ABQ - first 2 weeks
This first entry will be a bit descriptive as it'll include 2 weeks worth of details! Hopeully the blog will pick up after this one...or I'll just stop writing it.... So, I've been in Albuquerque for just over 2 weeks and things have been pretty hectic trying to get everything set up. I arrived on a Wednesday night, picked up a nice Subaru Legacy from the airport and stayed a night at the Extended Stay Deluxe hotel - sounds great doesn't it? Luckily my stay wasn't too extended... The next morning I moved into my apartment in The Aspens (we're there man) and switched cars into a Chevrolet Malibu. Apartment was nice, if a little bare. So a trip to Target/Walmart was on the cards. Getting only the essentials (incl Golden Tee, Breaking Bad season 1 and beer) I began putting my own stamp on the apartment/bachelor pad! That first weekend I partied hard and had laughs with all the people I knew here.....which added up to a grand total of zero. So I stayed in my apartment most of the weekend, only venturing out to sample the gym at my apartment complex, and struggled downtown to watch a soccer game at the university (GO LOBOS). My first few trips to the gym were not as successful as first hoped. First time there I lasted 7 whole minutes on an exercise bike...at which point my heart was beating out of my chest, my lungs were burning on a par with my quads and my head was spinning - no, I will not be attempting spinning out here. Since then it has improved, I'm hitting the 30 minute mark! But my main cardio will hopefully come from football. I've found a team that plays in an indoor astro league, they're all Irish lads from Intel and the league is very competitive. They've also pointed me in the direction of an 11-a-side team, so fingers crossed I'll be playing plenty! To the fun stuff! The nightlife! Last weekend I went out with an Irish guy who had just landed over. We hit the Nob Hill area of town - turned out to be a pretty good night, plenty of bars along one main street. The weekend just past, a group of us went out for dinner to Tucanos Brazilian Grill. It was epic, waiters/waitresses come round to your table with massive skewers of various meats and cut you some of you want it. The selection is tremendous. Will definitely be going back there, their cocktails are good too! After that we went to a micro-brewery for a pint of Ale, which was nice but the place was very quiet. On Saturday night we went out with lads from the football - good craic if a bit heavy. All good fun though! This weekend we are planning a road trip to Phoenix, Arizona to see our mates down there. Should be fun! Work has started well, still finding my feet to some extent - getting used to it! Weather has been perfect...cooling down a bit but hopefully won't get too cold. My shipping arrived this morning, so it feels a little more like home with my guitars etc. but still missing everyone back home. Keep an eye out for my blogs coming up this week from the Balloon Fiesta and Phoenix as well as updates on all things JC in ABQ! Peace & Love J
