THIS IS THE SECOND PART OF A SERIES OF POSTS I'LL TRY TO MAKE DAILY. YOU CAN FIND PART 1 HERE. I SUGGEST READING IT FIRST AS IT PROVIDES IMPORTANT CONTEXT THAT I WILL NOT GO OVER HERE.
PART 1 CONTAINED DISCUSSIONS OF NAZISM AND IMAGERY ASSOCIATED WITH IT AS WELL AS NON-SEXUAL NUDITY. THIS PART CONTAINS DISCUSSIONS OF RACISM AND (CENSORED) SLURS. AS PREVIOUSLY STATED, IF THESE THINGS ARE NOT TOPICS YOU'RE IN THE HEADSPACE TO READ ABOUT, YOU CAN SKIP THIS POST. YOUR MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS.
the surrealism and fascism exhibit was intertwined with some other exhibition, and this was one of them. and let me tell you even though it technically took up less space than pretty much every other exhibition in the museum it still felt like a behemoth in comparison to them. none of the works had individual descriptions.
KWIEKULIK - AGREGAT AUTOBIOGRAFICZNY II/KWIEKULIK - AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL AGGREGATE II
yes! this is all one singular work. i didn't lump anything else in with this one, the aggregate is just that huge. and the best part? i probably didn't even take anywhere near the amount of pictures i could've taken. there was just SO. MUCH. SHIT on there. i think i could go in the nanosecond the museum opens, beeline towards the kwiekulik archive, scrutinize the hell out of this and still not be done by the time the museum closes. that being said, at first i thought the XO combined with "the art of the comment" roughly 6 lines above it were an allusion to the internet (see also the way polish people still use XD), but given that both kwiek and kulik grew up in the 1950s i'm starting to realize that might have been a bit of a foolish assumption. impy also complimented my photography on pic 2 so that's neat. przemysław kwiek i relate to you deeply. i, too, don't like how people have to work their asses off to stay alive. he kind of reminds me of what i've read from james harvey (artist for mighty jill off) in some strange way. feel free to harness the power of the sun and destroy me over that idk.
ARCHIWARIUM/ARCHIVARIUM
i'm sad!!!!! i'm fucking sad!!!!! cause i can't get in and peruse the archivarium!!!!!! but i guess it makes sense to lock the key since there's probably at least one person who'd be desperate to leave the museum with 20 kwiekulik pieces shoved up their ass. oh well! still looks pretty cool
AMBASADORZY PRZESZŁOŚCI II (MADE IN GDR, USSR, CZECHOSLOVAKIA AND POLAND) /AMBASSADORS OF THE PAST (MADE IN GDR, USSR, CZECHOSLOVAKIA AND POLAND)
i love love love how anachronistic it is. made in 2006 and 2024 (if i had to guess the pics were taken in 2006 and then collaged together in 2024), mentions countries that have long since stopped being a thing (technically not - the gdr simply merged with west germany to make, well, you know. germany, the ussr turned into russia, czechoslovakia turned into the czech republic and slovakia). the whole thing is about the past of the past of the past. i also like kwiek's dress. the whole set design is really whimsical actually, impy said it reminded her of alice in wonderland, and while that is a pretty apt comparison i feel like it's more reminiscent of what a polish person would dream about their parents' lives being like.
WAYS OF THE BLACK SPREAD OVER THE WHITE LAND
whereas kwiekulik archive was more or less optional, you had to go through this one to experience the full surrealism and antifascism exhibit. after the war, many african countries declared independence and exchanged ideas and inspirations with poland, which you'd think people would bring up more, but the last time a polish person said anything about black people it was a guy asking someone all the way back in animation school if they had black friends because they lived near a kfc, which is somehow the least racist thing i've heard from a polish person. crazy how the government will just memoryhole shit for fun.
KULTURA NISZCZĄCA/DESTRUCTIVE CULTURE by WIKTOR GUTT and WALDEMAR RANISZEWSKI
you know what they say: the eyes are the window to the soul. and the point of this work is to say "HEY DUMBASS. EVERYONE HAS A SOUL. AND YOUR SKIN TONE DOESN'T CHANGE THAT." which some people might find a little corny but it's still something that a lot of people seem to struggle with! plus the way they went about delivering that message is really effective in my opinion.
LEOPOLD TYRMAND ON POLISH JAZZ AFTER WORLD WAR II
this one is actually pretty different, as i... cannot show it to you! and this isn't a case of "oh this is a work i couldn't photograph" i mean it is Sound. it is a Guy Talking, and i didn't record any of it (i was too busy listening to it while walking around the room it was in and also not knowing how one would go about recording it). you may notice this is the first time i censored anything on a description, and that's because it's a slur. i felt that the word used in it's place in the original polish description was a slur for a while now, but just in case i decided to consult this case with 2 of my black friends, and the consensus is that while saying it in reference to the spanish word for black is fine, using it to refer to a black person is pretty fucking racist, and that it should be fine if you're just quoting someone who said it. either way i decided to censor it because i just Can't Fucking Say It. I'm White As Shit.
PAUL ROBESON by TEODORA DĄBROWSKA
i don't really have much to say about this, he just looks like a nice guy. looks like he's squinting his eyes a little maybe.
POMÓŻCIE MU/HELP HIM by JÓZEF KALISZAN
it's not like the mother begging someone to help their poor, innocent child is a new motif in art. it's probably been around for eons, really! but what's different this time is that the woman's asking for help with the child because of something you cannot, no matter which way you twist it, convince anyone that it's at fault for.
MASK OF THE GELEDE ASSOCIATION AND MOLD FOR CASTING PLASTER COPIES OF IT DESIGNED BY KAZIMIERZ HASKA FROM THE CONSERVATION DEPARTMENT OF THE MUSEUM OF WESTERN POMERANIA
so, you can't yell racial slurs. that's a bummer ain't it! but fear not! noone said you can't be vaguely fascinated with the other! in fact, you can call it exotic! and replicate it's elements for big money!!!! capitalism loves to find a way to monetize what it can't outright destroy.
i hit the image limit so i'm gonna have to end this part here, i'll try to post the next part tomorrow!
As someone whos been a binding of isaac fan for about 5 years, and who started getting into mewgenics about a month after release, Im so glad people are coming around to Magdeline. I always thought it was a little weird that all the blame was placed on her in Isaacs story and that his father was treated like a saint when he LEFT THEM, especially after repentace when we realize that he left AFTER thibgs started to get bad with Maggie and she started to lean into a type of religious psycosis, not before. That detail, to me, reframes his whole character from 'dad who just couldn't stand by mom anymore' to 'guy abandoning his son with someone who clearly needs help which isolated them both further'.
Not to say that Maggie is innocent, hell no, but im so glad were looking at her as a whole person now.
I hate you Ozempic craze I hate you 'heroin chic' I hate you weight loss ads on public radio I hate Burn Fat Fast ads every thirty seconds I hate you I hate you I hate you
I grew up before the term 'thigh gap' was invented I grew up before 'hip dip' was invented I was born before 'muffin top' was a thing before 'clean girl look' was a thing before 'glass skin' was a thing before razoring off peach fuzz was a thing and I'm so so so fucking tired of us inventing new concepts purely for the purpose of convincing people to hate their own bodies enough to buy products
Last time Tuberculosis ran through the USA a small number of people got it on purpose to look skinny and waifish and delicate and used makeup to look flushed and bony and when the Victorians figured out tapeworms people would infect themselves on purpose to starve themselves smaller and women and now in the year of our lord 2026 there is a noticeable fraction of the USAmerican population genuinely thrilled about a treatment-resistant microbial parasite that makes you shit and vomit your brains out for a month because side effects include weight loss and STILL we talk about being skinny like it's the natural default setting for all healthy people as if it's a self-sustaining standard and not an imaginary goal that we are constantly constantly constantly beating ourselves with a whip to acheive
It’s odd when men blame women for the “male loneliness epidemic” because oftentimes men are lonely in their own friend groups. Of course you’re lonely dude, your friends know literally nothing about you. You haven’t had a vulnerable moment with them ever. They don’t even know your surname. Instead of leaning on a random woman go lean on your buddies bro
He didn't steal 10 million dollars. They made that number up as a loss, they never fucking had it. Rockstar has spent more than a billion fucking dollars on GTA VI and will likely make billions more when it gets released.
Uber is a fucking shell game of a company designed to leech investor capital and output bootleg cabs.
Nvidia posted a profit in 2023 of $4.37 billion. This is like someone stealing less than a penny from me.
And they lock this kid in a prison hospital for LIFE?
What with GTA VI going up for pre-order i'd just like to remind everyone that rockstar conspired with the UK government to lock an 18-year-old away for life for hacking them.
"I am not a vessel for your good intent" goes hard as a line from a disabled perspective. Abled people care so much more about being their idea of a good ally than they do actually being a good ally. They shove their good intent right down your throat and then act surprised when you tell them they're suffocating you.
[ID: An image of a sign with a blue background and with a graphic of a stick figure in a wheelchair at the beginning, resembling disabled parking space signs. The text below the stick figure reads "I am not a vessel for your good intent." /ID]
you might remember the time i went to the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. if you don't, the post i linked isn't TECHNICALLY required reading but it's the post where i settled on the format you'll see in this post and gives additional context that you might find interesting and will more than likely make it more enjoyable.
DO NOTE THAT THIS POST CONTAINS:
DISCUSSIONS OF NAZISM AND IMAGERY ASSOCIATED WITH IT
NON-SEXUAL NUDITY
IF ANY OF THIS IS SOMETHING YOU'RE NOT IN THE HEADSPACE TO LOOK AT OR READ ABOUT, YOU CAN SKIP THIS POST. YOUR MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS.
FOREWORD
yes bro i'm putting a foreword in my tumblr post i dont't give a FUCK!!!!!
with that being said, i spend nearly all day in the museum for one very good reason: there was so much art that i honestly considered throwing in the towel on making this post at all since it'd take an absurd amount of time to think of something to say about every piece i took a photo of. and the best part?
there's still MORE than what i took photos of! but you'd have to go see it yourself! either way though: since i considered making a tumblr post to be off the table, i figured i should instead go through my photos and present the works that i actually have things to say about to my friend @gimpyimpy (she's also the reason why i decided to do this despite because she is fucking awesome and cool like that. i'm also stealing some of her commentary because fuck you i don't care i'm evil)
ok now onto the post
IN THE VERY BOWELS OF CHANGE: SURREALISM AND ANTIFASCISM
i'm by no means a history buff, but the polish were among the people hitler wanted to kill the most. which, of course, means i know a couple things about world war 2. at least i think so. this exhibition (and all the others, save for one) were divided into chapters but i'm not gonna bother with that because it's booboo baby shit and also i think that would just clutter the post even more.
PRZYJAŹŃ (POMNIK PRZYJAŹNI POLSKO-RADZIECKIEJ) by ALINA SZAPOCZNIKOW
close friends of mine might know me as a vehement fujoshi. and i'm proud to say i lived up to that title because my first instinct was to think "YAOI YAAAY!!!!" which. it probably isn't. and i think a lot of people would get mad at me for doing this because You Are Literally Polish Why Are You Shipping Your Country With The Soviets. because it's fucking FUN okay.
POUPEE 2 by CLAUDE CAHUN
to me, the notable thing about this is that the use of newspaper almost feels like it's foreshadowing jamie reid's method of collaging bits and pieces of newspaper together in his graphic design. i don't think i have much to say about this, but L'Humanite, which makes up the doll's body, is something to be kept in mind.
LA NUAGE ARTICULATE by WOLFGANG PAALEN
first things first: this is actually a copy! as for how accurate it is i can't tell because i didn't know wolfgang paalen personally. it's good enough for it to catch my eye though. at first i thought it was covered in foam but apparently it's sponges! which, of course, begs the question: why? isn't an umbrella supposed to keep the water? yeah but this isn't for human use so i don't care.
TETE DE L'ANGE DU FOYER by MAX ERNST
what the hell? that's an angel? that doesn't look like an angel at all! that looks like some sort of demon from hell! which makes sense, because if this is any angel, it's one of death and destruction, both of which are things that are generally frowned upon. impy noted that it looks like it's absorbing itself, possibly turning to itself after destroying everything else and still feeling the urge to destroy.
LE BON EUROPEEN by ANDRE MASSON
to me, the title (The Good European) calls to mind when members of marginalized groups call themselves "one of the good ones" when trying to suck up to people in power who more often than not couldn't care less and would revel in killing them.
UNTITLED by ESTEBAN FRANCES
one of the many untitled pieces in this exhibitions, and there's no description either! at first i started out looking for art in order to accumulate a shitton of reference material and inspiration, and while that has mostly taken a backseat in favor of just Experiencing Things, this is a piece that really struck me. wonderful wonderful stuff. i should steal some techniques for when i draw stuff that happens at night.
CABEZA DE CABALLO by PABLO PICASSO
honestly i don't have much to add here. i guess it was refreshing to see something i could recognize as a proper Thing that Exists but also it's Pablo Fucking Picasso. that man is despicable in ways that i don't think i can get into here. so i don't think i can add much else
JOHN BANTING by HUMPHREY SPENDER
i love this picture because if i were to get around to drawing something political it'd probably be something like this. it gives me a hearty laugh. i fuck with all the art of your cart toon characters killing nazis but i think we also need silly stuff like this. or not cause that guy got arrested for doing this!!!!!
WILDER AUFBRUCH and 1945 by HANNAH HOCH
i actually saw 1945 first, and i immediately thought it looked like 2 people trying to rest after something difficult and stressful. i'd like to note the bluish figure assuming a more animalistic form in Savage Outbreak combined with how ready it is to run away from danger. as for hoch herself (AND THIS WILL BE LARGELY UNRELATED TO THE PIECE I JUST DON'T KNOW WHERE TO PUT IT), despite people (MOSTLY) claiming to vehemently hate the nazis, the way they called artists like her "degenerate" and showed their works to others, talking about how they felt horror and disgust while simultaneously making exhibits for them reminds me of how in modern day you have (had? i don't see this kind of thing anymore) people making entire videos and livings off of just pointing at fetish art and going "WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!" as if they're not more than likely the sole reason why their audiences were exposed to these kinds of things.
after seeing a couple more pieces that i don't feel i have enough to say about, i found myself in a wooden room with a view of the city. of course, i wasn't tired yet, so i figured i should just open the door. and on the other side i saw this.
LE DEMI-POUPEE by HANS BELLMER
notably, this is actually based on an earlier work of bellmer's, referred to as The Doll. either way, i didn't know that when i saw it, so all i could really pick up was "oh! that's a commentary on men's subjugation of women!" which is a theme that'll show up in another piece of his. i like the one singular boob, it reminds me of how a young boy who's just getting started drawing his faps would draw breasts. impy noted that the doll's shape kind of reminded her of a penis too, which makes sense. phallic imagery and all that. the way it also represents a fragmented past in the form of a doll with body parts that aren't in the right places kind of reminds me (at the cost of revealing my hand, which is that of an evil ass zoomer) of the backrooms movie.
SANS TITRE (FEMMES CORDES) by HANS BELLMER
i didn't pay much mind to this until i read the plaque next to it and realized what the subject matter was. unfortunately most of my commentary after that came down to "oh so it's kinda like mighty jill off." because i'm autistic like that. with that being said when i started talking about it with impy i quickly realized Oh! It's about women being subjugated by men and being treated as if they were nothing but fuckmeat! Okay!
HERMAPHRODITE by HANS BELLMER
people would have you believe that any form of queerness came about in the 2010s, which'll probably be pushed into the 2020s, 2030s etc etc as time goes on. but it turns out that hans bellmer asked himself the question of "what if a girl had a weewee" all the way in (by my estimation; this piece was not dated) the 1940s! (he definitely asked himself that between his birth in 1902 and his death in 1975, both of which are not very close to the 2010s). i'd also like to note the way the girl almost looks like she has no skin to speak of, only muscles, which i think makes the piece all the more intimate.
WURZELLABIRYNTH by HEINZ TROKES
please god deltarune fans get in on this. it's literally a labirynth made of roots. guys. please. that being said it also kinda looks like lungs, with some of the roots looking like veins and arteries. interesting!
O TANNENBAUM IN DEUTSCHE RAUM, WIE KRUMM SIND DEINE ASTE! by JOHN HEARTFIELD
if i had to assign meaning to this, i'd tell you it's probably about the nazis deciding that religion is an incredibly silly thing that germany doesn't need. they're the ubermensch after all, the overman, the ideal human beings! they don't need some bullshit like GOD.... and while i do have my own thoughts on religion i do need to say they were really fucking stupid about it.
LE MINOTAURE OU LE DICTATEUR by ERWIN BLUMENFELD
i actually thought this was made of 2 works, this one and Grauenfresse (which if tumblr is nice to me i'll go over later). but it isn't! that being said i do enjoy the fact that while the minotaur is menacing, it also does just kind of look like a dumb animal. kinda reflects how people see hitler, and probably how they saw him back then as well. a dipshit who's using his power to destroy everything in sight.
GRAUENFRESSE by ERWIN BLUMENFELD
it's easy to see what blumenfeld meant by this. hitler, having killed so many people, could easily pass as the face of death, and what better way to represent that than to literally make him a skull? that being said something about this reminds me a lot of early internet horror and creepypastas. stuff like dead bart. people loved their skulls back in the day.
THERE'S STILL PLENTY OF SHIT I CAN SHOW BUT !!!!! I HAVE TO GATHER MY THOUGHTS. SO I'LL PROBABLY GET TO IT TOMORROW
My favs are Hermaphrodite and Sans Titre heehee. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TALKING TO ME ABOUT THESEE HEHEHEHE they have been such big inspirations and interesting joys to see!!! Its almost like I went to the museum myself hehehe.

ok but if you go to the actual article the person was buried with women’s accessories and in the manner reserved for women and from that they decided it must be a gay man which is sort of hilarious
So basically what you have here is a skeleton of someone that we’d assign CAMAB in modern, binarist colonial societies
being presented with accoutrements and signs of social recognition that are legible to us in said societies as “female” due to their association with skeletons we’d parse as CAFAB in the same cultural tradition
and the take is “it’s a gay man”
And yet people don’t wanna listen when you point out that part of transmisogyny is assuming that trans women are just weird men
like people just don’t think that’s a thing or the statement bounces off because they literally can’t see how it could be otherwise
I'm gonna say it, I do think that even the laziest person imaginable should have a roof over their head, food in their stomach, and access to healthcare
it doesn't matter which country we're talking about here, if someone from any country in the world says "oh where i am from there is simply no racism", you not only shouldn't believe them, but you should actually never take them seriously about anything ever again.
