I have NEVER been more proud of @taylorswift than I was watching that speech. Not to say that I haven’t been proud during these 13 years but the level of security, taking-no-nonsense from anbody, self love and empowerment is absolutely refreshing and so important in all our lives. After almost 9 hours, I can finally listen to Lover. This will be a thread for my initial thoughts of each song.
I forgot that you existed: My favorite part of the song is the fact that @taylorswift speaks the word “indifference”. She is not sugar coating anything: “It isn’t love, it isn’t hate”. She is plainly stating a fact. She’s grown up and she knows now what it is: “And I thought that it would kill me, but it didn’t”.
Special mention: The little bouts of laughter throughout the song and the “so yeah” at the end. Girl’s grown up and she knows it!
Cruel Summer: At first I thought it was going to be quite sad, but after listening to it, I am a bit torn. Yes, it has some sad aspects to it, however, at the same time, I feel like it is a bit hopeful. Yes it was a cruel summer, yes she was a bit apprehensive at first, but she is willing to try.
Special Mention: The bridge is really good and the part where she screams: gold! Also, you can definitely sense a St. Vincent influence, especially here in the bridge.
Lover: I mean, what more can I say about Lover that I haven’t said before. This song is a masterpiece. The harmonies, the melody, the lyrics, the BRIDGE. It is perfect all around.

But you need to fight for what you want and for what you believe in. That is best explained in the bridge: “And I’ll never let you (Go) ‘cause I know this is a (Fight), That someday we’re gonna (Win)”.

Even though both of them are committed to one another, is always important to be vulnerable with your partner.

However, I was not expecting this song to hit so hard. The soft melodies. Dixie Chicks. The lyrics. The way Taylor wrote the song made me feel like I was there in that doctor’s office.
Special Mention: The chorus is so simple but it’s so poignant, “Cause you have to.”

Afterglow: This album is dedicated to Love and to me love without vulnerability and showcasing your insecurities to your significant other is nothing. You can’t be perfect all the time for someone. And that is what she is telling him here in this song. She is accepting that sometimes it’s been her fault “it’s on me”, “it’s in my head”, but like always she is willing to fight “meet me in the afterglow.”
Special mention: the falsetto is pure F I R E!

Daylight: Two words came to mind when I first listened to this song: uplifting and hopeful. An excellent choice to tie up this album. Recalling the prologue from Red: “Real love shines golden like starlight, and doesn’t fade or spontaneously combust. Maybe I’ll write a whole album about that kind of love if I ever find it.” And find it, she did.
