btw the most gutwrenching thing about the last days of judas iscariot is that historically, nobody ever really thought about what a burial for judas would look like. there are thousands of stories about him and different interpretations of what his life and afterlife looked like, but a burial is never part of this. this is most likely because a burial implies that somebody cared enough about you to bury you, and judas had nobody who loved him left after his betrayal. why should anybody put in the effort to dig a grave for a traitor who killed himself? and then you open up the last days of judas iscariot and the first scene is a description of his burial by his mother. I buried my son. In a potter’s field. In a field of Blood. In empty, acrid silence. There was no funeral. There were no mourners. His friends all absent. His father dead. His sisters refusing to attend. I discovered his body alone, I dug his grave alone, I placed him in a hole and covered him with rock and dirt alone.
