happy birthday, nobara-san. đ«
dakota and tucker make so much sense to me aaaah
my nucleus accumbens is literally addicted to the backing vocals in MOTION. Absolute peak music.
Is it just me, or do you also have a strangerâs online account that you run to when the weight of everything becomes too much to carry?
Whenever I feel physically and emotionally spent from the heavy, unspoken expectations of real life, my instinct is to retreat online. People always tell you to touch grass when you need a break from the noise. It is the go-to advice for burnout. However, I have come to believe that this philosophy can actually work in reverse. Sometimes we need to untouch some grass for a brief moment just to catch our breath. The physical world can be so demanding, and stepping away from it into a digital corner is occasionally the only way to find solitude.
In my case, I always find myself returning to a specific creator on Instagram and TikTok whose handle is gregory.nyc. Scrolling through his feed genuinely calms my nervous system in a way few other things can. His posts encourage me to actually sit with my raw emotions until they naturally fade away. This is a massive shift for me, because my usual coping mechanism is to keep myself artificially busy with household chores or force endless distractions just to avoid what I am currently feeling.
His content is incredibly simple, consisting of portrait-oriented videos captured entirely from his point of view. You never see his face and you never hear his voice. Instead, the feed is a collection of low exposure, elegant snapshots of everyday life paired softly with Taylor Swift songs playing in the background. Yet somehow, that exact combination acts like a deeply personal therapy session. It gently pushes me to stop bottling things up inside, all without demanding that I explain myself or put my heavy feelings into words.
This whole experience made me realize something much larger about the digital age, specifically that social media is not inherently evil.
I rarely speak ill of social media these days because doing so would feel entirely hypocritical. The internet is not a monolith, rather, it is a mirror. The experience really comes down to personal discipline and how you actively choose to curate your digital space. It requires teaching yourself not to let online envy or worldly desires take over to the point where you lose sight of reality and its tangible consequences. When you use these platforms with intention, a screen can actually offer a sanctuary right when you need it most.
Iâm rewatching Secrets of the Silent Witch right now and my heart is just⊠full-on melting. đ©đ This is my second time going through it, and I swear I adore her even more now than I did the first time!! How can someone be a legendary, super-genius chantless mage but ALSO the most adorable, shyest little bean in existence?! Even though I already know every single detail of her story, every time she comes on screen, I get those exact same butterflies and excitement all over again.
I don't know what it is, but I feel so ridiculously attached to her character. Sheâs just so relatable, so precious, and I want to protect her with all my heart.
Honestly, I still canât believe Iâm actually typing this, but we just opened our inbox and the email is in: our thesis is officially approved. đ After months of staring at the same document until my eyes blurred, stressing over both the supervisor and our research adviserâs feedback, living on way too much caffeine, and constantly refreshing our emails expecting the worst... itâs finally over. Seeing that approval message sitting in the inbox was the weirdest mix of instant relief, shock, and complete numb joy. Iâm so ridiculously grateful for my groupmates for not losing their minds with me and for everyone who had to listen to us panic for the past year. We freaking made it.
A month ago, I put Noah Kahanâs song Orbiter on my Instagram bio.
It started when I found out a few of my friends were going through mental health struggles they couldn't bring themselves to say out loud. It hurt me to realize how little I actually knew about what they were carrying. We are all health-allied college students, so I guess we fall into this unspoken trap where nobody wants to burden anyone else because we assume we're all already overloaded. Before I knew the truth, I always saw them as the happy ones. It completely broke my heart to realize how hard they were trying to hide behind silly faces and jokes we shared over lunch or right after class. It changed how I view happiness entirely.
Around the same time I learned Amanda was seeing a psychologist for weekly therapy, I ordered Keri Smithâs Wreck This Journal. I had it shipped from overseas, and I finally handed it to her on July 22nd, our last day of the Summer Term.
Then, on July 25th at exactly 11:11, she sent me screenshots of a long note she wrote in her phone. One phrase stood out, written right there in red:
âThank you for being part of the reason I'm still here.â
Angel numbers aside, reading those words gave me this physical drop in my chest, followed by a wave of warmth I can't even describe. A sudden urge to just break down and ugly cry came out of nowhere. It hit me how close she was to slipping away, and how much it mattered that I was just there for her.
I don't know what else I can do or how to fix things, but I just know I can't lose her. I want her to stay with us. I love my Amanda so much.
so i was scrolling on the clock app the other night like any normal person avoiding their responsibilities, and this random video popped up ranking womenâs favorite male anime characters. right there at 10th place was sebastian from black butler. now, i can't even lie, it made me double-take. he just looked so insanely respectable standing there in his suit and tie with that whole calm, aristocratic aura going on. it made me genuinely curious if he actually deserved that spot or if people were just hype-train riding. so, natural human instinct took over and i decided to start the anime just to see what the noise was about.
fast forward to me getting completely pulled in from episode one because holy shit, he is so much more than just a pretty face. heâs majestic, insanely clever, and honestly i don't even think there are enough actual words in the dictionary to describe him properly. i know some people tend to find certain anime guys cringe or overly arrogant, but sebastian doesn't hit like that at all. heâs just extremely composed and deeply respectable, to the point where 10th place honestly feels like a robbery because he deserves to be way higher up on that list. like, if weâre being 100% real here, he is the definition of husband material. someone you tie the knot with and then immediately gatekeep for the rest of your natural life so no one else can have him.
at this point black butler has officially taken over my brain and become my absolute top favorite anime, hands down. but the moment my jaw literally dropped into the floor was when i looked it up and realized there are FIVE whole seasons plus specials. like, it is THAT good. good, good. the fact that i have so much content left to binge is giving me a renewed desire to live. good heavens, iâm about to lock myself in my room and watch every single second of it and nobody can stop me.
Yâall, I need to publicly apologize to myself because why did I let The Case Study of Vanitas sit on my watchlist collecting virtual dust for so long?! I finally hit play and I am literally SICK TO MY STOMACH that I was sleeping on this absolute masterpiece. The steampunk 19th-century Paris vibe? Immaculate. The visual storytelling? Pure cinema. Bones Studio was in the kitchen cooking absolute gourmet and I was out here ignoring the whole feast! đ„
The dynamic between Vanitas and NoĂ© is single-handedly carrying my entire dopamine supply right now. The ostentatious drama, the sexual tension, the insane fight choreography, and Yuki Kajiuraâs soundtrack absolute slaps. Iâm officially revoking my own privileges to make watchlist decisions because leaving peak fiction on read for years is actually wild. If you havenât watched it yet, take this as your sign to start right nowâdo NOT make the same mistake I did!
Honestly, seeing that ISS post completely wrecked me, and Iâm still trying to process why a fictional character has this much power over my actual life. I have literally cried multiple times over Satoru, and if you told me a year ago Iâd be mourning an anime character like a real person, I wouldn't have believed you. It makes no sense how you can get this deeply attached to someone made of ink and animation, but his death ruined me in ways I was absolutely not prepared for. Looking at that photo of Earth and seeing his eyes staring back at me just brought all that grief right to the surfaceâitâs like a piece of him is still floating out there in the universe, and Iâm just left down here still missing him.
I swear there is no better feeling than digging through the absolute junk on music streaming apps and actually striking gold, which is exactly how I felt when I stumbled across Matt Franco. Finding his raw, stripped-down acoustic covers felt like discovering this low-key, hidden sanctuary of sound that the mainstream hasn't ruined yet. Honestly, I get such a massive rush from keeping this to myself. Watching everyone else cycle through the same basic, algorithmic radio hits while I secretly gatekeep this insane level of acoustic artistry feels like I'm holding onto the best exclusive secret in the world.
Looking at this right now makes me feel a little sentimental. As you can see, it is broken now. Ate Janeâs workmate went to Vietnam, gave it to her, and she gave it to me. It was the first time I ever owned my own nail cutter from overseas. I have had it since the first semester of my third year, and now that I am about to start the first semester of my fourth and final year, its time is up. I needed it constantly during those years. I had to use it to ensure my nails were never long before any of our clinical instructors could point it out. It was just part of my routine before stepping onto the floor. Now that I am entering my last year and looking at this broken piece of metal, it just feels like a reminder of how much time has passed and how hard I have worked to get here.
I was listening to Noah Kahanâs Orbiter while drafting this, by the way. It fuels my mind with so many thoughts and made me mention names more than one; and besides Mayla, thanks to Noah, really.
So to officially start, Mayla (Jomillah) and I used to be in different circles before for a whole lot of reasons, but here is one of them: I used to be so competitive before during my grade school, and I often had competitions related to mathematics, spelling bees, science, and English of sorts. Also, I remember we joined together on the CDRDMO workshop bound to be done for one week; I learned a lot during the course of it, by the way. But to sum it up, most of the competitions I have had were spelling bees. Now, I really often compete with their school, and ang perception ko oftentimes sa school nila at mga students na nag-aaral sa school na 'yon ay mga spoiled brats and think themselves so highly amongst others.
And Mayla is infamous for being a rich kid no'ng nag-high school na kami. Yes, we shared the same school no'ng JHS ko, and yes, I confirmed she was kinda spoiled as she looks no'ng seventh grader na ako. I am not born in abundance far beyond what Mama and Papa can afford. We are just a simple family full of principles, at hindi pinapairal sa pamilya namin ang vocabulary namin regarding kapritso at mga bagay na hindi naman kinakailangan. Naturally, my stare lingers at her and her friends kapag nagagawi o napapadaan sa classroom namin noon, because they seem to really love announcing their presence in many ways they can. They cannot go unnoticed, I swear. I also find her so pretty and clean before based on how she dressed, on how she posted her pictures online, on how she comments on things posted online, on how she expresses herself mapa-online man 'yan or face-to-face, and on how people would love to gossip about whoâs got her or her friendsâ attention recently. She was that well-known.
At noong eight grader na ako, we happened to be in the same class. Tapos medyo nagkaroon na kami ng interactions. For example, kapag regarding group seatworks or there were times, about the band, LANY. Yep, as a matter of fact, mas nacurious ako about that band when Mayla mentioned them too often before. She used to really, really love them. We shared the same taste in music, somehow. And no'ng ninth-grader na ako, we were on the same section againâa pilot/star section where intellectuals would actually compete blatantly. Mind you, 'di pa uso ang artificial intelligence sa amin noon, at matalino talaga si Mayla; she used to join campus journalism kasi magaling siya magcompose ng essays and such. Of all my sections no'ng high school years, 9th grade was the best among them.
We began to hang out well ni Mayla, within campus parameters only. Mayroon siyang main circle of friends talaga, and so do I; I have my beloved Petra (Gelaica Faith) and Lez (Marlez) (I always miss them nowadays, by the way). Now, no'ng ninth grade ko rin naranasang magrebelde kina Mama at Papa without them knowing a thing about it. It was so fun! Pumunta kami ng Sealord to swim right after we secured our school/student clearance, which was used by our class adviser to certify that we have no pending liabilities, just like unreturned library books, unpaid laboratory fees, or missing school property. It was also those days na talagang nagkaroon ako ng intense crush over one of Maylaâs distant friends and also the best friend of Maylaâs crushâthat soccer player who is infamous for having their brotherhood, Shawn. God, he has a GF already, and forgive me if I ever mentioned his name here. I swear, it was nostalgia that I only felt right now and nothing else anyone might think about beyond that. So haha, back to Mayla.
When we had a particular performance task to be completed in groups for the subject MAPEH, we agreed to do the taping and video recording sa bahay namin because the view is just perfect for our theme. That was fun; I enjoyed it while it lasted. We were so noisy at those times. Grabe, lala! And when we were in 10th grade, malas at nagkaroon ng COVID-19. We had to shift to modular classes in the midst of the semester. Yes, modular, since mostly sa amin noon ay wala namang access to internet and donât possess mobile phones capable of video calls and chats. We did great, kaso 'di ko ramdam ang human connection since that year. Wala na kami masyadong bonding nina Mayla and friends. Dude, it was crazy and boring to think that even our moving up was done online (live on the Facebook page of our school).
Well, I did deliver an introductory and congratulatory speech during that day, while I was already in Manila. Yes, since I really wanted to have a proper and high-quality education, my sister gave me the idea to push through the upcoming senior high years and even college years at the metro, where I can choose and find schools that offer scholarships while also capable of delivering quality education. I was scared to death kasi magta-travel ako on my own for the very first time. Yet, I did it scared, because knowing that Ate Jane had to book a travel agent to communicate with me from time to time and for me to depart safely sa metro gave me additional courage to also act my part at my bestâkasi thatâs what my sister has been always doing. She is one of my pillars of strength. She might not realize it, but she helped me a lot in her ways, even makes my life a little easier when, in fact, it should be tough. Also, it was all thanks to her that I graduated and got a full-fledged merit scholarship in STI College Ortigas-Cainta. Imagine if Ate Jane did not open up the idea of going to the metro? Imagine the opportunity I would have missed!
So, I went home no'ng birthday ata ni Mama. Yeah, âtwas bandang July 2023? Pardon my poor retention of dates. I invited Mayla, Tiptip (Stephanie Gloria), Chong (Andrew), Marlez, and Pitpit to come over so we could bond before I left for Manila again; that was just a short semestral break for me, so I had to savor that break while I still got it. I remember, we went mountain climbing sa harap ng bahay tsaka doon malapit sa bahay ng Tita namin where they built a kubo that was perfect to have a full 360-degree view of Sitio Balabag and to view Mount Canlaon so perfectly during sunsets. We did a little chitchat and siesta sa bahay. Ang gaan talaga sa pakiramdam when you are home, and that includes people that make it cozier than it is supposed to be. I remember, umuwi rin kaagad sila by the afternoon kasi 'di sila pinayagan mag-sleepover, but Lez and Pitpit were otherwise; sa amin sila natulog. I think for 2 days ata na sa bahay sila nag-stay? I really, really miss them.
So, no'ng almost patapos na ako ng senior years, close pa rin kami ni Mayla despite the distance because the internet made it possible. She used to open up at mag-vent sa akin kahit anong oras noon. She had episodes of panic attacksâwell, even no'ng eighth grader pa lang kamiâpero I guess when the pandemic started, the anxiety and depression were well-prevailed, and with that, we often struggle to be vocal of how we feel and talk about depression and mental health openly. The stigma about it is worse than one could imagine. But I remained in touch with Mayla kasi kahit wala man ako physically to comfort her, at least I made it known to her na I am one chat away. She can vent to me anytime and however she wants. Her problems were a bit of everything that goes around boys our age, her other friends backstabbing her or her other friends, much of it is also about school stuff and her parents. All of them were too personal.
At noong nag-college na kami, I second-guessed her career at talagang totohanin na similar kami ng program: BS in Nursing. Well, I cannot shrug off the idea when I knew her mom got her bachelor's degree in health-allied, specifically, midwifery. Up until recently, we still exchange messages, and more of them were encircling about the program we are under now and how hard it has been. Well, I tell you, if nursing is easy, maraming magpu-pursue nito. And when the pandemic started, nagiging overrated and naging in-demand ang program na 'toânot because the shift to online classes has made it easier for us future nurses to graduate sa program na ito, but because future registered nurses are so in-demand across the globe. Na kahit malapit ka nang mamatay, kakailanganin at kakailanganin ka pa rin as one of the healthcare frontliners. It may sound absurd, but I was just stating facts.
I got so engrossed with this blog entry that it got me almost 3 hours to finish, pero it actually just started when I thought about Maylaâs message for me sa IGâno, it was just a post from someone she happened to stumble upon and shared to me. It read: âJust remember when I get ultra mega stupid rich youâre on my spoil list.â
I appreciated that she thought of me still, and I replied exactly, âgoals na to na may, iâd do the same btw. hahahaha.â Because for sure, I would never ever forget her. We may not have gotten closer than close and we may not have enough memories to tell kapag tatanda na kami, pero she is one of the people I can identify that matters to me, and part of me will always find her name familiar and remembered. I love that woman, and I wish nothing but a good life ahead of her.
I downloaded Facebook again today. Itâs been almost two months since I completely wiped it from my phone because, honestly, the feed was just getting too toxic for my peace of mind. But the universe has a funny way of timing things. One of the absolute first things that hit my screen when I started scrolling was an engagement post from a senior schoolmate back in my high school days. And man, it hit me right in the feelings.
They have been so incredibly consistent. Grade 7 palang ako noân when I first found out about them, unconsciously hearing stories through a friend of a friend. Ang tagal na nila. Now, theyâve both finished their studies, earned their degrees, and they are still standing so strong together. In a world where today's standards of romance feel so shallow, fleeting, and transactional, seeing them feels like a breath of fresh air. Itâs hard to figure out if people are even genuine anymore, or if everything is just too good to be true. But looking at them? It just amazes me.
The caption read: âFinally after 10yrs and 8months nga pagkuyogay. No more Sanaol SHE SAID 'YES' đâ€ïžđ„č ilysm Engr. Ellenâ.
Bro, the typographical errors donât even bother me at all. Honestly, let the lovers express their love however they want. Text aesthetics don't matter when the emotion is that heavy. What makes it even closer to home is that the woman in the photo is actually the older sister of my friend, Harold. Kahit na hindi ako kilala ng ate niya, it made me so genuinely happy. Iâm happy for you, ate and kuya. Please hold on to this strong love of yours. Iâm rooting for you both.
I guess, after everything, I still actually believe in true love. Even with all the negative notions floating around about modern dating, men, and their intentions nowadays, moments like this ground you. I just love it when people love other people. It's absolutely, undeniably wholesome.
Just watched that raw clip of Gracie Abrams singing "Good Reason" and had to immediately save it. Honestly, for reasons I can't even say out loud right now, this track is hitting somewhere deep. I will always love her. Thatâs my girl and my absolute favorite nepo baby. I know itâs entirely impossible, but if there's an alternate universe out there where it makes sense, Iâd wife her in a heartbeat.
I was scrolling earlier and stumbled across an Instagram post that basically said: I hate how weâve normalized tearing people down just for existing as themselves. And man, it stuck with me.
We live in this hyper-visible world where everyone has a front-row seat to everyone else's life. But instead of enjoying the show, it feels like half the audience is just waiting to throw tomatoes. If you post a photo thatâs too curated, youâre fake. If itâs too messy, youâre desperate. If you get excited about a niche hobby, youâre cringe. If you talk about your feelings, you're trauma-dumping. It is exhausting. We've all unconsciously agreed on this invisible, changing standard of what a normal person is supposed to look like, and the moment someone steps outside those lines, the internet rushes in to correct them. The worst part is what this does to us internally. When you watch someone get torn apart for just being a little weird, a part of you retreats. It forces you to look inward and start editing yourself, just so you don't become the next target. âMaybe I shouldn't post that. Maybe I shouldn't say that out loud. Maybe I should just blend in.â We end up muting our own colors just so we can blend into the room.
But hereâs the truth I keep coming back to: the people who spend their time policing how others express joy are usually just terrified of their own reflection. Tearing someone down is cheap. Itâs easy. It takes zero courage to sit behind a screen and call someone stupid for being happy. Life is already incredibly heavy. Finding somethingâanythingâthat makes you feel alive, whether it's a style of dress, a way of taking photos, or just speaking your mind, is a victory.
If you're reading this, please stop asking for permission to be you. Protect your peace, post the "cringe" photo, love what you love loudly, and let the critics lose sleep over it. You donât owe anyone a diluted version of yourself.
My competition has never been or ever will be other people. My competition is my procrastination, my ego, the unhealthy food I consume, the knowledge I neglect, any negative behavior or thoughts I nurture, and my lack of creativity. I will continue to conquer and overcome that.
