Hwoarang fucks like he fights; eager, aggressive, and thorough. Hand-to-hand, a decent portion of his goal is not only to win, but to dominate his opponent so there is no mistake about who’s the better of the two. They’ll be feeling a bout with him for a while afterwards, and because of this, they’ll remember it (and, by extension, him) for longer still. Maybe he’ll become this untouchable thing and have flattering rumors about his combat prowess spread around by the defeated party; maybe they’ll come back for another round. In either case, it works for him. Same goes in the bedroom. He’ll take control the second he’s able to, and do anything it takes to ensure that a partner remembers a night with him in the very best way possible.
It’s just as easy to get him excited as it is to trigger that notoriously hot temper of his (though it’s often much more…subdued, than his anger), and perhaps the best way to go about it is allowing him to show off a little. Doesn’t even have to be a major thing he’s showcasing. Anything from flexing under someone’s touch to that someone asking for a demo of the abilities he’s so proud of–or even requesting a ride on the bike. Whatever; that kind of stuff makes him giddy without fail.
He’s a quick learner, provided he takes a hands-on approach to the subject matter at hand. Reading about something, or hearing about it through word of mouth is a great introduction; hell, he could do either one multiple times, and whatever subject matter he’s working with wouldn’t sink in quite as well as it would if he got his hands on something. This is one of the reasons he has taken to martial arts so quickly/easily–you can’t learn by reading or listening to someone’s explanation. You have to do it.
He’ll also pick things up quicker if he’s working on his own or one-on-one with a knowledgeable person. In a group (ie. 3 or more people), there’s a lot of opportunity for distraction–people talk and get sidetracked when there are a bunch of them together– and it’s too difficult for him to concentrate on whatever he’s supposed to be doing.
Hwoarang is not a religious man in the slightest. It was never a major part of his life–a little exposure here and there, but nothing concrete–and for a while, he was purely neutral towards anything and everything that had to do with it. To some people, it’s everything, and–well, as long as no one’s forcing their views on others (himself especially), then hey, more power to them. Should someone decide that he, too, should follow the belief system they do, then he’ll gladly dig his heels in and punch holes through whatever tale they spew at him, but otherwise, he’s entirely neutral towards the subject.
While he’s certainly not a stranger to one-night stands, a legitimate relationship is a fair ways out of his circle of knowledge. There is nothing about tied down that is appealing to him; maybe because he hasn’t found the right person, maybe because he isn’t that sort of person, but whatever the case, he’ll generally shy away from romance. Should someone manage to break through that shell of his, though–well, nothing much changes. A partner will still be picked on (playfully, as he does with the rest of his friends), he’ll still be rather grating and temperamental at times. The only real differences are the fact that he’ll hold their hand or/and give ‘em a kiss from time to time.
In essence, a romantic relationship with him will ultimately be a friends with benefits sort of thing, with his chosen partner being the only friend with those benefits.
Hwoarang is not the easiest person to befriend. He is loud, reckless, aggressive (to an extent, at least), and combative. He’s fond of teasing and picking on others; sometimes in jest, sometimes as a way to elicit some sort of reaction, sometimes just for the hell of it. And he runs with a rough crowd in what spare time he has. There is also the fact that, prior to Baek’s entrance into his life, he’s been on his own in nearly all aspects. Nearly he does, he does by and for himself, leaving him rather closed off to others who may wish to grow closer to him. Attempts to do so will have him growing rather defensive and end with the culprit being called, in perhaps more colorful terms, nosy. So, it is a difficult feat. That said, though, it is certainly not impossible. It just takes a few…tricks.
A good place to start is simple enough: don’t put up with his crap. This doesn’t mean try to censor or change him; hell no, that will blow up in one’s face in no time flat, as he doesn’t take too kindly to things like that. No, what this means is, when he resorts to the aforementioned teasing and picking, either tell him to knock it off once one’s tolerance is reaching its end, or give it right back to him. Don’t let him taunt or put you down. Just getting in his face about it doesn’t do jack. You have to be able to back up whatever talk you throw out there. That especially will grab his attention, as he’s drawn to strong, confident people who know what they can do. From there, it’s on to the basics: show an interest in stuff he likes and in his life as a whole, spend time with him, talk to him about this and that and encourage him to do the same. It’ll take a while, but eventually he’ll come around.
And when he does, one will have a friend for life – provided no one decides to jab a knife in his back. That does tend to put a damper on the whole ‘friendship’ thing. But, without all that nonsense coming into play, he’s got your back. No matter what.
If you are not Baek, and the building in which Hwoarang currently resides is not on fire, do not wake him before 9AM–and that’s being incredibly generous, as far as time goes. Left to his own devices, he’ll snooze on and off ‘till 11, as it’s hardly unheard of that he was out and about that night prior, doing God knows what until the early hours of the morning. A bit of a night owl, this boy.
Thanks to his art of choice, he’s kept away from the bad habits picked up by many of his usual peers; frequent and excessive drinking, smoking, that sort of thing. Smoking and Taekwondo do not mix; he would have spent a majority of his training time hacking up a lung if that were the case, and he’s known this for a while, so he avoids it. And on top of that, smoking would put him at a disadvantage when facing Jin (and anyone else who comes along–but mostly Jin), and like hell is he gonna let that happen.
