Someday, Again - Jason Bayani
The only written versions of this poem I could find were in serif typefaces (think Times New Roman) and I thought the mention of it being written specifically in Arial (an aggressively sans-serif font) made that kind of strange. So I threw this together! Forgive the way fitting it on screen damaged the quality.

The ARC wasted 500 million dollars in donations after the 2010 quake. Haitians have requested specifically that NO donations be made to the ARC for Hurricane Matthew relief.

I've been trying to reflect on what my favorite moment has been during the past year working for Kearny Street Workshop for our #12DaysofKSWcampaign. And it's a little difficult for me to nail one down. This has been my first full year working here and I often can't believe that I get to do this as my job. I not only get to see great art, I'm witness to great art on the cusp. I see people work through things and witness the process of discovery. I'm exposed to so many different styles and disciplines. I get to experience the spectrum.
It wasn't too long ago I was in Austin and isolated from an Asian American arts community. I hope that's changing over there but this is the one I came from, that provided me with so many opportunities when I was first coming up, and this community is one I had lost a strong connection to long before I moved away. I don't always feel all the way back, but I feel like I'm back where I'm supposed to be. And I feel like I'm a better artist because of it, and maybe a better person, though these are always things that can be improved upon.
I want to keep doing this work and as a non-profit we can always use your help. We do a lot, from smaller readings to larger multi-event programs. And it's a little difficult to quantify when you consider that aside from the individual events we have a program like Interdisciplinary Writers Lab that meets weekly over the course of three months. It's a lot of work and it's pulled off by only two part-time staff members. We're trying to grow as an organization and that means taking care of our staff members and your help will allow us to do that, because we got so many dope programs coming up-- Celebrate Your Body is coming back, we're working with Richmond Area Multi-Services on a seven week photo documentation project where Asian Americans living with Mental Health issues will document and tell their stories, APAture is happening again, and so much more. So if you can help, awesome. If you can't right now or you already hooked us up during APAture, no worries, but if you can help me spread the word that'd be dope and maybe if you attended one of our events this year and you have a favorite memory you can share that as well with the #12DaysofKSW hashtag. A friend of mine shared this on Facebook, and I shared it too. But seeing as I have a lot more followers on tumblr than friends on Facebook, I thought I’d bring it here.
Will’s post really talked to my heart, because it’s exactly what it’s like to live in a gentrified neighborhood. Sure, my wall didn’t get painted on, but the feelings of entitlement that are held over you are universal. It’s very frustrating when people have been living in your neighborhood for less than 3 years and they act like you’re the new ones.
And let’s not even get into the comment section of this post! You cannot compare gentrification, which systemically kicks poor people (who are usually poc) out of their neighborhoods to “white flight”.
I’ll probably be reporting the bushwick flea’s Instagram if you need me, but please share his story.
