he framed it like that on his post, it was NOT only me. It's false. I'm not the only artist affected by this, we were more than a dozen who had our art taken without being asked or credited. It was small Legend of Drizzt artists, as well as big names in the bg3 community. And all of them took action, not just me. I'm just being made into the scapegoat now because I was the first to address this situation.

And just so you're aware. I know that the Legend of Drizzt characters do not belong to me. I never stated that anywhere. But the art that I draw myself, does. It belongs to me. Even if it is fanart, it doesn't give anyone the right to just take it and use it for their own (monetized) purposes. It also doesn't matter what you might think of my art now, if its ugly or bad, it was still taken without my consent.

All of this could have been avoided if he simply issued an apology to the affected artists. If you cannot simply give credit to people's creations, it's on you. It's your fault. Don't expect artists to just be okay with it

Artists do art commissions exclusively for people who paid to share on their own accounts. He’s taking from indie artists who need to respect their clients wishes on how art they paid for is shared

Wizards of coast doesn’t blanket use fan art without permission or payment. If they don’t its because of legal and ethical reasons

fair use law isn’t international and is allowed to be challenged in US since its not blanket you can use it all whenever. Especially when videos are monetised or entertainment. If you didn’t ask permission youre not checking the laws from where the artist is from. Especially if they get told by companies to remove the fan art over copyright rights issues

Its been internet best manners to ask permission and credit first when it comes to indie art and fan art made by people. its the easiest step since forever. People have faced backlash for not crediting or getting permission before. If you don’t credit you look even more like you’re pretending its yours

If you run a popular monetised youtube channel commission the artists. Especially from smaller artists. If you have paid subscribers and business model you can afford this

There’s official art, promotional art, comic book art that’s far safer to use but you can still get challenged if it’s misused or they decide to. But thats very rare for wizards of coast to do this

Drizzt Thoughts (the first of many)

I love so many characters from the Legend of Drizzt, especially Drizzt himself, but I wanted to talk about my other favorite character (Jarlaxle, of course).

It is genuinely unreal how insane this character is. He's shaved his head bald, he wears an eyepatch that he switches between eyes, he cosplays as a pirate, he becomes a pirate, he starts a commercial business on the surface so he won't have to be around stupid drow politics, he's pansexual, he forms a deeply unhealthy homoerotic bond with an emotionally unstable assassin, he walks around wearing more magic items than some wizards will ever see in their lifetimes, he casually seduces dragons, his family tried to kill him when he was a baby, he formed another homoerotic bond with his best employee, he was briefly driven mad by an evil crystal, he becomes the secret ruler of a city just for shits and giggles, and if anyone ever accuses him of something slightly untoward he'll gasp and act like an innocent baby.

I do not exaggerate when I say than RA Salvatore broke the mold with this character. When I asked him about it at comic-con, he said he wanted him to be "like Batman's utility belt, a walking deus ex machina." No one does it like Jarlaxle. I love this character to an unreasonable degree.

He has so many great appearances across the series but I will always say that he and Artemis Entreri, and their relationship, peaked in the Sellswords trilogy. The chemistry they have is insane. They play off each other so well. Every page feels like they want to cut each other's throats one minute and have a sloppy makeout session the next. It's impossible not to ship these two while reading these books. They even have a messy breakup at the very end. "But I am your muse", "I don't like the songs you inspire" is a heartbreaking line. Everything about these two breaks my heart. I ship them so hard but I know that there's no way they could ever be together because of how toxic and broken they are and how they're both unable to form meaningful, lasting relationships because of everything they've been through (they eventually get better but again, peaked in Sellswords).

Anyway, Jarlaxle is the best, toxic yaoi between two emotionally disastrous people reigns supreme, and you should read Legend of Drizzt. It's only 39 books and counting, that's not too hard, right?
