Learning another language on top of being in a multilingual household is so funny,, i forget the word for station in spanish but remember it in french (which I'm learning). I forget the phrase in english but its okay i remember it in spanish (it doesn't make sense in Spanish). My sibling cant remember how to say that except for in korean (which they taught themselves) . my tata calls a fan "the ventilator" & I think he's just being weird but then I go to class & oh yeah. call it ventilator,,, there's no other word for it in Czech. or that time my tata made up a word ("pantufla" - slipper) as a joke on Spanish, my ama thought it was a Czech/dutch word, and my tata. Forgot he made it up? My sibling & I learned it & thought it was a legit word. And we all did not put it together until like last year 😭!!! I thought pantufla was a real word!!!!
A lot of people treat it like a joke or straight up get defensive about it but most world building flaws literally come from the author having a very US/Europe centric view of the world.
This isn't just "think about where the potatoes and coffee come from in your world". This is also about fantasy worlds set in Earth too. The way JK Rowling designed her world so that England has it's own school but has Latin America, Africa and Asia share one school each is heavily influenced by her english centric view of the world around her. Or how she never took two seconds to think about how magic works in different cultures, or how she never explains why the indigenous communities of America didn't fight back against colonizers using magic, or how she decided that european colonizers "civilized" African wizards by teaching them how to use wands. Her way of seeing the rest of the world and obvious rejection to educating herself about other countries influences her world building.
The same happens with Rick Riordan. His entire magical world (which primarily deals with the GREEK gods) revolves solely around the United States. And the reason he gives is literally just "the US is the most important country currently so that's where the gods went". Camp Half-blood is literally located in NEW YORK. Demi gods from other countries are never explored or even mentioned in anyway whatsoever. The wide spread usamerican belief that they are the most important country in the world heavily influences how Rick Riordan (and most usamerican writers) do world building.
"making them afraid will make them more racist" that's wild to me, because we live in a whole culture of social consequences for antiracism anyway. It is literally safer to be a racist than it is to speak up against it, socially.
Idk about you, but "I'm afraid no one will want to be my friend if I'm a white supremacist" seems like a pretty logical thought process to have, and I wish THAT were the normal and not "I'm afraid my friends will hate me if I tell them they made racist jokes".

I'm a trans woman living with my Two-Spirit partner. I'm the bread-maker but we have been living paycheck to paycheck for a good long while. There are some serious expenses looming the next few months as I have the privilege of being a boardmember of the an HOA. The property's roof has ended it's life cycle and they are moving forward with replacing it. Every boardmember has to pay their share in a 3-month payment installments totalling out to $5,000. Payments being collected next month in July.
I was able to take out a loan for half while still keeping my head above water with what I earn and owe, but I'm stretched thin and need to make more money with side gigs. I need to make about an extra $800 a month for 3 months to keep up with this.
Food budget is supplemented by plasma donations, around $110 week, if I'm consistent with it. Might be able to use some of that money if I'm smart with what we cook and eat.
Beyond that, all the extra work I can do is either Uber deliveries while gas is the most expensive it's ever been, or try to take up a local weekend job and work 7 days a week to make ends meet. Did that once before and it felt like I lost time and memories.
And so I ask for your help. My partner's GFM link has the overall total to wipe the debt and supplement other bills/provide a cushion, but even an overall total of $800 will tremendously as I get to work collecting the other $1600. Anything helps, please.

So, this is why I died for like a month lol. This is DREAMLAND, a very, very weirdly put together visual novel about disassociation that came to me three years ago while chilling at the beach listening to glass animals music lol. And I made a demo for it to see if people are intrested!!! Yey!!!!
The game is kind of bad lol, it's my first ever videogame and I can't code. I also have no idea what I'm doing whatsoever but I wanted to try something new. It's inspired by vaporwave aesthetics and it runs on Android (or iphone if you figure out how to run kocho on that. Or anything as long as you can run kocho). And it's completely and totally free!!!!
The demo comes with day 0 and day 1, and you have several options you can pick! So make sure you make different save files if you want to see all the different routes. They don't have much impact on the current demo but they do have some cool dialoge and they will affect the final game.

DREAMLAND DEMO DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS:
Ok so I'm a dumbass and used an obsolete software that won't let me export to APK format since their conversion site is dead. So we gotta use the original software to run it:
1- Download the Kocho app. I provide a clean file for it but if it seems too sketchy it doesn't matter if you get it from any other website. Do be warned it is no longer available on Apple Store or Play Store as, again, it's obsolete and not getting updates so it was taken down. Android users will have it easy to find it, apple users, I have no idea how but if you manage to run it, you should have no problems. I have no idea on how someone on pc would emulate this app but if you manage it, you should also be allowed to play it just fine
2- Download the file DREAMLAND DEMO. That's the game. It's a .kocho file. There is only one file, it doesn't matter what system you run, it works the same as long as you have the kocho app for your operative system.
3- Upon loading the kocho app, you will start on the "home page". It will be loading. It will continue to be loading forever so don't wait for it to do so. This page is meant for their public servers which again, has been taken down. Instead you want to go to the LIBRARY tab
4- Click the plus icon on the LIBRARY tab and search for the DREAMLAND DEMO.kocho file. It will take a minute to load up. When it's over it will apear as its own little app. Click that normally.
That's all!!! Do know you can use the menu to save at certain points of the story so you can return to them later (not of much use on the demo since it's extremely short but I recommend using them on multiple choice to be able to see all the options!!!!)
Also please report any bugs to me!!! Known bugs so far are delay/not matching between SFX for the character's voices and the text box, this is because the engine literally won't let me fix this and the workaround I did is less than satisfactory. I will open a doc file for bugs soon
